How to share YouTube Videos on "the Hill"

Lots of people love to share videos and that's cool. I do too. Many are confused about "uploading video" from their computers and sharing videos from sites like YouTube.

So this tutorial covers how you can share YouTube videos right on your NotOverTheHill page.

OK. Step One. click "My Account" on the menu bar, then click "Submit Items", then click "Upload Videos"...hang on now, I'll explain this...

YouTube Tutorial

After you click "Upload Videos" you'll see this (look below). Click "Add Video Stream..that's what it's called when you share a video from YouTube -"Streaming" it.

YouTube Tutorial

OK, now, hang on, we're almost done...

Look below, it's self-expanatory...but I'll explain anywhale :)

You must include a title (duh!). Everything needs a name, right? You should choose a category - you don't wnat your Ed Sullivan Topo Geejo video to get stuck in the wrong category where no one could find it do you? 's all right!

Type in a short description if you like - or if you've lots of time on your hands, type a novel, it's up to you. If you're in a hurry you don't have to enter anything here, but entering something here is nice.

If you're streaming a video from YouTube, select "YouTube" from the drop-down menu next to "Stream from"

And finally - the two most important things...

Copy & paste the link from the YouTube video in the form box next to URL, if you don't you'll be really sad because you'll get an error. And then click "Get Video"..if you don't you'll be really sad because nothing will happen..the day will pass you by and night will come and still nothing will happen. So, don't let that happen to you, click "Get Video" OK?

YouTube Video Tutorial

OK, now I expect to see everyone sharing videos. You all see how easy it is!

I'll do a tutorial soon on uploading your own videos from your computer - that works great too!

Don't forget to invite your friends to join our community! Help make your community grow. Invite them to "the Hill" today!

Thanks,

TC

Hey Thundercloud....what happened to the tutorial on how to upload directly from a file on our computer? I tried to upload one that I created from my computer (not from YouTube) and it shows that it's uploading, but it never confirms that it actually uploaded and it does not show up on my page. What's up with that? I posted this question on the Forum page too in case some other Hill members can help me out. Do I have to upload my video to YouTube and then upload it from there to The Hill? HELP!

Hello TC. Please tell me where I can get the relevant URL for a video on Utube?

I followed your tutorial perfectly until it came to the part where you said "Grab the url from the video on Utube" but where ?

Thank you.

Hi!

I'm a newbie here.

I have a question about youtube...

I checked it out, and it seems that they track a whole lot of info.

Is there a problem with that? Makes me a bit uncomfortable...

Thanks for any help.

Youtube is owned by Google and follows the Google Privacy policy with some modifications concerning YouTube.

If having your IP address logged or anything else on their privacy policy bothers you, don't use YouTube.

YouTube's privacy policy basically follows the guidelines set by Google who owns YouTube - with modifications specifically related to YouTube. If you have questions or concerns about your privacy then read the privacy policy of the Web site or service you question. You can read YouTube's privacy policy here.

Personally, I have no problem with YouTube - it runs off a Web server not off your computer. I don't have a problem with Web sites logging my IP address, even though IP addresses are personally identifiable (but only with a court order requested by a law enforcement agency). If you have a problem with any site logging your IP address, you probably won't want to use the Web.

There's a world of difference between a program that runs from a Web server and a program like SmileyCentral, Zango or any number of other Spyware/Adware applications that run off your computer and track every Web site you visit, can collect and send personal information gathered from your own computer to a Web data collection server and tag it with your own personal ID number you were assigned when you downloaded/installed the spyware/adware, and use up your computer's resources running all kinds of bundled software that may or many not be well programmed. Spyware and/or Adware will almost always damage your computer - not to mention expose private information beyond your IP address while using the Internet with spyware/adware installed. YouTube does no use your computer's resources beyond the resources it takes to run your browser and a flash application required to view the video.

Just a reminder that all Web sites, every single one, keeps logs of the IP addresses of visitors. There isn't a single web site that does not.

Thanks....

Thank you so much for the explanation.

I feel a lot more comfortable now.

In fact, I'm going to figure out how to use it, because I already have video I want to share.
