June 20 is American Eagle Day, a celebration that commemorates the date in 1782 when the bird was added to the Great Seal of the United States, effectively becoming a national symbol. Franklin was reportedly not a fan. In a letter to his daughter, he wrote: ‘For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly.’
With an olive branch in its right talons and a bundle of 13 arrows in its left (representing the 13 original states in the Union), the eagle is said to represent a strong desire for peace, but readiness for conflict. You’ll likely recognize the Great Seal of the United States from its appearance on passports, flags, official documents, and US currency.
Once common across North America, by the 1950s bald eagle populations had plummeted to an estimated 412 nesting pairs in the United States. Their decline was attributed to several factors, including use of the pesticide DDT, which caused thinning in their eggshells and interfered with reproduction. New regulations, including a ban on DDT, helped the species rebound. In 2007 the bald eagle was officially removed from the list of endangered and threatened species, marking the end of a long recovery. It continues to be protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

I have been enjoying the out of doors for most of the day and I truly do need another cup of coffee. Flowers are blooming more and more all over the yard plus the rose bushes. What a breathtaking site to see. I so do enjoy all the four seasons and all of its beauty.
I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this nasty disease again. The treatments are so different now to what they were when I had my chemo and radiation. Remember, cancer isn't a death sentence; also, it can't destroy who you really are on the inside. Keep fighting!
Sue
Well, I will try again. First message got lost somewhere! Congrats Survivor! We have something in common. I was a survivor for 19 years and a year ago Dec. it raised its ugly head again. I knew it would as I had it in quite a few lymph nodes. So even though I have stage four metastatic breast cancer, I feel great!!!! Dr. said it's just a matter of learning to live with. So just take meds once a day, a shot once a month, and body scans every six months. So far, so good. Keep up the good fight! Hugs, Nancy
Hello my friend & hope you survived the strong storms the other night. We had some high winds that caused a little damage but nothing severe & only a little rain but the winds were up to 60mph for awhile . Getting ready for some more heat starting today so it's time for river or lake swims. Enjoy the happy hump day & rest of week...........George
A happy weekend to you & hope the was good to you . We were lucky the last go around of storms skipped by us but close by had some strong damaging winds & heavy rain. This coming Monday we made a lifetime vow to each other 63 years ago and we know that as the years go by our time together grows shorter but daily our love for each other grows even more. Have a terrific weekend my friend & take care.....George
