Elderly or not
Posted On 07/29/2023 14:43:41 by Altara33606

I don't feel "old". I don't "feel" elderly. But according to everything I read and hear, at 75, I am definitely 'elderly'.

Sometimes, contrary to my actual wishes, I do 'act' elderly. I can't walk very far now. And climbing steps is problematic.   But my 'mind' doesn't feel elderly. I'm still able to do creative things. In fact, I think that's what keeps me feeling 'young'.

However, I admit I prefer 'golden oldies' in music. I never bother listening to 'modern' music. And I think a lot of the 'new' customs are silly. I don't understand the big deal about avocado toast. Or having 'gender reveals' when someone is pregnant.  We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl--and it didn't matter, as long as it was a healthy child. That's what's important.

On the other hand, I'm very much 'modern' in my beliefs. I think every person deserves the right to be happy, to love whoever they want, and to be whoever/whatever they want.  Who someone else loves doesn't bother me; it isn't my business.  I may not like how they look; but again, it's not my business. I believe in 'live and let live'.

My thought is: worry about yourself, not what someone else does.  I think the world would be a better place if everyone believed that. Let's hope that's what the future brings.

I'm only 35 years younger but for me Age doesn't matter. People who feels young have a great sense of well being , better cognitive which is such used as remembering,  reasoning , planning, solving problems and decision making. Lower risk of hospitalization and even live a longer life.

Feeling younger could help buffer  middle aged and adult aged against the damaging of stress. Be happy always and spread Smiles anywhere . :)

Well said Di ... I agree, I will be 72 in a few weeks and I feel 40ish. "The elderly category" has a nice ring to it ... I can still do most of the things that I did when I was in my 40s. I was a runner in my 40s and although I don't run anymore I still walk five miles every day. I too believe everyone should live their lives in any way that they choose to, as long as they remember to be kind, pleasant, and respectful to everyone ... life is just too short to live any other way.

I agree with you on everything you've said here Dianne, I'm 71 feel "40" in my head...still think I can do everything I used to, with ease...HAH is that a joke! I believe every human deserves to live their life the way they choose is right for them, and to love whom they want to, I wouldn't want them to dictate to me how I should live my life or love whom I want to love... my body is my body, their body is their body...I treasure mine, and try to live as healthy as I can...of course that means I shouldn't eat junk food, but sometimes, I just gotta! LOL!

I'm also in that "elderly" category. I don't really feel like I am. I agree with your philosophy.
