PATRICK SWAYZE, WHAT A MAN!
Posted On 01/10/2009 00:45:35 by VacaGal

Since I've been on bed rest due to the Flu, I've been actually watching TV...  Night before last there was a Barbara Walter's special about "Patrick Swayze ~ The Truth."  I have to say that that man is a MAN.  He has been to Hell and back and is amazing everyone cause the Pancreatic Cancer hasn't got him yet.  Most people only have a couple of months once they are diagnosed, especially when it's in stage 4, but he is going on a year!

My heart goes out to him and his wife.  Patrick is one of the few actors that you don't hear a lot of bad things about.  He and his wife have been married for 34 years. He met his wife when she was 18 and he was 23 at his Mother's Dance Studio.  They fell in LUV right from the start.  They never had children, but they had each other and enjoyed everything together...their horses and also their LUV of dancing.  Patrick talked about having a quiet night together recently and they just danced, I feel so badly for them both. The interview was truly very hard for them both to do, but Patrick talked about the TV series that he worked on "WHILE" doing Chemo.  He said he'd get up at 3 am just to get all the (in his words) internal plumbing working, so he could start his day at 6 am.  The producers could have found a replacement for Patrick, but Patrick said "I CAN DO THIS," so they went with him and believed in him.  He said that this truly gave him faith in mankind again, that even BIG Business would do the right thing.

What makes me really angry is WHY, in this day in age are we not further along with the fight against Cancer.  Being a Cancer survivor myself, I don't see that there are any excuses that we (the USA) can spend so much money on everything and everyone else........why don't we spend that money on trying to cure Cancer and other diseases???  Some people have nothing but money, they could also donate money for these causes.

My heart goes out to Patrick Swayze and his wife.  May God bless you and keep giving you the strength, Patrick.

I agree with Jackie...too much money lost if a cure is found.  My girlfriend has cancer and her first 9 treatments were $32,000 each.. One shot the day after her first treatment was $12,000 ...that was for one shot.

VacaGal,

I too hate it for Patrick, I always remember him in "Dirty Dancing" my all time favorite and now that he is in the hospital with pnemonia I send up my prayers.

As for you statement about cancer, it isn't the cure that we should seek, we should seek the causes, alot that has to do with environmental issues.  The stuff we put into the air, into our soil that goes into the water we drink.  I lost a dear cousin this past June that ate healthy, lived healthy from cancer.  And at that time I found out about the things that went on behind the house I grew up in.  An ammunition depot that in the 80s became a superfund they took millions of yards of contaminated soil out of it and now it is a natural preserve, to figure.  They tested all sorts of stuff and dumped it there.  Agent Orange one of them.  My cousin lost her son who was 36 to cancer a few years ago.  Her husband  has had cancer.  Her father has had cancer.  My mother died of cancer, and numberous neighbors that lived around there...Wells that surrounded river are probably the cause.

I am so glad to hear you are a survivor.  My husband was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Stage 3 in October of 2007 and has been cancer free Since April 2008.  And another contention all the medications we take for these ailments and that...somes of the side affects are worse then the ailment.  Turn of the century you never heard of anyone dying of cancer or such...They died maybe because of a abcessed tooth (my grandfather did) no antibiotics,  or just the natural order of things. This is my opionion all these drugs do we really know how safe they are?

Sorry, to go on, but this blog struck me. Thanks for a thought provoking blog.

I read somewhere that drug companies who make chemo drugs and anti nausea drugs have something to do with that.  Cancer is very expensive to treat and drug companies have more lobbyists in D.C. then any other area. There are 44 lobbyists in D.C. for every Senator and Congressman. Like you I often wonder why we are so good at technology but stink at finding cures.
Money talks....

Patrick is wealthy so I am thinking at least he could afford the best treatment available as opposed to the rest of the population.

I watched that special too.I love him.It is very disgusting the money spent on war and political BS instead of  medical research.

I think that Patrick and Randy Pauch share the same outlook. Even though Randy P died of liver Cancer you may enjoy his outlook on what do I do now.
