By now, most of you really know me. I am so very BLESSED and I love sharing SMILES. So I have a story for you. Yesterday, we went to Valvoline to get the car inspected because we enjoy being able to stay in the car while they do it and /or while they change the oil. Well, after 40 minutes of waiting, we pulled in and they said their computer or machine for inspections was down.
We didn't get flustered as we really have more time than we do money! We just smiled and told them not to worry, we have until the end of the month. So we called a local, very trustworthy place we used to use a lot and they could do the inspection in about 20 minutes. It takes almost that long to get halfway through Rockwall especially with the traffic. We went inside to sit when they took our car. We began talking to a young man who came in behind us about his Dodge SRT. We love fast cars!!! Hubby asked if it was around 800 horsepower (most cars are 200-250, Kelly's vet is around 600) and he said no... it is 1000 horsepower !!! So we teased him about the cost of gas to drive it now. He told us that the best thing he ever did was to buy his mom a house in Fate. Then he looked at me and told us that he had recently given his life to Christ. What a blessed conversation we had with him. His name is Rashard Higgins and he was a Wide Receiver for the Cleveland Browns for about 5 years and now he is with the Carolina Panthers. As I was writing a "Be Uniquely You" note card to mail to him, I looked down at my Christian T-Shirt (I have about 30 to choose from that I wear daily), I realized why he shared his love for God. What a blessing it is to share a smile, start up a conversation, and send a card to others and also of the blessing I received in return. Now I know why God delayed our inspection 40 minutes and had us go to a different location!
It feels like summer has been here since late May and here it is the first day! A few years ago in 2011 we had 71 days of 100° weather in the DFW area. But in 1980 they had 42 consecutive 100° days. I hope we don't break either of those records. I am getting too old for this stuff.
I am thinking about, and trying to motivate myself to run errands. I need my car inspected and registration sticker before the month is done. And of course, it is Taco Salad Tuesday for us at Rosa's. Besides, I really need to get out and share a smile with others. Hope you will do the same.
Even though it is a Federal Holiday, it is the start of another week and for us ten days of over 100° with as high as 105°coming our way.
I finally got nails put on as I guess I was letting them rest! I decided on my favorite color as I will change them again before the 4th of July.
We ate BBQ with the kids and lots of wonderful cold salads, (pea salad, spiral pasta salad, potato salad) and spent time with the girls. Michelle showed me her garden, SunFlower, cucumber, watermelon, lettuce, and spinach... and her growing chickens too.
Then last night, when I went out to check out the sunset to take a picture, I spotted our Jack Rabbit. I got four videos over 30 seconds of each of him in our carport area. I hope your Father's Day Sunday was a blessed one too! Enjoy this last day of Spring.
I know those of you on the East and the West coasts have a reprieve from this heat, but at 10:30 am we are nearing a "feel like" of 100°. I made it outside to water plants and looked just like the picture above by the time I was finished.
So now that I have cooled a bit under the ceiling fan in the computer room and combed my hair. I thought I would check and see how you are doing this Friday.
I hope you and your friends are gathering for the long weekend and have a plan to stay cool and to have a fun party time in the old town. We are excited after 3 days with no softball (it is over) or baseball, there are 2 college baseball games today and tomorrow. So I will check on you later!
Hope you're keeping cool and doing better each day, George. Our heat index yesterday in the southeast was 115º, and it's only mid June. Stay comfy as you can, my friend. *hugs*
The front and back plants have already been watered today. I am craving BACON so I "might" fry up a pound. Doesn't Bacon and Egg Sandwich sound good?
Then I hope to read the new book I started this week. If I read at night I get sleepy. Besides, I love Hallmark and UPtv Christian and "feel good" movies.
I have errands to run today. The College World Series starts Friday. So I will catch up on movies on UPtv or Hallmark or read Christian books on Kindle. But for now, I am off and running.
Don't forget to share your smile with everyone you encounter. We have a reprieve from 100's until next Monday, unless they change the forecast, but that is something to smile about.
Short night, 4 hours sleep. The Longhorns baseball game was supposed to start at 3 pm but with rain delay in NC, it didn't start until 9:15 pm. However, we are heading on to Omaha so it was worth the very late night. Then dogs were barking at a snake way before daylight and later two of them each caught a mouse, one of which brought the still barely alive one in the house. It is nap time in our house! SO, HOW IS YOUR MONDAY GOING?
Does anyone have a telephone number for Sparks505, or know if Lee is OK? She hasn't answered my email and I am still worried about her. Thanks!
Next question, do you ever see Monarch Butterflies? Do you have any Milkweed plants? They look like this...
When Monarchs feed on milkweed, the caterpillars ingest toxins in the plant that make them poisonous to predators until they become adult butterflies. The plant will have pods on it that contain seeds.
This is what the pod looks like when it opens and the seeds fly away, all over the place. I have at least three envelopes full of seeds and many more pods to open soon. Let me know if you would like seeds. My neighbor, a teacher, always captures the caterpillars and watches them turn into a butterfly. This year we were both out of Milkweed because of the bad freeze a year ago in February. We both bought plants. I also bought 4 colors of seeds which I shared with others already not knowing how many seeds my plant would produce. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this lesson as I did not realize Monarchs covered such a large area.
Have you ever seen a two headed giraffe? Ok, maybe it is the angle but it is really neat looking! I have one more for you... Have you ever seen a giraffe umbrella?
Well, now you have seen both! I am so blessed! My friend since 3rd grade, of about 65 years, sent that to me in the mail. Isn't it cute!!! And I love the feet on it too. Earlier in the week, a friend of about 45 years sent us 3 different flavors of Pretzels. Then yesterday I got two beautiful but different Patriotic scarves I can wear to work from a Hillian friend of about 10 years. I am truly BLESSED!
This morning was cloudy, cool, and spitting rain for just over an hour. So we got the yard mowed. Of course, it is 96° with a "feel like" of 106° or 1006° right now as we still have several hours to reach our high for the day. We even got our errands run, bought dog food, got Hubby's passport picture, and got his glasses ordered from Costco as well as bought everything and then some at Costco that was on our list. We are ready for the weekend! How about you?
The weekend is almost over but the sunshine is not. So we just have to sing the song and enjoy every day. Do you have a favorite pair of sunglasses?
Of course my favorite ones are orange. I have so many pairs to choose from and I rarely wear them at all. I got a few chores done today like hummingbird feeders refilled, indoor plants watered, a new block of bird seed put out (probably for the squirrel), and I always have several plants outside that are wilted.
Now as it is getting near sunset I am sure I will go out and take some pictures as I wonder what the rest of the world has done today. I love both sunrise and sunset! Which is your favorite and why?
The Arlington/Mansfield area had around 5" rain yesterday afternoon where we had 1/10". Get ready, we are due upper 90's for the next week starting tomorrow. The "feel like" temperature will be over 100.
Goodbye to cooler temperatures and cloudy days for a while. Ready or not, here comes summer and what perfect timing with school out. I must admit, I am NOT ready for the electric bill next month.
It is almost time for Longhorn softball and then Longhorn baseball. So I had better get lunch served.
