I have a question! Has Spring arrived at your location? OK, we live in different areas, some even in the southern hemisphere, so you can tell me what season you are enjoying. The one thing that we do have in common is the world-wide pandemic. Perhaps I should ask if the pandemic has arrived in your neighborhood. Do you have a family member, a neighbor, a co-worker who has been diagnosed with coronavirus? If you have been separated from your family or living alone, how are you spending your day? Are you content, thankful, bored, or lonesome? Has your home ever been as clean as it is this month?

As of this week, my husband has not left our property, has not been in a vehicle, and spends hours every day in his shop. I have dropped by several times, and he tells me that he is cleaning, repairing, building and organizing his ‘stuff’, and probably even having an occasional nap. There is music playing in the background, and he tells me that he is content. After his health challenges last summer, his heart and mind is filled with thankful thoughts.

As for me, I have made two trips to the mailbox (a 3-mile round trip), and one trip to our town to pick up my husband’s next month’s supply of prescription drugs. I experienced ‘curb-side’ service from the pharmacy, and I toured town to see what was happening. I didn’t need to buy gas for my vehicle, there was no point in getting a car wash because we were expecting more snow, and I didn’t need any toilet paper. I didn’t even stop to have a coffee at Tim Horton’s. Our deepfreeze and pantry are well stocked, thanks to our son’s bi-weekly shopping trips. It is probably the only time I have made a round-trip to town without getting out of my vehicle.

When I’m home I do a bit of cooking, a bit of cleaning, a bit of organizing and re-organizing cupboards and storage space… and I talk on the phone, write long emails, short text messages, and find any other excuse to stay on my computer. I have been a computer ‘nerd’ for many years… why change now??!!

I was reminded by another ‘blogger’ that words are powerful. It was a great reminder that if our physical condition prevents us from being an active volunteer, if our location in not main stream, and if our family is far away, we still can use words to encourage, to give comfort, to reconnect with friends and neighbors, and to worship with thankful hearts.

We are not alone!

Thanks so much for your comments. It seems that we are doing the best that we can, where we can.

Even some news reports are suggesting that as bad as it seems, there are good things that are also happening ... learning to live all day with children, contacting friends and family, near and far. with words and photos.

I'm so glad to be seeing some positive "news flashes" instead of reports that create fear, depression, and even anger. One day at a time... do what we can, where we can!!!!

Well we did get some Spring weather for a few days but this week, no. Snow on the ground this morning. More expected tomorrow. It's kind of unusual. In April we may see some flurries and not much else. This week it's cold. It was 28F this morning. Brrrr
The only places I've gone is to the grocery store and to the post office to drop off a letter or bill. Both are very close and is probably a 5 to 10 minute round trip. I miss seeing my daughter and grand kids but we do talk to each so it's not totally out of touch. This virus has changed all our lives. We are all in this together. We will make it through this.

Our weather can't make up its mind either. We woke up to a white blanket of snow, and by 5 p.m. our hills were all brown again. I'm looking for some green grass! This is the time for us all to be thankful for the technology that we have... we may not be able to be with those we wish, but the telephone and internet are working!

Spring has arrived here, although tonite we expect a frost, as we came close to this morning as well. Last weekend brought our second storm (with tornadic winds) ..we have, in many years past, seen snow in April. The seasons now here are blended. Looking forward to getting back to some normalcy. I only go out for necesssry errands. The grocery stores have surely made high profits during this time, but once food establishments open up, no doubt, they'll be so busy, I suspect the grocery stores will slow down. We have gotten take out food a few times. Lots of places here have great deals. As far as the virus, I have many questions on its actual velocity. Here in many counties, the numbers have been very misleading. Have a friend who is an analyst (his job), and he has really been opening up my eyes on how this pandemic has been quite the mystery dealing with ratios and accountability. So many areas in many states and countries were not even affected, yet on any given news segment, one would want to run for the Hills believing the end of time was near. But in the end, our community has come together and worked diligently with other entities in bringing much relief to those in need of food. Tomorrow morning just a few blocks from my home, downtown Belmont will be having a huge food drive. Over 3500 pounds of food and other needed items will be given away. Several local entities came together to make this happen...one of which is a local church. As my most recent letter (to editor of our paper here) addressed this topic. We just need to believe and trust in God that we always come back stronger after any setback in life. We have done it many times before, and no doubt, will have to again. Listening to the birds the last ew weeks, their singing has been more louder and clearer...which edged me on writing this article. We can all learn something from nature.. I will share the article below. So enjoyed this blog Mona -:)

*********************************************************************

Just believe better days are ahead,

“You can learn a lot from nature. All that is required is an attitude to look at things from a conscious perspective”.

I pondered this thought recently as I was awakened by the birds singing outside my bedroom window. In times of turmoil, despair, and panic, we can learn a valuable lesson from nature. I have reminded myself this often during the past few weeks. The days have been ominous. Watching and listening to the frenzied headlines has become overwhelming. Our daily routine has been turned upside down.

There are many questions swirling in my head about the current state of affairs we are all witnessing now. Will it ever end? Why is the media trying to scare us to death? What poor soul today will be on the brink of suicide because they just don’t think they can go on like this? With the onslaught of mixed headlines, statistics, and chaos, we are sure to believe that this is a nightmare that will overtake us all. Be still, for I know there is good that always comes from bad. We have seen this time and time again.

I have turned  off the news and put my focus on the joys of the promises of God. We have many things to be thankful for, regardless of what you are feeling now. Sometimes difficult things happen to tap us on the shoulder. How one reacts to this nudge can go one way or the other.

Life happens..it comes at us in full force most days. Please focus on the important things around you. We have so much to be grateful for. Amidst the doom and gloom, I know the days, weeks, and months ahead will, in HIS time, return with complacency.

So while we are all cooped up inside, rather than succumbing to four walls, put on some good walking shoes, or just pull out a comfortable chair..listen to the sounds of nature. Get up, start moving, and enjoy the outside beauty. The array of new beginnings is swirling all around us. Spring reminds us that the dark and drab will always be replaced by new life...and it’s just a few steps away from your front door.

So when I wake up and hear the beautiful sounds of nature,  I will carry that feeling throughout my day. Regardless of the fast and unpredictable world we live in, let’s do our best to slow down and be reminded..”The best is yet to come”.

“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”

Thank you so much for this warm update about your activities.  I am so happy you and your husband are virus free.  My prayers go out to those who it has effected.  I am also glad they are finally give us the number of survivers which is much larger than the number of deaths.  We will all make it to the other side of this.  We are crossing the river of indifference and learning how wonderfully made we all are.  Stories of courage, kindness, self sacrifice, and generousity are on the news now.  Our world has forever changed.  Thank you for sharing and for connecting with us on this site.
