Kids, You gotta love 'em.
Posted On 05/12/2013 15:58:05

Today the whole crew came over to celebrate Mother's Day. When there was a little lull I offered to show them a Jib Jab of me which was featured on the Girls Club. I said it came from the Not Over The Hill club that I belong to and my great-grand-daughter Emily....age 14 said "What's that ? Like a Face Book for old people?"  She's so cute.       photo nursinghome.jpg

Keeping Busy
Posted On 04/26/2013 15:56:24

photo checkin2.jpgLast nite I went to my ggrand-daughter's concert. Right now she's playing the euphonium. This concert had all the schools represented...elementary, middle and high schools. They were splendid. The high school band had a special event that they made up themselves. It consisted of all sizes of drums, Xylophones and cymbals. They called it Raven...a tribute to Edgar Allen Poe. When it first started it scared most of the parents etc. because the speakers were on at the max...this is an all new school and believe me the acoustic system that they have is state of the art. It was well done and I enjoyed it but my tinnitus was at it's worse. A late nite for me. It was after 9 when I got home.  LOL. You must know that by that time of nite I'm usually in my jammies. Today I started painting my clay flower pots. Painting is not my forte but I think they are going to look nice when I'm done. I even got in my walk up the court and up the ave. A not so funny thing happened to me when I was half-way to my destination...I thought I heard a car coming and I saw a car was almost ready to come out a side road onto the ave. when all of a sudden when what I thought was the other car turned out to be an ambulance and of course just before it got to me it put it's siren on to warn the car coming out of the side street. I almost had a heart attack because I wasn't expecting for that to happen.I know I yelled out loud OMG (the words) and had to stop. Well, if I'd had a heart attack I guess they could have stopped, scooped me up, and thrown me in the ambulance with whoever else was in it. Walking is supposed to get Adrenalin going...today it sure did. I hope everyone has a great week-end...we are promised good weather.  Later, Luv, Alice   ♥ ♥ ♥

A Terrible Week

 photo 312222.gif

This has been one of the worst week's I've seen in a long time. From Monday with the bombing at the Boston Marathon, then that horrific fire at the fertilizer place in Texas, then the shooting in Boston by those 2 brothers. At this time one is still missing the other is dead. Just before noontime today my oldest daughter Karen called me to tell me there had been a bank robbery up the street from me right next door to Marshall's where my other daughter works and is where she was when it occurred. I was told by them to stay in today and to lock the doors. I had already done that because who knows where the escaped murderer in Boston could be and we are only 40 miles away. Too much excitement for one elder like myself. I have turned off the tele and worked on the laptop trying to do a fix on my home page. That didn't happen so I think soon I will just do some nice peaceful reading. Maybe by tomorrow all will be resolved. I can only hope.   Later, Luv, Alice

Wednesday Afternoon
Posted On 04/17/2013 12:35:06

My friend Happy Wednesday photo: Happy Wednesday 030408pattywednesday11-1.gif and I (Rosie) had made plans to go out for coffee yesterday morning. She does the driving, so when she showed up I got in her car and asked her if we should really be going. The day before being the bombing in Boston...40 miles away. But in the next breath I told her of course we are. We needed to go and not be intimidated by these insane  miscreants whoever they are. It's been a long, cold winter and I want to get out of the house and have our coffee break like we always do. So, off we to to Panara Bread for our little gossip and complain time just as usual. We both got the biggest cinnamon roll they have and of course some butter to slather on top....I think this is the week I was cutting back...just can't remember ...figured I could skip lunch. Anyway.....half way though our gabfest we noticed 2 soldiers come in and sit in the booth next to ours. There's an Army Base about 20 miles south of us and maybe some of them were heading to Boston. Rose was uncomfortable at first when she saw them and didn't know exactly why they were there....she has to know everything...so, I just said "Well, what better company to be in while having a coffee break?".They were quite young. On the way out I stopped and shook their hands and thanked them for their service. They were so polite and said " Thank you ma'am." I think they were from the South from their accents. So, everything worked out fine and we just went about our "business as usual" good time that we always have.

Nightmare at Boston Marathon
Posted On 04/16/2013 08:18:38

I usually don't have my tv on during the day except to watch my Netflix . Yesterday was no exception ..except that I didn't have it on until it was time to watch Bones at 8 pm. I had talked to no one during the day so did not know what was happening just 40 miles north of me. I could not believe what I was seeing in front of me. The marathon in Boston had turned into a horrorthon. I called my daughter and she also had not known about it until late in the day as she took her grand-daughter for a day trip. Questions were asked between us with no answers. OMG Why?? The Boston Marathon is a big day for people all over the world. People were killed..an innocent child killed and his sister's body maimed, hundreds of onlookers seriously injured as they watched the runners not knowing what was to change in a matter of seconds. We can only hope the ones who did this will be apprehended and justice done. What next? To what end? My heart goes out to those people who suffered yesterday and I imagine life will be different for so many of them. God Bless Them.

