There's 2 way you could do it....... one is to just d/l a free version of AS to your laptop....  but if you want all the features of AS to work with PSPX2....You need to install psp7 and AS which came with your psp7...... I know from having pspX2 and use it all time....

My harddrive had be replaced few months ago so I decided just put my pspx2 back on and a free AS version... but soon found out that the Export from AS to PSP was greyed out.... Barbara had decided to do same as I and deleted all her older versions of psp... We used the Export so much that we really had find way for it to work as it did with all versions psp on our computers.... I looked at my sons computer who had psp9 and pspX2..his Export was working.... So I readded psp9 and As that came on my disc.... Barbara had psp7 with AS so she added it back....We both had the Export back and everything else from AS worked with PSP... So I really think that's the way I would get AS is from your psp7......

Vi is also so right about what she says about saving as Animation Shop file.... Starting with pspX when Corel took over PSP.... We had start saving as AS file for AS to recognize the files...... I know to be a fact that files do need be saved as Animation Shop files since pspX came out for AS to recognize them... I've used all the versions of psp.......

Try saving same image as psp file and AS file.. open AS and you'll only see the AS file... it doesn't recognize the psp file.... this is for pspX pspX1 and pspX2.....

Also just tell pspX2 to find your plugins folder in my documents and they should all work with vista.... If a plugin was an exe file you probably will have rerun the exe file on the laptop but other plugins should work.....pspX2 probably is already set to see the other folders.... patterns mask gradients selections etc...

i thank everyone for their help in trying to figure the best way for me to do this...i sure hope i haven't caused a problem for folks since there seems to be a couple ways i could go with this...i haven't yet decided which i am going to try. yesterday afternoon we were hit w/bad thunderstorm which knocked out power til wee hrs. of morning, now trying to catch up some things..

another question...if i put version7 on the vista puter i need to download something else for it to work on here also don't i??? if i only put AS from v7 do i also need to download something extra for the vista?

one of my drawbacks to downloads off internet is that i only have dialup so is terribly slow...live in country so no high speed of any sort avail.

continued thanks for any and all help and suggestions.

Now, just to put in my unsolicited 2 cents -

As I said in another topic yesterday, " Having several answers to the same question allows you to choose what's best for you or what works best in certain situations."  There is no right or wrong, so just pick whatever solution works for you.

And as for MY answer to your most recent question about Vista...I have versions 6, 9, AND 10 on my PC running Vista Business (with 1 GB of RAM and 149 GB of hard drive space) and ALL versions run properly.

Oh, well, of course everything looks bad if you remember it!

Vi.

My answer to this is and I know others might not agree..... At one time I had psp9 X X1 and X2 all on my computer so I could help anyone with a certain version.... All worked and had no problems with any them... As each is a separate program.

Corel tried to get away from AnimationShop when they took over from Jasc and came out with PSPX.... but enough of us complained to them.... I talked several times with Corel help on the phone.... So PSP and AS still work together just not same way as before....

After harddrive crash I only added pspX2 and AS but soon found out some things in AS didn't work with PSPX2 so I re added psp9 and AS worked as before..... I never use psp9 but will keep it on so AS works way it should....

I'd continue using PSPX if I were you
