We have a forum you can post pictures, recipes or jokes you want to share; these are not considered blogs and will be removed. On the other hand, for example, a recipe with a story about a recipe that has special meaning would be fine. Greetings to others, thank you's, etc. are not considered blogs and will be removed.

Halva, Holly and Hazelnuts
Posted On 01/08/2016 22:03:53 by yourchoice
Christmas is now in our past, and we are ready to take on 2016, filled with adventure, new challenges, some trying times and some happy times. My blog this time is from Christmases past for me. I will try to be brief, but you may know how good that works. When our family was on the farm, my father’s favorite christmas treat was halva, a Ukrainian treat made with Sunflower Seeds. I must admit that it wasn’t a favorite treat for me. It stuck to the roof of my mouth. It always was packed in a t... Read More

A story for Christmas Eve

It was christmas Eve 1956, in a little town called Shelby Ohio.  A small 1950's town when times were good, streets were safe, crime real crime not heard of very often, town population around 8,000 people.  I was nine years old and my little sister cathy was 6 and my big brother 14.  We lived in the downstairs of an old victorian house, our rent 19 dollars a month.  of course minimum wage then was  $1 per hour ,  Familys were close.  I had so many cousins o... School concerts, office par... Read More

Welcome to 2015! It seemed to have appeared when I was catching some much needed sleep. We had a marvelous International Christmas, with guests from Iowa and Washington states, and Yorkshire, England. Our home was the "quiet retreat" for the grandparents, but the days were filled with adventure. Two day trips were taken to the mountains. Fifteen of us traveled in two vans to Lake Louise so the grandkids could skate on the lake, and tour the Chateau. On the way, we stopped at the Ridge... Read More

I'm sure that most of us have a memory of some unusual, unplanned, unexpected, unforgettable event during the christmas season; creating a number of responses. I would love to hear your story. Here's our story...On christmas Eve, our daughter and family were coming from their island home off the coast of Seattle, Washington to celebrate christmas with her Canadian family; a rare experience for all of us. At the airport, our son-in-law was told that the documentation that he uses when crossing th... Read More
