EMOM'S MOUNTAIN NEWS*2013*7*29 - Monday
Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home! Well, get in here if you want to be a little warmer otherwise, come on out here on the back porch. It is deliciously cool out here. Good sleeping weather but here I am, wide awake. lolol
I did trip over the cutest FB item in the news this morning. About Thelma and Louise, the two headed turtle... out in Arizona. She has her very own FB page. I signed up and was accepted as a friend. I love it cause....
I started the Tarpin (terrepin) Rescue League here in the mountains. I am founder and charter member! G'cutter has a silent fit when he drives me places. I insist that he stop so I can 'rescue' them. It really isn't a good idea to stop on these mountain roads but I do it anyway...IF it can be done safely. The second picture below is of two little boys and the one walking away in the pic is the little girl...naturally!
As much as I don't like doing it, I bring them home to check them out and then release in a safe environment. These lil critters are a protected specie. I do the best I can to help. Otherwise, some idiots will go out of their way to run over them to kill or maim. A heads up to one who will do this terrible thing... them lil shells are sharp and can blow your tires with no trouble at all. However, a tire can be replaced. These lil guys/gals cannot.
https://www.facebook.com/thelmaandlouise.turtle?fref=tsNow, when I lived up north, my boys would spend a lot of time in the woods that abutted the city limits. Every now and then, Glen would bring home an injured Box turtle, put it in a large aquarium on the dining room floor. We would treat it; then release it. But during the healing period, Glen would take them out back where he had fixed a 6x6 foot pen. He would sprinkle them with the hose and hand feed them. Their favorite goodie was apples... any and all kinds. Was too funny and too cute to see them take a bath/shower and then head for Glen. He was the goodie guy. One time, I think we had about a dozen injured. All survived and were taken back home and released.
And there was the time I was sound asleep early. Had to go in to work early the next day. Glen wakes me... Mom, can you??????? God love him, he had a painted turtle with a fish hook thru its tongue. Glen had paid a neighbor kid $5.oo for the turtle so something could be done to help it.
Well, I went to work. Took turtle with me. Called a nearby Vet and was told to bring it down (the road) OK, so off I went. Vet didn't charge me but he was tickled... said it took 4 of them to get the surgery done!
The painting is titled the "Yellow House"... this is for the Marvin! lolol gotcha!
The last pic is titled "Lemonade for New Orleans"...My personal comment on the abuse and treatment of the victims of the hurricane and levee failures. I even sent a nastygram to the white house on this treatment fiasco!
I'm out of space again. Sheesh! Take care all of mine. Go in safety always. Remember to care for out least lil critters, sometimes we are all they have.
Many hugs, much love, and loads of laffter... The meems of the Mountains
