Hello Darlene.  Beautiful warm sunny day here and seems it will be like this well into next week. I’m thinking I may get out into the garden and do some weeding then. Not today though as I’m about to start wrapping the G Grandies birthday gifts that were dropped off during the week. I give their mother money so she can purchase their gifts as she knows what they want and need. I do this with their Xmas pressies too and it works well for all of us. Then later in the day I’ll be off to church service.

Oh my little dog is much better and almost back to his cheeky self. He had an ulcer in his eye and after 5 weeks of treating it with drops and ointment with no improvement as a last resort the vet decided on surgery. After that I could see the improvement. I continued with the drops and ointment and he was given a good report on his last visit. The eye is looking so much better now thank goodness. He is so good with medication it’s easy to treat him however if it had been little Channie I would have had a dreadful time. She is sooo stubborn.  Enjoy your weekend. Hugs Pat.

Been nice having two rain free days. More rain chances though Monday and Tuesday. It's been a busy weekend here, but we have made progress on our to do list. One day closer to Fall 🙂

07/23/2024 02:54:38

Hi Darlene. Well I had so much planned for the day and here it is late afternoon and not much is accomplished. I was going to hem two pair slacks. Oh well. Looks like a job for tomorrow. Sun shining again today. That’s two days in a row but not going to last as rain forecast for Thursday. I’m thinking you are pleased to be getting closer to Fall. This month especially seems to be speeding by. Are you still using the Treadmill? I’ve not used mine since Winter set in. It’s in the garage and too cold there so will wait for the warmer days before I get energetic again.  Have a great day. Hugs Pat.

Looks like we are drying up after 6 days of rain... close to 11" Now we have a small leak in roof. I'm suspicious we could have had damage from the storm we had on May 8 that brought very high winds. So will have a roofer out this week to access the damage...Hope all is good your way.

07/14/2024 08:19:11

97 today...ugh...if we can make it to Thursday, a brief cool down arrives for a few days. We're in Dog days now..July 3-August 11. Been trying to catch up here..some progress..hopefully will finish by next weekend. What a crazy day yesterday..so much to witness. Praying vehemently for this country.

Terrific Tuesday to you! A sunny one at my house and a sweat-inducing one, too. We did our outdoor work this morning and will be indoors the rest of the day. A good afternoon to sit and watch the birds at their feeding station out our front windows.

Hot, humid, and happy hugs~

Darlene...

Ooooo, your page is so pretty!  On a hot day like today, it's a very cooling page to view as I sit in my office and plink away on my keyboard.  Sorry it's been an age since I've dropped by.  Lots going on with my hubby's health, my mother preparing to move into assisted living, plus my back is threatening to go out without me (fickle back, anyway!)  But here I am and I'll try my best to catch you up before I need to head out to the dining room and give Dennis (my hubby) a haircut.

First, thank you for the compliment on my senior photo; I did only put it on my page since I was wearing a green (and too darned short--though I didn't think so at the time) dress and it fit the whole Irish/St. Patrick's Day/early spring theme.  I had fun in high school once I relaxed enough to enjoy it (shyness + introvert combo meant I spent my free time my freshman year in the girl's bathroom so I could avoid dealing with most of the kids I didn't know--yeah, kind of silly).  Den's 50th class reunion events were this year and mine are coming up next year.  I am in charge of ours, so I picked up some do's and don'ts while ol' Dennis and I were having such a great time catching up.  DO get nametags of some sort...DON'T hold it in the first venue they had (in a large outdoor tent where the noise had no place to go and it made conversations difficult to hear...and at our ages...we don't need that!), and think about having more than one get-together so that as many as possible will get to attend.

We went to the alumni banquet for the first time ever (and we live just up the street from the high school where it's always held--can see the grandstands from our kitchen window).  I don't know as the whole thing was worth $50 to hang out in the old gym, have a meal and talk for all too brief an amount of time...but the money goes toward paying their expenses for the food and then towards scholorships, so that's not a bad investment in our small town's future.  We just generally haven't had extra cash to do that kind of thing over the years.  But a lot of Den's former classmates showed up to the banquet and really swelled the numbers up (and their coffers, which I'm sure they appreciated), so we were able to connect some more to those who came.

Have had to go to far too many funerals/memorial services this year.  I don't know just why, but we've had a clutch of family/friends die lately.  Our marryin'/buryin' outfits have gotten more use than we'd like them to, but it's for showing support to those who're feeling the hurt of the losses a lot more than we are and that's important.  One of the services was for Den's cousins wife and we needed to go north of Seattle for that one.  On the day of the northern lights being farther south than usual, but we didn't know about it and so didn't look out of our hotel window.  Oops.  At least traffic wasn't too hairy around the metro areas and we only took a wrong exit once--which turned out to be a nice, relaxing detour away from the crowded freeway and we eventually got back on, but nearer to where the traffic drops off to a more normal flow instead of so heavy in the Seattle/Olympia/Tacoma, etc. areas.  For those kinds of things, it's so darned nice to get home!!

You had asked what comes next for my china cabinet after I put away all of the green items from March.  I go to a combination spring/mother's day blend and I still have that out.  It's about time to take it all down, clean off what needs to be cleaned (or dusted) and put it away.  Then I'll go with summery stuff or maybe I'll just put out stuff that I want to see, since my stock of summer-themed items isn't that big.  I'm not a summer person.  The extra-long days are wonderful, but the heat and lack of rain is something I could cheerfully do without.  By the end of summer, the fire danger around here can get pretty scary and with the heat ramped up this early in the season...well, I just hope we get a solid week of rain sometime to offset this hot-n-dry.

