Christmas memories
Posted On 12/24/2011 21:28:12 by Bethanna

I awoke this morning and I was thinking of Christmas long ago. when I was a child and even a young adult. what festive time we all shared. My mom and my aunts and grandmother cooked for days to get everything ready by christmas eve. There were each ones favorite cake or pie, I know mom always cooked a fresh ham because it was my favorite meat. Grandma made the best potato pie in the world. I"ll bet she fixed well over a half dozen thin pie crusts, and layered them ,and stacked them with each filled with sweet potato filling Yum, Yum. Then there were lots of homemade candy too. under that Christmas tree were our gifts. I remember them so well. I remember the pasteboard kaleidoscope with cut glass. never the smae design.and I remember my paper dolls and some times I even got a cut out house for them. and most of all my baby doll. my best gift of all. and I had them all until I married, and our church had a Christmas Bazaar for the Needy and I gave my babies away, not with tears though. How I wish I could go back just one more time , but of course I cannot. My daddy was so funny, he always caught each of us first on Christmas Eve morning and said " Christmas eve gift". ( That, I think was supposed to mean that if you did it first you got a gift.) I thought that just made the start of Christmas. But mama was the spiritual leader in our home and she always first of all each year, reminded us that it was The Birth Of Christ our Lord.

I just wanted to run by to see my sweet friends, and chat a spell this Christmas eve. Thanks to all of you for coming by my place. Thanks for sharing your memories with us, Annie! Sounds like you had a wonderful childhood. My aunt would always say Christmas gift to me, every Christmas day. I never was sure what it meant, thanks for explaining that! lol.
