ABOUT ME
I was born at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California to the two most wonderful parents God ever created. My father, Carl Lovejoy was in the Army at the time and would later join a new branch of the military called the United States Air Force. My mother, Betty Jean Lovejoy was his help mate and best friend. She was the heart of the family. My parents met and married two weeks later. They were married for 44 years until Mama died. They were in love each and everyday of those 44 years. They were 16 when they married. My father was a firefighter, paramedic, and in crash & rescue and was known as the best scavenger in the Air Force. We moved 3-4 times a year. Daddy was the head of our house and he and mama made my brother Billy and I the best and loving home anywhere we were. By the time I was 16 I had been to all 50 states and 17 foreign countries.
My father was my hero and the hero of my husband, my children and my grand children. He spent 30 years in the military. Then he worked for Lockheed for 20 years. He retired from Lockheed in 1994. Mama & Daddy and my brother Billy are all together in Heaven now.
I met the love of my life, Buddy Welch, at Nellis AFB Nevada, while teaching dancing with the USO, on June 3, 1964. We were married on Nov 19, 1965. He was 21 and I was 17. We will celebrate our 44th anniversary this year. He was also in the Air Force. He spent 22 years in the Air Force and then we moved to Woodstock GA to be near my parents. Bud worked for GSA Civil Service for another 22 years and retired in Feb 2006. I am proud to say we are more in love each and everyday. I went to high school at Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Then went to college at UNLV in Las Vegas, Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas and Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California and Valdosta Georgia. Wherever my husband was stationed I worked as a nurse. I also worked as a nurse on the medical troop ships during Viet Nam. I also taught Nursing at Valdosta University. I am also a paramedic. I worked toward my doctorate for 3 years. I became an Honorary Doctorate in May 2008 and a Doctor in Medical Research in October 2008.
Bud and I were blessed with 5 children. Twins, Betty Jane and Carla Jean. They were born April 1, 1969 and died April 13, 1969. After their death we were blessed with 3 boys, Milus Wayne Welch II 39, Carl Lovejoy Welch 37, and Stephen Adam Welch 33. We are so proud of them all. They are all good men. We have 3 grandchildren, Carl Lovejoy Welch II 16, Bettie Jean Welch 14, and Stephen Lovejoy Welch 3years old and KALEB AUSTIN LOVEJOY WELCH BORN APRIL 20, 2009. THEY ARE THE LOVES OF MY LIFE.
Today we are retired and love every minute of it. It was scary retiring but Bud and I fell in love all over again. Our marriage is based on Christ is the Head of our household. I was taught from birth to love GOD,
FAMILY, and my COUNTRY.
I was notified that I have been awarded an Honorary doctorate degree in the Humanities from Stanford University. This was awarded to me because during Viet Nam I volunteered my services as a nurse at every base we were at and at the VA hospitals also. When we were in Anchorage Alaska I and several other nurses would meet the medical airvac aircraft with all the wounded from Southeast Asia and we would change bandages, give medications, start IV’s, and all the things that needed to be done for our wounded. Sometimes we just held their hand while they died. They always asked if they were on American soil yet. It seemed to matter to them that they died on United States soil. I also remember that most of them called for their Mother before they died, no matter if they were married or not. That always surprised me. Of course, they called on JESUS. We always prayed with them. So many and so young. I still can not walk up to the Viet Nam Wall in DC. Too many names for a war that wasted so many lives. That is when I learned you don’t have to love the war but you should love the warrior. They were sent by our President. I detest the ones who ran to Canada and other places and the ones who bought their way out, and Jane Fonda for going to the MIA camps and then going on the radio and telling our men they were criminals. I also went to Air Force Communications at night and put throught radio calls. These men would find safe places for the men to meet and would have 5 minutes a month to talk to their families or girlfriends. I would put the call from Viet Nam to the States. I had to get the families on the line and explain to them they could not give bad news to the men over the phone and they could not ask where they were and of course how to talk on a radio phone. The operator in Viet Nam and I had to listen to each call and cut them off if they started to pass information they were not suppose to and if they were attacked by Charlie I cut the families off and told them we lost the connection. The military would notify the families of their deaths. So they put their life on the line just to call home. I loved each and every one of those military men. They told me they were fighting for each other. Our President Johnson knew we could not win that war and he just sent more and more men. To this day the operators have never been regonized for their bravery. Too many have been looked down upon. Their were no parades when they got home or thank yous.
In October I received my Doctor of Science Degree in medical research. I'M now working on research trying to see if we can find antidotes for a chemical attack on the United States and do consultations for Universites who are working on the same thing. I use the labs at the CDC and the bigger hospitals if we should come up with something probable. But most of it is on-line. We are more of a think tank. If you remember September 11,2001 then you know why we are preparing for the worst. Look at the attack on the Japanese trains when sarin gas was released. We are preparing for dirty bombs also.
So my dream came true. I became a doctor and at 60 I am still proud of it.
WHAT I LIKE
A CLEAN HOUSE, MY COMPUTER, READING A GOOD BOOK, HELPING PEOPLE, TRUE FRIENDS, NOT ONES WHO SAY ONE THING TO YOU AND ANOTHER BEHIND YOUR BACK.I LOVE MY GRANDCHILDREN. PEACE AND QUITE AND SPENDING TIME ALONE WITH MY HUSBAND. I LOVE THE GOOD MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH AND ENJOY SHARING STORIES OF MY PARENTS.I LOVE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON AND THE WAY PEOPLE ARE SOMEHOW NICER. BUT MOST OF ALL I LOVE THE LORD MY GOD WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL AND MIGHT. I LOVE ANGELS AND I LOVE THE THOUGHT OF GOING TO HEAVEN WHEN I DIE AND SEEING MY MOM , DADDY, MY BROTHER BILLY, AND MY TWIN GIRLS. I LOVE TO SWIM. I LOVE KIND PEOPLE AND I LOVE A GOOD HUG. I LOVE THE FACT THAT I WAS BORN IN AMERICA. WE MAY HAVE SOME PROBLEMS HERE BUT I LIVED UNDER COMMUNIST RULE AND THE POOREST PEOPLE HERE HAVE MORE THAN MOST ANYONE THERE . NOT ONLY THAT BUT YOU COULD NOT EVEN OWN A BIBLE. WE HID OURS. THEY WERE ABLE TO ENTER OUR HOUSE WHENEVER THEY LIKED AND DON'T EVEN THINK OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH. THAT CAN GET YOU KILLED. I'VE TRAVELED EXTENSIVELY AND THERE IS NO PLACE I WOULD RATHER LIVE. ALTHOUGH ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, AND IRELAND WOULD BE MY SECOND CHOICE.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE
IF IT IS GREEN I WON'T EAT IT. I LOATHE BULLIES. I DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE. I HATE CRUEL PEOPLE ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO MAKE FUN OF FAT PEOPLE, OR KIDS THAT ARE RETARDED, OR HAVING ANY TYPE OF DISABILITY. I DO NOT LIKE PEOPLE WHO THINK THEIR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY.I LOATHE PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY TALK TO GOD AND THEN CALL YOU AND USE GOD TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO. I WILL NOT BE DISRESPECTED BY ANYONE. I HATE TO BE AROUND PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS NEGATIVE. I CAN'T STAND A DRUNK. I ABHOR PEOPLE WHO TALK OR TEXT WHILE DRIVING OR DRINK AND DRIVE. I HATE THE DEVIL.
