My all time favorites are The African Queen, On Golden Pond, Thelma and Louise, Green Fried Tomatoes. I have to watch them any time they are run on tv. Also like chick flicks, and just about any others if they aren't too gory and violent. Haven't been to a real movie for years - rent DVDs mostly and now have Video On Demand which is great except you can't pause the movie to take a break..lol.
All kinds of music except rap or heavy opera. Partial to old time country and western and bluegrass. I used to play the guitar and still play an accordion occasionally my mother left to me. I sang bass with the Sweet Adelines for years. I learned to yodel when I was about 4 and my big dream was to be a country western star and sing on the Grand Ole Opry. So much for dreams!
BOOKS
I like biographies, true crime books, historical novels and a good mystery now and then. Favorite authors are
Jody Piccoult
Dana Stabenow, a local Alaska author
Ken Follett
Stephen King
Anne Rule
Rosemary Altea - just to name a few.
I just love color, no matter what the hue. Would have to say red is at the top of the list and shades of purple come in a close second. I get to wear both colors together whenever my Red Hat ladies get together....we make a very colorful group and get lots of attention/comments when we are out and about!
MY FAVORITE FOOD
Love any kind of seafood (except sushi. I don't cook much any more so the microwave gets a lot of use.
I'm a lifelong Alaskan. I have 3 kids (2 boys and a girl), two grandsons and one greatgrandaughter, all here in Alaska. My oldest son has an air taxi business and takes people out to view bears in the summer, then flies for oil companies on the North Slope during the winter. My daughter is developmentally disabled and lives in an assisted living home. I live alone with my two kitties, Honey and Sonny. Worked most of my life as a Secretary and retired 10 years ago. I do some volunteer work at the Visitor's Center at our international airport which is a lot of fun. Try to get to Curves two or three times a week for excercise.
WHAT I LIKE
Nature, sunrises and sunsets, my two kitties Honey and Sonny, a good book, trips to my cabin at the lake, picking blueberries in the fall, watching and feeding the birds at the feeder, spend lots of time on the computer, and my family, of course. Getting together with my Red Hat gals for dinner, etc.
Digital photography, flower gardening, reading, spend a lot of time on my pc, especially since I discovered the Hill. Is tv a hobby?? Have to admit I'm pretty much addicted to it, especially in the winter when it's too cold to do much of anything else.
Hi Jan, I typed this message last night and then it went poof, lost not to be returned, as it was late I put the computer away before I became angry with it. So here I go again. Yes we had a good Christmas thank you, it was a lot quieter than usual as 2 of my sons and there families were not able to make the trip this year. Oh dear, all that shovelling will give you great big muscles, I would love to see one white Christmas, but it will only happen in my dreams now. I do not think I could stand your cold weather, it is cold enough here in the winter. Glad that you are keeping warm and hibernating whilst is it at it's worst. I think I would have no hope of getting Al involved with all the preparations, and I sure would not like to eat what he cooked, believe me he is no cook. I have a friend on here that I asked could I have her husband as he does all the cooking, wouldn't that be lovely? Al has been away for 5 days with his family and I have not cooked a meal or even made a cup of tea, it was heaven, but did have to feed the animals. I was lucky to spend a lot more time with my family whilst he was away, which was fantastic. I think he over did it up there as he was very tired when he arrived home, but had a good time, so that was good. Now I have to get back into harness as he is home again, keep safe & warm, love & hugs Jessie.
I was just out visiting friends on The Hill and thought I'd stop by your place for awhile. It was 29 degrees here this morning in SoCal which is "cold" for us, so your fireplace looks so warm.
