I love taking pictures. I guess it started when I was a child, even though I didn’t actually do it until much later.
My first camera was a Brownie box. My grandma gave it to me. I was very young & don’t remember if I ever actually took any picures with it. I probably just ‘pretended’ to take pictures.
The first real camera I remember was given to me by my dad. It was a ‘slide action’ camera. I remember it was foreign--maybe Minolta--but that’s about all I remember. Yes, I took some pictures with it--but I don’t think they were ever developed! I might have been pre-teen at the time. And I didn’t have money for developing!
By the mid 1960’s, I had a Polaroid and an Instamatic--both of which I used frequently! My first photo album was started when I got married in 1966, but I had pictures saved from earlier that year. The first pictures I remember saving, right now, were taken of my family, including my graduation pictures. Later, I took Polaroid pictures of our son when he was a baby. From then on, I took a lot of pictures!
Then, the last pictures were taken with digital cameras; I printed them out and added them to my last album. I ended up with 7 albums. Later, I just ‘saved’ the digital pictures to my computer and didn’t bother printing them out. Actually, those are on 2 external hard drives for safety.
Last year, I decided it was time to ‘downsize’. I started with my first album. I scanned the photos & put them in my Family digital album. I did save a few special pictures, but that album is now gone.
I then started on the second physical album–which is huge! It covers 1973-1990. But I’ve gotten sidetracked with other projects. I’m not sure I’ll even get back to that! It’s such a huge job. But we’ll see.
