Washington State's Protest of Christmas
Posted On 12/07/2008 17:46:01 by Bettejo

Have you heard about the atheist display that has been placed next to the Nativity scene at the state capitol in Olympia, Washington?  This week the news reported that governor Gregoire has allowed atheists to place a sign next to the Nativity scene of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus which states as follows:

“At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”

I don't know about you but this makes me very angry.  I know that everyone has a right to their beliefs but this is an outright attack on mine. This sign could have been placed in another part of the building if the governor felt it was absolutely necessary to be "politically correct".  But to place it next to the Nativity is outrageous and I think it is time for Christians to stand up and take a stand for what we believe.

Just so you know, writing a blog like this is not something that I would normally do.  I'm a quiet person and tend to "not rock the boat" in most situations.  So this may be my first and last blog here on the hill.  I just couldn't let this incident go by without responding.  At this time in our country when we need all the love and peace we can get, I cannot understand people who are so hateful. Well, I've had my say so now I'll just wish you all much love, joy and peace this Christmas season.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

OHHH!  That makes me very angry too. It's as if Christians have no rights anymore. Even here if we write a blog proclaiming our beliefs in God we get jumped on. Thank you for writing this and I hope to see more like it.   CLYDENE

I agree with you.  Thanks for speaking out.

Yesterday the cashier at the drug store apologized for saying "Happy Holidays", explaining that the management would not allow him to say "Merry Christmas".
