Title: On Our Corner of Paradise

Blog Entry: I'm sharing a picture I took of Papa Allen's roses from a recent year because this year has been terrible. With such high, blistering heat he had rose blooms and other flowers but they weren't as nice as in previous years . Everything was kind of a bust this year, except for, his tomatoes. They are thriving when others are not. Papa has kept them well watered as with everything else but the thrived when other things didn't. We have so many that we had a friend come down yesterday to get all the green tomatoes she wanted (she loves them); Allen doesn't. He will be pulling the plants up in a few days. We don't need anymore. I've chopped and frozen all we need for the winter through to next spring. I have just so much room to store anything so I no longer can. Papa Allen has put in a new kitchen door and window. He has to do a bit more work and some "mudding & sanding" and he will be ready to put the trim back up. Just this one window has made things so much quieter. When he gets the rest of the windows in we will no longer hear the trucks going in and out of the grain elevator (across the street) or the trucks from the city shed one block away. That will great! He is sooo tired. He can work for a day or two then has to rest for 3 or 4 days. His back, legs and shoulders hurt him so bad. He still won't go for replacements which is recommended so he suffers. He says he will be laid far too long, which is, very true. He has a lot he wants to do first. We've had beautiful weather here in WC Iowa the last 4 days with a shot of rain now and then. It makes it for much more pleasant visiting on the deck. I hadn't been able to spend much time out there the last 2 summers due to the extreme heat. Hope we can get some more enjoyment outside. Oh, the outside...the gardens look terrible! Even though nothing else will grow and produce properly the weeds always thrive. Because I can't work outside in the heat the gardens have been taken over. And Papa is just one person! He can only do so much. He told me not to worry; when the first frost sets in we'll got out there and get everything cleaned up for spring. Next year shouldn't be quite so bad. We had a lot of running to the City and a lot of business to take care of. Next year will be a little calmer. Oh, the reason for the running is we're remodeling our home and we can't find many things here in our small community so...a trip to the City. And that wears us both out. But we have everything except for the rest of the bath room; will take care of that next year. The kitchen is almost finished! I'd better get out of here for now. Papa is wanting me to share some TV time with him and I also have dinner dishes to do. Have a wonderful evening! Much Love, Junie & Papa Allen
