It has been a solemn time in Plymouth this week. It may or may not have been in the news in your area but a policeman on his mororcycle was killed while on duty last week and his wake and burial is today. There are hundreds of morners coming here and if you live where I do there is no getting out of the street by car. The burial procession will pass by on the top of my main street and daughter Cindy and I are going to walk up to the street where they will be coming with the hearse. It is very emotional for all. He was a young man , married with 2 kids...so sad. I'm going to leave shortly but will try to return to tell you all about it
You wouldn't believe it. The sun is shining now at 10 a.m. and yet in another 2 or 3 hours we will be in the throes of a good old nor'easter. Looks like Mother Nature has an abundant supply of that white stuff this year. My area of the East Coast is right smack dab in the center of at least 12" of snow dumped on us. If you turn on the tv all that's on are warnings about the storm....gotta love the weathermen/women...they do go on and on. They get so excited about it. As I've said in the past "Thank goodness I have Netflix and my iPad and otherdevices...no, not that kind of device...they are all charged up and ready to go. I must get my emergency stuff ready now...candles and battery lanterns. I only hope we don't lose our power...that would not be good as, though my furnace runs on natural gas it is fired up by electricity and that would not be good at all. Well, folks if you are also expecting a storm , try not to go out if you don't have to ...and if you are a certain age don't go shoveling that snow. It will probably be heavy. This warning comes from the local weather station...oh, and all other local stations here on the East Coast. Please take care...that comes from me. Later, Luv, Alice
The caption to my blog read....there are two things you can do when it snows...shovel it or make snow angels... (don't know why it didn't show) Alice

Of course there is always go on a get-away to Hawaii. Probably would have to sell the house to do that. Prices are not in my budget. So, yes, we have snow this morning. The weathermen have been saying1 or 2 " in my area, just 40 miles south of Boston....We already have about 2 1/2 " and it is falling straight down at a pretty fast pace. I had high hopes of going to get some stickers etc. to start making my reunion scrapbook, but not today for sure. The other thing is.....they are now forecasting a bigger storm for WEDNESDAY.....at least 5". Now this is not a lot you are mabye thinking as compared to some other places in the country but when you have been housebound for as long as I have, any amount is a lot because I just don't drive in it or even go out into it.....this from an avid snowmobiler in my day....news flash! we are now being told it could be near 5" today instead of the 1 to 2 inches previously. No numbers yet on the storm on Wednesday, but there is a possability of even another storm after Wednesday but no particulars on that one. In New England we call that "just wait and see". It looks like a Thomas Kinkade painting in my backyard. Never said it wasn't pretty. I think I'll surf the net for some ideas for my scrapbook since I do have some spare time(lots of it from the looks) on my hands. But first a nice lunch of my home-made soup to keep me warm and motivated. Later, Luv, Alice
Sunday Morning I By: oldblueeyes99Date:01/19/2014 I just poured my coffee from my new single cup red Keurig coffee maker and sat down at my laptop here in the den and fiddled around with it for a minute or three...never know how it's going to work...I have made a Mickey Mouse set up for now so I can use it...it works for me ....anyway, then my coffee was cool so I got up to nuke it and looked out the window at some movement from the skies...looked like snow...it's 33 degrees on the inside/outside thermometer on the window. Plenty cold enough to snow. In a matter of minutes the ground and car were covered. Never heard a word about it on the weather forecast...well, that's New England for ya...as the saying goes "if you don't like the weather in New England, just wait a minute". Well, I'm going to finish my bulletin and watch a movie that I bought on Amazon...the title is Fracture. Stars Anthony Hopkins. I have seen all of his movies..such an actor...one of my faves is "The Last Indian"..it's about a racing car..not what one would suspect...super acting. I bought Fracture for 1 cent and $4.00 ship/hand. Still a bargain. I know I've seen it a while back but always a good one to watch if you like suspense...he can make a simple suspense movie become a thriller within minutes. I just looked out the window and the snow has slowed down and I can see lighter skies in the distance with a show of a little sun. That's probably my excitement for the day. Now the sun is out here and there is no trace that it ever snowed. At this point I think I'll do one or two more things on the laptop then snuggle down with my movie. Have a wonderful Sunday and be sure to do something nice for yourself. Later, Luv, Alice ♥
