I am one that loves to read biographies. The memoir of a person I remember or have read about, or seen a movie based on true facts and accounts. I watched one such movie last night called, "Bombshell, The Hedy Lamarr Story".
Hedy was a Hollywood movie star who was hailed as the most beautiful and glamorous woman in the world. The documentary is the story of Hedy's life and also the fact that she was the inventor of frequency hopping, which is still used today in everything - WiFi, Bluetooth, you name it. Her patent, had she been paid instead of the US Navy stealing it, is now estimated to be worth more than 30 billion US dollars.
At the end of the movie they play a taped interview where she is asked what words she would like to leave the world. Below was her response which is now called, "The Paradoxical Commandments". She truly was a woman way ahead of her time.
"People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.”
