Blog Entry: Thank You For The Extras Have you ever given thought to the extra things God has created simply for our enjoyment? Let me explain. God could have made the sun to rise and to set without the beautiful splendor in the skies that we are awed by. He could have caused the vegetables and fruit to grow without the pretty colors and flavors that we find so pleasant to the taste and sight. Or can you imagine watching the ocean waves without hearing the sound as they crash upon the beach, or feel the mist as it sprays against your face? Can you imagine watching a bird fly overhead or land in a near by tree and not being able to hear the beauty of its song or the cheerful warbling it makes early in the morning. Have you ever thought about the sounds that the animals make? Like a wolf howling at a full moon as it lights up the night skies? Remember how it feels to have the warm summer breezes blowing through your hair. And listening to the chirping of the crickets late at night as you lay on your bed with the window open? Or think on this. God could have made man without the senses of smell, hearing, taste, touch and sight. And its true that many have lost some of these precious extras that God has given that we might enjoy all of creation. But God gave one extra gift that is the greatest gift of all. It is the one gift that does not require any of our five senses. It is the gift of Spiritual insight. The gift whereby we can know Him and sense His presents though we cannot see, feel, hear, touch or taste Him. It is a gift you cannot and did not earn. You were born with it. And it was given to you so you could enjoy the One who created you. God Himself. Thank You God for the extras. And help me to cultivate the greatest extra of all, the sense of your presents.
