Another day with almost nothing open... no schools, no banks, no local government offices, very few planes taking off and landing, etc. So we are not leaving the house. There are kids, adults, and animals outside but not for long. Everything is solid ice and not soft snow. More freezing rain in the DFW area and heading in this afternoon. I am wishing you Winter Peace for this first day of February and all month long. Starting Monday, we hope for a week of temperatures in the 60's.
I took this picture at 8:15 am. The sleet had already started falling. When I looked at about 7:30 and there was only a tiny puddle in the driveway but no white stuff.
Around 10 am we could hear the sleeting rain loudly falling on the plastic covering the plants in the backyard. This is a picture from the front where the icicles were hanging from the roof and forming on the youpon.
What a difference a couple hours make! Our total whiteout... you can't tell where the street ends and the grass starts. It is 28° at noon; 29° was high yesterday; 33° high tomorrow. About an hour after I took this, the Mail truck delivered our mail. I just saw a squirrel run across the yard. Too fast to get a picture.
Wendy sent me this from Bowie. All 30 or so chickens are inside the coop. Can you see the Rooster on the top?
Is it Springtime yet? Barefoot walking in the GREEN grass! I am so ready for flowers to be blooming!
Good Monday Morning to you! We started this day at 26° feels like 16°. We will NOT be above freezing until noon on Wednesday when our high will be 35°.
We are supposed to have freezing rain and sleet for the next 3 days and then on Thursday... just rain. Are you jealous?
Now, I know a bunch of you like winter and are used to this for months on end. However... this is TEXAS! And I really do like it 80° to 90° most days.
Lots of people moved here from other states. I wonder if they know how to drive on ICE??? At 6:30 this morning, the news was reporting 18 wrecks in the last 40 minutes and that was BEFORE rush hour. They said you could easily be stuck in your car for over an hour.
I don't know about you Cheryl, but I like it when I have time alone - I can do whatever I want weather it's running the vacuume or doiing other housework at my leisure or get to watch what I want on tv. We didn't play dominos tonite as it was cancelled. The auxillary president was to be called into a meeting with the head man in Raleigh who was supposed to be coming down (3 hrs away) and rich was going to go too. Then he cancelled and I had started cooking for tonites dinner and put it all away so it was too late when we found out the meeting wa called off to start it up again. So I cook next week again. I was making tortellini soup so I'll make it for us tomorrow - tnoite I had steakes and mashed potatoes. You sure are having some cold weather Cheryl. When we were in Jersey over Christmas we had 8 degree weather feeling lik =116 with the horrible heavy wind that blew. You sure are right - it's noo time to be out unless you had to go to work. On the plus side we got to watch foot ball - the teams that are going to the Super Bowl. Philly is on and it will probably be the Kansas City Chiefs. don't know if you watch football or noot but we like it. Have a wonderful nite. Hugs, Wendy
Happy Friday afternoon to you too Cheryl. I haven't done a bloody thing all day. Got up early then went back to bed around 11 for a short nap. Then I went with honey to the store to get a new flag as the last bad storm we had, it tore all up. It was time to replace it anyway as it had faded. We'll take it to the VFW post and put it in the box to be burned with all the others on flag day during the ceremony. Had the other half of the sub for lunch today and am not hungry for dinner, but we have to eat something as we're going out tonite to the Moose at 7 and I won't last till midnite when we come home. It's a nice sunny day here too but a bit on the cool side at 49 but is gonna go up to 60 on Sunday. Hope you have a good rest of the day. Hugs, Wendy
Ok! I am ready to read a book now that I have my new glasses. What do you think? Do they make me look younger?
Do you have a good book you just finished that you might like to share or recommend?
Let me show you my favorite part in the book I just finished. I laughed and laughed at this part.
Then I started looking for another good book by the same author and got so tired that I just closed my eyes for a minute.
Oh, who am I kidding? When I read I just seem to fall asleep and dream. Now where was I? Time to get up and go do something exciting. Where is that ball of yarn?