I am almost ready for the big day. A little drawback this morning ...as I was almost ready to put the frosting on the pumpkin roll (looks like a jelly roll but made with pumpkin) I discovered that I didn't have quite enough confectioners sugar to finish frosting the cake. Oh, no, it's pouring out...really didn't want to go scurrying out in the rain and crowded supermarket...fight the unruly shoppers...maybe even not find what I needed. But, I braved it all and threw caution to the wind because I had too much invested in this semi-nuisance of a cake (roll) . I always wanted to make one so this is the year for it. Lots of steps to make it (cake part is from scratch). Got a phone call just 2 minutes prior to the oven timer to go off...no kidding ...no way could I take that call. Pulled out the cake and had to put it upside down on a towel dusted with powdered sugar and roll it up in the towel. Carefully is the chief word here. Well, I made it despite myself. May I mention that yes, all of Plymouth was out shopping and my handicap card was of no use or importance at this point. Folks just take the spots card or not. So, I parked about a 4 minute walk to the store, greeted by the bell ringer whom I had taken care of on many trips to the store. He then made me feel so cheap by looking right at my face and told me Merry Christmas. I just kept trudging on...I knew I had been fair at other times. I also needed a few other things that I felt I should pick up while I was there. Up and down the aisles all you could hear was "excuse me, pardon me, sorry, or just nothing at all as some just plowed their way in some big hurry to get to some magical place. God bless them. I managed to get out unscathed and got in my little Toyota Corolla which was now parked between two huge oversized vans....help....it also was raining harder than before which was like I always say .... . All's well that ends one way or another. The pumpkin roll is done and looks pretty darned good if I do say so myself...and I just did. So, now that the day is almost over I can relax ...until tomorrow as I get ready to entertain 5 other adults, a 3 year old and a 5 year old, for supper, and most likely get done just in time to run upstairs and change my food stained clothes and look calm and rested as they come through the door and think that's all I had to do was sit there and look all Chrissmasy and rested. Merry Christmas to all and to all a grand night . Later, Luv, Alice

I thought that I had been sending thank you's back but in checking I thing that they all didn't go through. Sorry about that. Sometimes mysteries happen here in computer land. So, thank you again. I am going to be 83 next month. I know, that's a long time ago. But in those years I have seen a lot of things and a lot of changes. My confession is this...I am a Holiday snob. We were brought up with the feeling of celebrating holidays with family and bonding with each other on those days set aside with feelings of love and enjoyment of each other's company. Now, I am wondering why this had to change. First of all I never liked the phrase "Black Friday". Sounds like they made the day after Thanksgiving a day of mourning. Yesterday morning as I was watching TV I got a real smack in the stomach. They were referring to Thanksgiving as "gray Thursday"....really???? So, watching the ravings of the retailers out there makes me so unhappy. Just what are the holidays about anymore...who are the holidays for ...family or retailers? Some states are allowing stores to open on Thanksgiving afternoon or sooner. What?? So, our families get together, give thanks, have a wonderful meal and in a bit our favorite pies or desserts then it's "see ya later have to go shopping now". In most cases the big sales that are happening have been cheaper at an earlier time. It just seems such a shame that it has come to this. As for me, I am hosted by a different child (I had 5) each Thanksgiving and we still uphold the meaning of it all. We stay at home and the guys (and some gals) watch football ...a great tradiditon...then we get out the leftovers and make turkey and cranberry sandwiches...hit the desserts again and talk about the good old days..I always say they were the good old days, we just didn't know it. So, those are my feelings and I'm sticking with them. Happy Thanksgiving.
IMG]http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm299/oldblueeyes99_2008/Christmas%20-%20Thanksgiving%20Pictures /thththksgvgwkitten.jpg[/IMG] From America's Home Town...where the first Thanksgiving took place. Yesterday I attended our annual Thanksgiving Parade. A comment was made on some program that the parade in Plymouth Ma. is the 2nd biggest Thanksgiving Parade in America....Macy's being the #1 parade. What we want to know how many other Thanksgiving Parades take place across America?? I'll bet we are the only 2. Too funny. I attended the parade with my daughter Karen mostly because my great-grandaughter Emily was in the High School marchin band. It was very cold and we left early for the parade so we'd get a good place to view it all. We waited for 2 hours for it to come by us and it was a superb parade indeed. We had everything from Pilgrims and Indians to Schotchmen bands complete with Kiltes...brrrr. Actually 2 of those bands. All kinds of floats and all. Bands from Boston came (40 miles to the north of us) complete with policemen walking the crowd with sniffer dogs.. wouldn't want to mess with those guys or dogs. I spent about 3 1/2 hours all told in the cold and wind all dressed up like an Eskimo. It was worth it though. Like the doorway to Christmas...we don't have a Christmas Parade. When I got home I slept for about 2 1/2 hours. It was a long day. I'm just lazing around sort of today. Got my tree put together and was about to put the garland on when to my dismay I cannot find it. I have lots of ornaments but it wasn't with them for some uncertain reasoning when I took the garland off the tree and put it in a secure place...now if I knew it was going to be that secure I would have written it down and put that in a secure place too...ahh this gold plated age....Well, I'll sign off now and see if I can find some nice Christmas story on the Hallmark Channel. I can still remeber where that is. Somewhat of a good sign. Later, Luv, Alice
