To keep in touch, again it’s time
To send our yearly Christmas rhyme.
Hope you and yours are doing well—
We can’t complain or wouldn’t tell.
Why, yes, it's us down Austin way
To send you hugs this holiday
And post best wishes far and near
To loved ones round the hemisphere.
So wish us and these couplets well
On this retrieval of Noël.
Late news makes dark and dreary moods,
And dampens Yuley attitudes—
Please, grant each heart a gladsome tune,
And Christmas bliss, we should assume.
Let pleasant days descend, for cause,
Upon these days of Santa Claus.
We all must join in worldwide choir,
Lift chords for Peace with voices higher.
Come Christmas, friends, lets help St. Nick
To not forget the poor and sick,
To drop requested food and toys—
Some warmth to share these yuletide joys.
Wish work for all, employment matters—
Heating bills, a budget shatters.
If no one minds, we want to toss in
Children's toys all free from toxin.
And back to pristine, all environs;
May fewer people live in irons.
True healthcare! not insurance coverage,
Leaving many sans a bandage.
The bailouts cannot stop the bleed,
They simply seem to pay off greed.
Pray candy canes enough to rain
Around the homes of John McCain,
But lumps of coal from deepest pack
For Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Notwithstanding gloom and crisis,
Cool and thinking once or twice is
What we’ll need till things grow brighter—
(Opinion of this humble writer.)
We wish the Bushie years to end—
Just four weeks more, hold on, dear friend.
C’mon, ’09, bring on the drama:
Welcome, Pres.-elect Obama!
Barack, Michelle and cabinet faces,
Let loose those brains in higher places!
Come smile and wave and bump a fist
With all good people on our list.
We’re gathered round the verdant pine,
Our loved ones and it's time to dine.
Now clink a glass, check out gift tags
In gala gear or party rags!
Now each of you is surely thinking:
This can't be their Christmas inking!
In hopes it helps, we’ve mistletoe
To waft good will to folks we know.
Come New Years, tho' the Dow is down,
By wintry lawn, we’ll dance till dawn.
We’ve reached the end; this year is done!
Let’s trade it for a milder one.
May Spring arrive and things get better.
(Now I have to mail this letter!)
It's Christmas time, for all it’s worth:
Godspeed, good friends, and peace on earth.
