What Are We Doing This Month?
Posted On 04/08/2020 00:16:12 by yourchoice

I have been enjoying some quiet hours this last while, as we have are adjusting to our self-imposed “quarantine”. Hubby and I are finding our “quiet spots” in an effort to divert our attention from worrisome and sometimes depressing news that tries to invade all of our waking hours. It seems that the more we hear, the more questions we have. Which of the announcements and reported as facts do we believe? Where do we go to find a reliable source of information? Even for those of us who have a spiritual awareness are confronted with many questions within ourselves, and from those around us. What do we do now?

Last Sunday was the final day of Lent, and the places of worship where Palm Sunday would be celebrated were ordered to be closed. Were the services shown on TV, with the pastor, priest or other spiritual leader and the cameramen the only people present in a huge auditorium, authentic and meaningful or just a waste of time? For many, Easter has become more and more a celebration of chocolate bunnies, colored eggs, and family dinners.

Our TV has been one more hours than usual and there are lots of links exchanged between friends on social media, sharing personal stories, cartoons, and unusual photographs. There seemed to be a lack of interest in spiritual expression in recent years, but since our countries have been hit with the pandemic, there are more public statements from a wide variety of “recognizable” and public people, sharing their strong faith in the God of all Creation. They testify to the true meaning of Easter, the gift of God’s Son, Jesus, who became a moral man and gave His life for us, so that we can be forgiven of our sins, and know that we will have everlasting life. Some names are no surprise, like Franklin Graham, Ben Carson, and Mike Huckabee. Others that I’ve watched recently, on YouTube and Twitter, as well as TV, were Denzel Washington, Tyler Perry, Tom Hanks, Mark Wahlberg, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Tim Tebow, Kathie Lee Gifford, Bono, Kirk Cameron, and Justin Bieber. It seems that many people are looking for something beyond themselves to give meaning in their life. The Holy Scriptures are so easily available in our countries, but how many actually read them now? The answers are there for all of us.

I’ll end with an excerpt from a letter that we received last week from a friend who works in China.

“A government official serving in Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus outbreak first struck, was attempted to find protective face masks for himself and his family, but with no success. One of the local house church pastors in Wuhan was walking the streets in his village, praying for opportunities to share the masks that an International Ministry had provided, as well as the Gospel. Every mask given to a pastor in China is another opportunity to share Christ.

The fearless pastor spotted a government official on the street and said, “Sir, I have something important to share with you, as well as this gift.” He handed him a new mask. “I see you don’t have one and walk the streets unprotected.”

The official was dumbfounded. “I tried buying some for my family but couldn’t. I know my boss has many, yet he didn’t give me one! I am at risk every day while I work. How much is this mask?”

“Free! Have you ever heard the Name of Jesus?” asked the pastor.

“No, but it doesn’t sound Chinese. This man Jesus, did he donate the mask?”

The pastor smiled warmly and said, “If you have ten minutes, I can tell you the story of Jesus.”

“No one has dared to come out of their homes except for you. It’s boring to stand on the streets alone, and you seem like a nice guy. Please tell me about Jesus.”

The pastor spent 30 minutes with the government official and brought him to Christ! He is a member of the Communist and cannot tell others he is a believer, but he has joined the Bible studies conducted over the WeChat app. He is listening to sermons whenever he can. The house church in his area continues to follow up with him and is excited to report he is becoming a firm believer and follower of Christ.”

We don’t often hear stories like this in our media.

Fear is a marvelous motivator to mature a person’s

thinking regarding the essentials of life.

Thanks for sharing the links. Suppose to be stormy here and lots of heavy rain Easter thru Monday..will be streaming several services here..and then go back and catch up on more. I tune in to several church's out of state, as well as here locally.

Lisa, I have to admit that this is one of the few times that I get really thankful for TV. The 'cyber world' had a lot of good things, a lot of bad things, and we get to pick what we wish to watch. We received a blanket of snow last evening but much of it has disappeared today. It may repeat tomorrow, and I'm pleased to stay on the warm side of the glass these days. Easter services in our own home will be great too.

Lisa, what a great idea to post in your newspaper. I think that everyone needs to hear "GOOD NEWS", and not focus so much on the 'negative stuff'. There are so many dire predictions, of which we have no real knowledge.
I was sent an email yesterday that ended with a quote; I put it into a simple graphic to make it easier to pass on.

Such a great letter you received, Wow!  In China the pastor was risking his life to speak of Jesus and the man was also by listenting.  Maybe a God Wink in the midst of all of this confusion and dispair?  Perfect timing maybe?  God is always working and is always good.

We will watch our Easter service online.  Our church is on Facebook if anyone wants to join in. We will be observing communion so come join us and have your bread and wine/grape juice, whatever and take part.  Would love to have you.

Thanks Mona for sharing..in the avalanche of flaring headlines on this virus, I penned an article about it yesterday. I will post below my message here. I am so grateful this government worker was saved. What a wonderful thing to read amidst all of the crazy stories and headlines coming at us non stop. I don't even cut on the tv anymore. Easter Sunday will come regardless of what is occurring in our world. It will be a somber day, yet we will remain steadfast in our faith. Those who don't know Jesus..we will keep praying they come to know him. Thanks again for posting this blog -:) below is my article sent in to 2 publishers (newspapers) locally here yesterday. They should print soon. God bless, Lisa

Just Believe....
“You can learn a lot from nature. All that is required is an attitude to look at things from a conscious perspective”.
I pondered this thought recently as I was awakened by the birds singing outside my bedroom window. In times of turmoil, despair, and panic, we can learn a valuable lesson from nature. I have reminded myself this often during the past few weeks. The days have been ominous. Watching and listening to the frenzied headlines has become overwhelming. Our daily routine has been turned upside down.
There are many questions swirling in my head about the current state of affairs we are all witnessing now. Will it ever end? Why is the media trying to scare us to death? What poor soul today will be on the brink of suicide because they just don’t think they can go on like this? With the onslaught of mixed headlines, statistics, and chaos, we are sure to believe that this is a nightmare that will overtake us all. Be still, for I know there is good that always comes from bad. We have seen this time and time again.
I have turned  off the news and put my focus on the joys of the promises of God. We have many things to be thankful for, regardless of what you are feeling now. Sometimes difficult things happen to tap us on the shoulder. How one reacts to this nudge can go one way or the other.
Life happens..it comes at us in full force most days. Please focus on the important things around you. We have so much to be grateful for. Amidst the doom and gloom, I know the days, weeks, and months ahead will, in HIS time, return with complacency.
So while we are all cooped up inside, rather than succumbing to four walls, put on some good walking shoes, or just pull out a comfortable chair..listen to the sounds of nature. Get up, start moving, and enjoy the outside beauty. The array of new beginnings is swirling all around us. Spring reminds us that the dark and drab will always be replaced by new life...and it’s just a few steps away from your front door.
So when I wake up and hear the beautiful sounds of nature,  I will carry that feeling throughout my day. Regardless of the fast and unpredictable world we live in, let’s do our best to slow down and be reminded..”The best is yet to come”.
“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”

Christianity has always been about the message.  Let's make it just as contagious as the virus.  Love the post.  Good job.  God is our supplier.  He will make sure we have all we need to deliver his message.  This Easter we are not going to church to see everyone's new outfit, new hat, or even to get caught up on who did what... We are all hungry for the message that is the Christ truth.  We are rolling away the stone.  This is a very inspirational blog.  Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you so much for your comment; you make a good point about Easter Sunday. No new outfits or fancy hats to show off, just sweat pants and housecoats for those who will be watching from their homes. The message will still be the same. And... don't forget the music... there is lots on YouTube!
