June 20 is American Eagle Day, a celebration that commemorates the date in 1782 when the bird was added to the Great Seal of the United States, effectively becoming a national symbol. Franklin was reportedly not a fan. In a letter to his daughter, he wrote: ‘For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly.’
With an olive branch in its right talons and a bundle of 13 arrows in its left (representing the 13 original states in the Union), the eagle is said to represent a strong desire for peace, but readiness for conflict. You’ll likely recognize the Great Seal of the United States from its appearance on passports, flags, official documents, and US currency.
Once common across North America, by the 1950s bald eagle populations had plummeted to an estimated 412 nesting pairs in the United States. Their decline was attributed to several factors, including use of the pesticide DDT, which caused thinning in their eggshells and interfered with reproduction. New regulations, including a ban on DDT, helped the species rebound. In 2007 the bald eagle was officially removed from the list of endangered and threatened species, marking the end of a long recovery. It continues to be protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

I hope all the father's had a great Father's Day. I know my hubby and son and friends had a good one. It is a wonderful day to celebrate all the love the Father's show their families. And a great day to so honor them. At church we really honored them greatly. Of course, we had to have a little fun too. lol lol They loved it. They also got goodies too. They liked that.
My Mother's Day corsage was still beautiful so I wore it yesterday. That was really neat. I learned the secret of keeping them fresh. I left mine in the plastic contain it comes in and put it in a plastic bag and tied it and placed it in the fridge and it really kept it fresh. Also a large plastic containter works well too. You just have to watch the condensation.
Have a wonderful night. God Bless you. May the Angels of the Lord keep you safe. hugs, Shirley
Hello my friend & hope you survived the strong storms the other night. We had some high winds that caused a little damage but nothing severe & only a little rain but the winds were up to 60mph for awhile . Getting ready for some more heat starting today so it's time for river or lake swims. Enjoy the happy hump day & rest of week...........George
Hope your enjoying your Sunday....Fathers day....Hugs Lorri
Just peddling around the Hill to say a quick hello. Was pouring rain when I woke up today but sun is trying to shine. We are to have rain and storms every day this week. Governor has asked for US aid for Ohio farmers. Feel so bad for them, yet I'm thankful we haven't had the devastating floods they've had out west. Enjoy your Sunday! Blessings, Nancy
