A Word From the Happy Winner
Posted On 05/01/2008 10:57:56
We probably all have a certain ritual at to our morning computer and internet visit, I know I do.  I tend to start out with all my emails, of which there are several...Outlook Express, Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail.  Next I quickly scan the internet news headlines, though for the most part this activity is very bried.  Then I usually go over and check out my Facebook page, see what's new with folks, mostly family there and a few other friends.  This past month I've gotten into the habit of saving the best for last...NOTH.   It's like the dessert of my web browsing.  Plus I have to save it for last because once I get over there I know I'll get entranced and sidetracked and nothing else will get done for a big chunk of time.

But this morning was different, the suspense was too much, I just had to know how the contest came out before anything else this!  If I won, how would I thank EB and TC sufficiently??  Then there was my fiece competition, wandaelaine, who kept me on my toes the whole way.  I was actually secretly hoping she would have tied with me so we could share the prize.  After all, I, of all people, realize how hard she worked at staying on top (at least I think I know, if her experiences were anything like mine).

I have been asked how I got so many referrals.  Well, folks, I can tell you it wasn't always real easy.  Of the invitations I sent out (some repeatedly with different angles on the plea), less than half actually did take me up on it.  Hard to believe how many folks are afraid of joining anything on the internet, especially anything that sounded similar to MySpace or Facebook, even in spite of my assurances that there would be no generation of spam, that they could be as private or as open as they chose, and how many friendly people they'd meet.

The way I look at it, this is a win win win situation, something for all...
  • OK, me mostly, the prizes, of which the CD was the most important to me, the easy to build page, and all these great new friends from near and far.  I think I cannot name all the ways I won.
  • My friends and family who share in the bounty just by becoming members, some in spite of and even because they tired of hearing me rant, whine, wheedle and cajol them, stopping  just short of out and out bribery.  With my kids, I didn't take lame excuses such as "I'm too busy".  They'd join, or else.  My attitude was "try it, you might like it", figuring that if and once they just gave NOTH a chance they'd find out for themselves what there was to love about it.  And I was right on with that on some of them.
  • EB, TC, and NotOverTheHill village, for getting more members to their highly successful fledgling web community.
I'm not much of a salesman, but if I'm passionate about something I'm like a dog on a bone. At least with this I didn't have to feel guilty about taking money out of anyone's pocket, money they would need for gas for getting to work or food to feed their hungry families.   Rather this was something that was not only free, but at the same time good for them.

Bottom line, I just want to thank everyone involved in this race...friends and family who joined as my referrals, wandaelaine for goading me on, and of course Eightball and Thundercloud for providing the opportunity and prizes!  I'm ecstatic!!
