Spots
Posted On 09/04/2011 04:37:26 by Mondayb
I am not sure that this is right for the blog section but at least it's not dismal poetry!!

Some time ago I posted a blog on my experiences of breeding pet rocks. I had lots of comments sent and yes, I did find a good therapist from all the recommendations. And the medication helped.
I am a new person now and all the childish ideas are behind me. I will admit to looking at rockeries with a certain whimsy. But as I said, like the little pig, I have been cured! (I did build a rockery last autumn but I ignored it during the winter and when I checked it in the spring three of the rocks were dead!)
I have now moved on to something much more worthwhile.

Over the last year I have sent a black spot out to anyone who has annoyed me. It's just as well that I had a large stock!

Anyway..........It has occurred to me that instead of buying them I could breed my own.

I have a mating pair but so far there has been no result. They do seem to know what to do.

Does anyone know the sexual habits of black spots? What is the gestation period? How old should they be before they leave their mother? Which one is the mother for that matter?

I have just seen a posting on a previous blog. I feel that I should apologise to any humourless people who believe that these spots are real. They are not. They are just pixels on your screen and can be safely ignored! Or try the delete key! You will come to no harm! Alternatively....GET A SENSE OF HUMOUR!

Does anyone remember the "spot the ball" pictures in the newspapers where the ball has been removed from the picture and all you had to do was find it?

This is my version.......

Spot the dog!

The only thing you have to fear from black spots is

getting one of them on your reputation. They are

elusive creatures with a sense of humor...

often appearing after a knock on the head.

I find them useful in ending a sentence...

I see your at it again..........????? Behave yourself! Gotta admit, i sure did have a good laugh!!!!

To answer your breeding question.....

Grab them by the scruff of their necks...chuck them in a box...slam the lid down...and if you hear screaming and shouting...you have a male and female....the rest is history.....Simples

I have yet to see any kind of black spot that I find admirable. Spots are fine in their place, and in decent colours, of which black isn't one. My profile picture shows me wearing a spotted garment, but the spots are neither black nor reproductive. Oh, imagine if they were...no, I'd rather not imagine it. So far, I haven't been dealt a black spot by Mondayb, and please note Mondayb that this doesn't mean I feel deprived!

Upon receipt of a Mondayb black spot:

To be spot on, in spotting spots, requires a special dedication, which
those who have a spotted past cannot aspire to,even more so if they have
a black spot on their otherwise spotless records. As spots come in many
colours, there are some, at times rancorous debates among the hi-falutin
experts as to the spot that black spots should be placed. Although any
untoward intolerance towards the respective colour of any one spot is
not acceptable, there does appear to be a definite aversion to black
spots. Motor Insurance companies definitely find them an expensive
proposition.

On the other hand beauticians can find them a lucrative source of income
from facial removal of blackspots altho' in the 18th century they were
considered a beauty enhancement which eventually fell out of favour
during the French revolution for some reason that involved people losing
their heads for not eating cake. This period became a blackspot in
French history.which illustrates just what a chequered career the spot
of black has had.

One factor that is definitely in their favour,is the equality of the
sexes.Throughout the evolution of black spots, there have been no
records of sexual inequality, due perhaps in some part to the fact that
there is little or no difference in their size or intelligence, although
this advantage does make it a problem for those without the necessary
expertise to tell them apart, but then, this probably helped to provide
protection from predators, thus their survival to this day to be of such
an indispensable companion to the human race.and some animal and canine
species.

Black spots have both an asexual and a sexual stage.
The sexes are indistinguishable to the naked eye.
Successful breeding requires a warm humid environment.
They will voluntarily leave the nest on their own when mature, borne on a spring wind, and will repeat the breeding cycle when deposited in a new nesting site by a warm rain.
Succesful breeding requires avoidance of fungicides, and any strong alkaline or acidic environment.
Successful breeding has been independantly confirmed in Rose gardens, Berry patches and vegetable gardens.
It has also been confirmed that black spots can occasionally appear in front of the eyes of homo sapiens, usually when there is a sudden change from the prone, or supine position to a standing position, or following an overlong visit to your friendly neighbourhood pub.
