I see an old man walking slowly down the sidewalk with a small dog on a leash. The old man is hunched and barely able to walk. The small brown and white dog isn't barking. Today was a very hot and humid June day. While watching the children playing in the water I got my notebook out and began making a list of summer activities I wanted to carry out with my kids--build a tent over the clothesline and sleep in it at least one night, make lanterns for the carport out of jelly jars, make and eat homemade popsicles, and the list went on and on....we won't get to do them all but I'll plan something every week to give summer a little spice and make mem... We had a hollyhock plant growing against the house outside our laundry, and it extended to the top of the window. Its pink flowers were abundant on its multi-stalked frame, and it scattered its seeds generously. At the end of summer, I trimmed all the wilted foliage off, and left the main root in the ground for my husband to remove.
