A new favorite--"The Blind Side", a biography of Michael Oher of the Baltimore Ravens ...and what a story it is!.

Gospel, country & classical are at the top of my list. Too, I love the Irish ballads!



Daniel Rodriguez is one of my favorite singers. What a God-given talent he has! He is the NY City singing policeman who became well-known following 9-11. We were fortunate enough to hear him and talk with him in October,'09, when he came to Westminster. He is just as nice as his voice is great!



There is nothing better than a military band!
I also enjoy brass band music, and my husband's playing the cornet/trumpet!

Biographies are now my favorites. After reading some of them, it gave me new insight into the persons and helped me see why he/she believed or acted the way she/he did.
I also love cookbooks and have edited & compiled 6 cookbooks: 4 for the education association, 1 for my church and a recent one for the fire dept auxiliary of the fire dept.of which I am a member. I can read a cookbook just like I would a novel.

I love any shade of blue, for it is so calming & peaceful. I also like green but only when it is with blue.
My home colors are red/white/blue.

This is Boomer, a Labrador Retriever search and rescue dog, who was trained by Michael Rehfeld of Westminster, MD (now of FL), and, among other things, used to search at the Pentagon after 9-11. He is pictured here in front of the Arlington memorial to animals. Just a few months ago Boomer, a 9-11 dog hero, was added to this memorial when he too passed on.





May God bless & protect our military! They are our sons, daughters, parents, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles. We are their family! Say 'thanks' to a military person when you see one, not only on special occasions, but at any time!

I have been married to the same man, Richard, an army brat (and son of a career army officer) who has lived all over the world, for 50 years this year (2012), and he is my very best friend; we have one son who was in the army band for a while, a deaf interpreter for a period, but is now a massage therapist at Four Seasons in Baltimore. (We have one nephew who was also career military but retired in June of 2010 and 2 great-nephews, who are now home from Afghanistan.) I am a Marylander (home of Brooks Robiinson, Michael Phelps & Cal Ripken, Jr.) and have lived in this state all my life (except for a brief period during WW II when my father was at Portsmouth Naval Yard). I have retired three times -- from teaching after 31 years & from being a dr.'s asst. after 10 years. Then I retired again (2/15/10 after 7 1/2 years)from part-time work in retail. I volunteer at a local fire dept.& at my church (as historian & a nursery teacher); I am a head usher with my husband for the community concert series here in our town; we both also do a little work for Shepherd's Staff, a charity that does so much for the needy in our county. We've been sending CARE packages to the military ever since our son was in the army back in 2000. Now the fire dept is helping us send even more packages each week...usually 2-5. There are three organizations to which I belong--Delta Kappa Gamma (an educational society), Beta Sigma Phi (a cultural, service, social organization)and a local homemakers group. I have just resigned from the county tax assessment appeals board.
There are other organizations and some honors but they aren't needed on here. I don't like 'tooting my own horn'.

My hubby was an instrumental music teacher for 30 years. He also was the asst. band director for the Baltimore Colts Marching Band before the Colts left for Indianapolis (and he still holds a grudge at the way they departed). He has just finished serving 3 years as the president of the state retired teachers association. Now he likes to play the cornet at church and in a local group, direct a local band, garden and loaf a lot, although he does still teach private music lessons. He too likes the Ravens and the Orioles, and he has just joined the fire dept. (5/10) so he can help with the fund raising needed to keep a fire dept. in existence.

I love rubber stamping and embossing. It is so relaxing for me. I never thought I could do anything artistic, but doing this craft has brought out a litle creative talent that I never knew was there.
I also love any sport, particularly the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. I was going to be a phys. ed. teacher at one time, & then changed my mind when I wondered if I would be able to run around the field in my 40s & 50s.
Two organizations of which I am a part and that I enjoy are Beta Sigma Phi and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Reading and cooking and politics and the computer I also enjoy.

It upsets me tremendously when people pay no attention to the world around them and never know what is occurring in our world. It is also preposterous for people to absorb as gospel anything & everything the mainstream media tells us. I may not agree with a person's conclusions but I think he/she should be informed & know the facts and not just what the mainstream media says. (They are very biased and campaign for one party and it is very obvious!)
I also do not like housecleaning; in fact, I detest it!!! That is why I continued working for so long, I think.....so I could have someone come in and clean my house

I can spend hours working on rubber stamping and embossing/making my Christmas cards and birthday cards and any others that I need. Then I will wonder where the time went. I love sending cards to boost the spirits of someone!
I also collect snowmen (mainly Irish ones), Santas, milk glass & China cups/saucers. I would like to start collecting Polish pottery, but that would be an expensive hobby unless I had extremely good uses for everything I bought.
