The Grass Is Always Greener
Posted On 06/08/2008 17:24:01 by richmont1234

When I decided to move to Mexico I had to really think about what I was leaving behind in Plano, Texas. Plano is a very close by suburb of Dallas where I worked. My life consisted of mostly going to work in a  high stress manufacturing environment. This was a fast paced live where I longed to get back home and get some rest for the next day. I yearned for weekends when I could do some of the things that I really loved to do. But I have to admit that did not really have a whole lot to look forward to in my everyday live.

As I was running around and do the usual things, a dear friend stopped me and asked me to see a doctor and get a thorough medical exam. I laughed at the idea but still since I treasured her friendship I went ahead and did it. Thinking that I had nothing to fear I was not prepared for the results. I had extremely high blood sugar and high blood pressure! The doctor gave me half a dozen medications and then I felt a lot worse than I had felt before. To tell the truth I felt good before all of this happened.

I did not want to be taking all those medicines for the rest of my life. The doctor said that I had to make some radical changes to avoid this. Like loosing at lot weight, exercising and changing my lifestyle to one with less stress.

Taking his advice I did all of the above. The hardest part was changing my lifestyle because Dallas is not a place for wimps so this was a major change that I had to take. But is seems that the angels wear on my side as I had just met a lady that was to change my life forever! We met on the Internet and it seemed like a match from heaven in the we had so much in common. The only thing is  that she lived in Patzcuaro, Mexico far far away. I visited her town and found it to be a place in the universe where one could get away from everything! It was almost an oasis in time.

In the more than five years since I came here much has changed. The main plaza still is a place of respite in spite of the tourist throngs and more and more foreigners moving into to change that pace of life speeding it up just wee bit more with each coming day. That is why I titled this "the grass is always greener".

Even with the changes I do not plan to look for greener pastures because my love lives here and in our home we can have the solace that maintains our own little piece of heaven.