Never Give Up

I white lilac tree photo: white tree lilac IMG_4762.jpghave this beautiful very tall...around 15 feet tall....white lilac tree. It started out being a small cutting from a friend's tree which was all of 25 feet tall. Usually they are called lilac bushes but not in this case. You could smell it from all parts of the yard. So, I planted the cutting and it grew over the years with the same effect. Though I love lilacs I cannot cut them and put them in the house. I get terrible headaches if I do. But I have other lilac bushed of the purple family, so I can walk around the yard and smell them. Anyway, during one of the more severe storms that we had this Winter the snow and wind split the white lilac in two places leaving the large limbs still attached to the tree but only barely. On the top part were leaf buds coming  I showed the tree to my daughter and I said maybe I could get someone to cut off the limbs and put them in a large container of water to try to save them. She then reminded me (as she loves all flowers and fauna as I do) that she thought the lilac was one of the bushes (tree in this case) that if you just took and dug a hole and planted them they would root themselves. I then remembered hearing that but at my age some things just slip away. Well, no one was available or just shrugged it off as one of Mom's fantasies. So. last week during one, and I do mean one of the nice Spring days we had, I went out with a small handsaw and took the limbs off the tree. The buds were still there. I went down back with one of the limbs into the wetland area and dug a hole . Not too deep as I am not able to do that but did the best I could. I put a tall 2x2 stick next to it and tied it. I did the same thing with the other limb but in an area near a purple lilac bush and put lots of dirt around both of them. I figured I could get help later on doing the job right. I just went out this morning to check them out and the buds are still on both of them and they are growing. I don't know if they will produce lilacs, but, maybe next year. I just can't give up on such a beautiful thing of nature. So, that's my story and I hope it has a happy ending.

Don't Try To Mess With My Head
Posted On 04/04/2013 16:17:54

photo goodeveningbutterfly.jpgA productive day today. I went to my primary Dr. for the annual checkup and passed with flying colors. He asked me the list of questions that they go through and asked if I had any trouble remembering things and I said "of course I do...I'm 82".He grinned and asked if it ever got out of hand and I just shook my head no. I said even my kids have "senior moments". Then he said he was going to tell me 3  words and would come back to them after a few moments. The words were  "table, apple, penny" which I had learned last year from a neurologist  when I was having the head buzzing thing. So of course when he asked me the 3 words later on and I just spit them out 1, 2, 3. he said, good. So, my daughter who was there said I had them memorized from the previous experience with the neurologist ..he just laughed and said it was a universal test...he thought they were used so it would be easier for Dr.s to remember. So, I said that while I was in rehab after my knee replacement a year ago the words they used there were bed, sock and blue...so he just let me know that that was another group often used. I passed anyway. See you in 6 months he said.

As Time Goes By
Posted On 03/25/2013 13:34:11

This morning as I was getting ready to go to the store for a few items , I was doing a quick brush over of my silver tresses and thought...oh, my, time to call the hairdresser for an appointment. The ends are all frayed and sticking up and just not nice to look at. So, off to the supermarket I went and as I went in a little old lady passed me and went to the vegetable department and tried to get some sort of packaged lettuce from a hight shelf.  At once I noticed her hair and honestly...it looked like it hadn't even been brushed. So, as I often talk to myself I thought "oh brother, is that what my hair is coming to when I get her age?". I went over to where she was standing and told her I'd help her get the lettuce down. I jokingly told her it's usually me looking for help and I always seem to want items on the very top shelves. Of course I was just about her height 4'11" and didn't know why I thought I could get it down. In her hand she had something that was wrapped in plastic and was long and flat...a complete mystery to me... but I told her maybe that would help. It did and down came the package. She nicely thanked me and looked at me with a "look" on her face...."Alice ? " she asked. I kinda frowned and you know that feeling... I must know her but how??" It's me Audrey". OMG ..So this little old lady that I was helping and feeling sorry for was a gal that I went to school with. I apologized for not recognizing her but it had been some time since I last saw her....she and her hubby came to a reunion a couple of years ago.We kept bumping into each other while shopping and got caught up on some things. All I could think of was the initial impression when I first saw her and thought to myself (again) "I'll bet when she gets  back home she'd tell her hubby that she saw me and how old I looked. I'm calling the hair dresser in a minute or two. Wonder if I should get a "blue color job." Maybe it will enhance my appearance. Do they still do that? But then as everyone says age is just a number and all in all I guess I'm doing pretty good if I can still help someone in my age bracket. little old lady photo: sneeky little old lady old.jpg

Changes
Posted On 03/22/2013 15:53:56

tantrum photo: Tantrum ththtantrum5.gif   One of my old sayings that I like is "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Comes in handy for lots of things. Today I have directed it at Photobucket. Did they really think it needed fixing? I have been comfortable with it for quite a long time. I pay a yearly fee to use the sight and now it has me sitting here wondering if I'll ever get the hang of it. Number one it is very slow. I can figure out some of the changes but for instance I cannot find how to delete or move photo's. It used to be so easy...it was available right under the photo..Seriously???. I have pressed all the available buttons and came across bulk deleting and moving but I just want to move 1 or 2...which don't really seem bulky to me. It is a pretty site but that doesn't make it easier to understand. Perhaps it is just me. At my age I don't like to spend a lot of time searching around...Plus I noticed some references to Facebook and Twitter and some other social clubs to get in touch with your friends...I don't belong to those clubs..I just want to enhance my bulletins and comments on NOTH. Well, that's my story and I guess I'm stuck with it. Have a nice week-end and good-luck with Photobucket.    Alice
