MUSIC
Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.~B.Auerbach
I'm not tied to any one genre; I like what touches my soul.
~If you enjoy poetry you might want to shut down the playlist music and head up to my posted music. There are three favorite poems/excerpts of mine listed there under Various.
BOOKS
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.~C.W.Eliot
Like my tastes in music, my reading tastes span the fields. I like SciFi, Fantasy, History, Science, Mystery, Poetry...and on and on and on...
~Although I still have many books--fiction and nonfiction--on the shelves to read I'm not currently reading any particular book. I have several magazines that I've saved for years to go through and weed out and I really do need to get that done before I lose myself in another book.
~However, I did receive three new Brian Froud books for Christmas so I have some new fairy and goblin books to read. I do enjoy his artwork, and his books have been really enjoyable (and fun!) to read.
MY FAVORITE COLOR
I like vibrant colors. Greens and reds are favorites.
Hmmm...so many good foods
-cup of hot tea with lemon
-chocolate -really good salads with a bit of everything
-chocolate --a well-done steak w/sauteed mushrooms & onions, and baked potato
-Chocolate -Mexican(and it's green for me)
-Chocolate -Pie(chocolate, apple, pumpkin)
-Chocolate -strawberries & bananas w/a bit of whipped cream
-Did I mention CHOCOLATE?
I think your whole life shows in your face and you should be proud of that.
~Lauren Bacall
Around My Place:
You know, my husband and I talked New Year's Eve about how we were looking forward to a nice quiet year-at least health-wise. The last two years have been a bit hectic with medical situations with my family and myself. Well, not to be...in fact, we didn't even make it a week into the New Year!
My husband had an appt. set up for the fifth at the VA to check on his finger which keeps locking up. Now, starting the 23rd of December he began experiencing a bit of an ache in his upper chest on occasion. It wouldn't last long and he didn't think it was his heart. He wouldn't go in any sooner than the fifth. When he did go in Monday and mentioned the pains--which he had more while waiting to go in that morning--wow, did they go into high-gear!
The nurse shoved an aspirin down him and then they had drs. coming down from cardiology to see him! Anyway, they ended up running tests Monday--no heartattack, cholesterol was high so they started him on meds that day for that--and then had him come back Tuesday for a stress test and imaging. All the tests looked fine until they got to the imaging after the peak of the stress test. There does seem to be a restriction of blood/oxygen flow at that point. Options are meds or angiogram to check it out with the possibility of a stent. After we talked and he did some research he decided to go with the meds. first. He'll be meeting with the dr. later today to set up what he'll be taking.
Stressful few days...for me at least. Hubby's concerned, of course, but more irritated that this type of thing has started so early (he's 54). He does tend to take things in stride, though, and is more worried about how many people are worried about him.
In the Skies:
~Orion rises early in the evening and is high in the sky by 10pm.
~Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury can be seen in the West in the evenings. Jupiter and Mercury are quite low in the sky, though, and sink below the horizon soon after sunset.
~Saturn rises in the East around midnight and can be seen high in the Southeast before dawn.

ABOUT ME
"A Continuing Journey"
According to my mother I've an 'old soul'. That is something with which I have always been comfortable; it just feels right. Happily, this 'old soul' continues to
make its journey with a 'young heart', and that makes for quite a trip no matter what turns, bumps, or potholes might be along the way.
Let's see...what else...
I was born and raised in New Mexico and, except for a few years in West Texas, have spent my life here. I have lived in six different communities in The Land of Enchantment and enjoyed them all. These have been small towns or rural communities as I am definitely not a city girl.
I taught Special Education for several years. Since I also did homebound work I had students that ranged in age from five years to twenty-one years. While I had classes that included those with a variety of needs, my greatest enjoyment was working with the severely emotionally disturbed/behavior-disordered.
I've been very happily married for sixteen years now, and have three children: a 25 yr.old son from my husband's first marriage who lives in Arizona, and two boys of the canine variety, Bud and Bear. Both dogs are Lab mixes and have the same mother, just a year apart. Bud's 14yrs. old and Bear's 15yrs. We've lost three other dogs during our marriage-Lady, Polly, and Pepper. It's hard knowing that we may not have the boys too much longer. They are such a part of us.
My better half is retired from the Air Force(after 20yrs. in). Unfortunately, I missed out on all the great travel as we met just a few years before he retired. I have, on occasion, sat and drooled over the photos of all the great places he was able to go. He is now an on-call technician, and really enjoys his wood shop.
Oh, we're both smoke-free for five years now!
I currently enjoy spending time with my husband, taking care of my family and home, having fun dabbling in a variety of hobbies, and exploring my spirituality.
I do consider myself to be more of a spiritual person rather than a religious person. I believe God is very much a part of my life and who I am. I had a Baptist upbringing, and credit my grandparents for being wonderful Christian role models.

MESSENGER
----Mercury is the inner solar system planet I find the most intriguing so this is a site I visit regularly to keep up with NASA's MESSENGER mission to Mercury.
On a Personal Note:
Why the Teapot Smiley as my profile image? Well, you see...
I have always enjoyed looking at the nightsky and the stars, but other than the very basics I didn't know a great deal about what I was seeing. I finally decided I wanted to know more.
I first learned about the Sagittarius Teapot back around the time my husband and I first began taking an astronomy course online through Barnes & Noble about eight years ago. I think I had been checking out Sky and Telescope's sky information, and read about an asteroid that could be seen in that area (yes, a bit ambitious for a really new beginner, but what the heck...). The article talked about the asteroid's location in the Teapot???? Well, after studying the 'formation' and location of the Teapot I went out to hunt for an asteroid. Got outside, and lo and behold, there was a TEAPOT!! And, it appeared as though the Milky Way was steam rising from its spout! Now, I was really excited about that. I had just learned something new, and I knew then that I would always be able to locate Sagittarius. I never did find the asteroid. The more I learned about the Teapot, the more I became enthralled with all the goodies around it. It's literally a celestial smorgasbord over there! It has so many wonderful clusters and nebulas...quite exciting.
I love looking toward Sagittarius and seeing that Teapot, the spoon, and the lemon wedge. It just thrills me! And, I suppose it has become a bit comforting to gaze at, too. It is something I truly know. I guess I've become a bit hooked on it, to say the least!
My fascination has now carried over into tangible teapots, too. Some examples: I have my grandmother's first teapot when she began a collection. I have a few pieces of teapot jewelry (gifts from a couple of astro friends), a wonderful miniature teapot with Starry Night on it from my husband, and a wonderful teapot hook/holder that goes on the wall! It is now holding my apron in the kitchen.
Now, back before Cloudeight put out the first FunPak smileycons, I wrote them and asked if they would consider making a Teapot Smiley; I explained my fascination with it. The very next pack out was the FunPak with that wonderful Teapot Smiley! Of course, I can't say my request had anything to do with it, but I loved the timing! Since then, I've used the Teapot on my astronomy forums.
And, there ya have it...Rebecca's extreme Teapot fetish!
