Compulsory Military Training
Posted On 07/29/2010 17:27:11 by kiwibarb
"Bring back Compulsory Military Training" is a frequent plea from those who endured it back in the 1950s, every time they hear of some young thug getting into trouble. Every youth in New Zealand, upon attaining the age of 18, was called up for CMT and only a valid reason would get them excused. Apart from mental or physical handicaps, and chronic illness, the only other way of escaping CMT was by being employed in a job that was vital to the country, including farming, but that only postponed t... Life's Observations
Posted On 07/06/2010 12:12:10 by Margaretmonteleone
I know I am getting older when the things I see as being readily accepted were the taboo of yesterday. Case in point; look at any posting of today’s teen and you will see what looks like gibberish.  It is text language that they are using in everyday speech and blogs, etc.  Some of it is understandable; some is not.  I have also seen sarcastic, snarky (my word) remarks posted and always followed by "jk-just kidding or LOL-laughing out loud).  The F bomb is used quite... Many strange, funny, wacky and improbable things used to happen on the island where we spent so many happy years. I just came across one of them. She approached the desk... Read More

An OLD Prospector
Posted On 05/24/2010 23:02:17 by waybear7
An old prospector shuffled into the town in Texas leading an old tired mule...  The old man headed straight for the only saloon in town, to clear his parched throat.  He walked up to the saloon and tied his old mule to the hitch rail.  As he stood there, brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other... The young gunslinger looked at the old man and laughed, say... Read More

The "Glitter" of GOLD
Posted On 05/22/2010 13:56:13 by WSwan
I am not very political and I don't watch every news cast. Sometimes they talk so far over my head that I can't quite figure out what has them so HOT under the collar, but man, do they like to debate whatever todays issue is.  Now, lately when I have tuned in it seems that a lot of the expert speakers are telling us how much better off our portfolios would be if we have invested in GOLD! Umm, here is my world. I have a enough retirement money each month to meet my bills and add to my saving... Read More
