I was born a "war baby" in Louisiana,
where my father was stationed in the Army
at the time. My first memories are of living
in New Port Richey, Florida (after the war),
but we soon moved to east-central Alabama
when I was about four-years-old. We returned
to visit Florida when we could for many years
after. I still have a big place in my heart
for the Suncoast.
I now live with my husband near Auburn, AL.
I love pets, and we have a mixed husky and
a rabbit.
In mid-October '11, a lost little calico
cat was crying out in the woods behind our
house. We coaxed her to us, and found signs
she would be having kittens. The joke is
on whoever dumped her, because she is not
having kittens, and we have a new friend,
named Abby.
We have uncounted goldfish living
in an old satellite dish my husband picked
up on the roadside, which we sank into the
ground. I mortared stones (yes, *I* did)
around the upper inside of the satellite
dish and around the rim, and built a fake
stone walkway around it. In the late spring,
I set big pots of plants I have kept in a
small greenhouse all winter around the fish
pool, and it is a little haven under shade
trees in our yard throughout the summer
until mid-to-late fall.
