The latest Vista update says important.  It's the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 & .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 one.

Do I really I need it as having dial-up with a very slow signal would not be able to download it being so large.

Oh, yes, definitely!  Just to let you know, I downloaded it Saturday and also have dial-up.  It took me five disconnects and reconnects during the download and nearly five hours for the entire process of downloading and installing before I was complete.  Oh, the wonderful world of Microsoft and the hoops they make you jump through.  Too bad they don't have all the bugs worked out before they release their programs.  Good luck while your downloading this mega-monster.

It is about 70 mb, so on a fast cable connection it will only take a few minutes, but on dialup and the slower DSL it can and will take hours, so start the download at night when you are done for the day and it should be good to go by the time you wake up. This is how we used to do all our updates back in the "dialup only" days.

Thanks for the info; I hadn't known about this one. Took 4 min. to download on my ATT DSL & looks like about 15-20 min on 'install'.

I have Vista on my laptop, I checked this morning, after reading this on the home page of NOTH.  It said I needed to download and install this update, I started it, and the whole thing (download and install) took only 20 minutes.  I have DSL, so after doing it I was mighty pleased.  It just didn't take long at all.......grammy210

Thanks everyone,  well I do wake up a lot around 1.30am so looks like I better give it a go.  Am I right,  is it one of those updates that will continue to download each time I log on?   Don't know about the dial-up download speed in the US but where I am,  am lucky to get about 1.54kbps a lot of the time.

This is a tourist place & with a lot of folks on shiftwork the net is always busy but will give it a go now & see how I go.    Smileycons!

Wow,   actually managed to download in 2 goes & just under 6 hours.   Must say had trouble getting some pages while the downloading was happening though.   When I log off shortly will do the re-start.

Congratulations on getting it downloaded.  Now, I never surf the net and do other things on my computer when Microsoft is doing their thing.  I just let LiveUpdate do the download and then click Install for it to finish and restart my computer.  Just don't want to slow things down.  Maybe it wouldn't slow things down, but prefer to do somethings one at a time.