Both Dennis and I like old westerns (and some newer ones where they don't overdo the gore and actually pay attention to details--"Silverado" is one that leaps to mind, as it's one of my favorites).  I'm not much of a traveler, so it's probably a good thing that my ancestors were.  It has to have taken a lot of grit to pack up whatever you owned--and either sell or give away what you couldn't take with you in the wagon--and head out into the unknown to start a new life.  Not all of them made it, of course, but most of them did and plunked down roots and made whatever they could of their new lives and homes in the west.  They are to be admired, for certain, for their pluck and perserverence!

You had asked if we have a fireplace and no, we don't.  We have a wood stove on the main floor and a pellet stove in the basement.  Not very romantic like a fireplace can be, but they both do the job of keeping our home warm in the colder months.  For either the fireplace or wood stove, there is a need to be supplied with wood (unless it's actually a gas or electric stove--all of the heat, the "romance", but without the mess and bother of obtaining firewood) and as Dennis gets older, that chore is harder and harder to do.  Yes, he has gotten plenty of firewood on his own over the years, but we've also purchased cords of wood.  Being on a fixed income, though...we do have to watch our expenses more closely.  So what we'll do on down the road...I don't know.

To catch you up on Dennis, then.  He got the ablation done, finally, and it has put his heart back in rhythm.  It took a big chunk of the day to do, though about half of that time was recovering from it so I could take him home and another bunch of time was required for checking into the hospital and prepping Dennis for the procedure.  They did an echocardiogram after some time had passed from the ablation and one of the functions of his heart isn't up to where it ought to be.  It has improved from before the ablation, but not very much.  So now the cardiologist will be doing an angiogram to make sure Dennis doesn't have any blocked arteries or slowing anywhere in his blood vessels that might be impeding his progress in coming back to "normal".  His doc said if there isn't a problem with blood flow, that he might only be a 'slow bloomer' and that function would continue to slowly improve and Dennis feels better and can do more and more things to strengthen his body and his heart.  So we'll see how that one goes.

You had asked about Easter and we kept it very low key.  At the end of March, Dennis was still in A-Fib (they didn't get him scheduled for the ablation until the early part of April).  I used to love to dye Easter eggs and have never cared that much for jelly beans.  My grandmother loved the black ones, as you do.  And maybe it was for the stronger flavor they have--they are definitely a licorice sort of taste, as I recall.  I prefer Christmas, insofar as holidays go.  The 4th of July I could cheerfully chuck in the bin, as I don't care for the noise and those who don't take enough care with their use of fireworks.  I have a view across the Columbia River of what happens when others are careless with them, as teenagers horsing around with fireworks cause the Eagle Creek fire which decimated the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge.  So, I'm not a fan of that kind of "fun".

Gee, Darlene...I'm so sorry that you need to walk with a cane these days.  I guess old bones (and the rest of our older bodies) just don't heal nearly as well or as quickly as our younger selves did.  I've been fortunate enough to have escaped breaking any bones, though I did sprain my ankle on the first day of 7th grade.  And since I still not only remember it, but even the day of it and how I did it (playing 4 square, of all things, and dodging a hard serve), the pain of it made a strong impression.  I wish you hadn't had that fall on the ice--such a slippery, hard surface to both navigate on or fall onto.  I hope the cane gives you enough support so you feel comfortable and safe in getting around and doing whatever you want to do.  Sorry your hubby seems to have bogged down with his retirement.  I think a lot of people just don't know what to do with themselves once they retire.  Has he given a thought to volunteering or perhaps getting a part-time job of some sort?  Taking up a hobby that he may have an interest in?  Gardening?  Making and flying kites?  (That one is out of left field, but sometimes that's where you find the best ideas.)  Gourmet cooking?  Baking?  Helping out at a daycare or nearby grade school?  I'm sure your George still has skills he could share with others, if he wanted to.  It's often taking that first step or steps towards something new and different which tends to inhibit us from taking a chance.  But once it's been done, I most often find that it wasn't nearly as difficult or complicated as I was making it out to be.  Good luck!!  Finding something to be interested in is vital in having your life have enough meaning for your body to continue to function as best as it can.

I guess I'd better turn over your page to someone else, hmmm?  I've got a lot of catching up to do here on the Hill, but then...I do that from time to time.  I still think of you, though, and appreciate the heck out of your efforts to stay in touch--thank you so very much, Darlene!!!  Keep cool and stay healthy...summer may be scorching hot, but at least there's no ice on the ground to fall and break bones on!!!

Love and Hugs,
Paula

This little girl has the right idea for keeping cool. Reminds me of my childhood and playing in the sprinkler. Is 65 too old to play in the sprinkler? Age is just a number, right? It is no indication of maturity. LOL Have a great midweek and if you are inclined, meet me at the sprinkler. Darlene, I like lemon in my tea and in my water. But lately I'm using Bigelow Botanicals in my water. They look like tea bags but they are different herbs and blossoms and give water and little bit of flavor so it's not so boring. I have put lemon on my fish, yet. And I have made lemonade though, like you, I prefer tea. I love lemonade pie, lemon meringue pie, lemon bars.....all very healthy, low-cal items as you can see. HAHAHA

Smiles and hugs~

Hello, dear friend. I've been busy tending
to many doc appointments, home health,
and trying to play catch-up here at home
after ignoring my household chores for
weeks. Maybe normal will return soon.
Hope you are doing well and keeping cool
& comfy during this heat. Take care!
*hugs* -di

A busy weekend..Monday too. We will see 90's all week..but the humidity has been low. No rain in sight. Wishing you a wonderful new week ajead -:)

06/12/2024 11:36:53

Thanks, Darlene.♥ Hope you're doing good this
time of year... going into summer. (YUCH) lol
We can complain to each other all season

of Fall... right? *hugs* -di

06/10/2024 20:13:30

A busy Monday..and it's heating up here..one more day of low 80's, then we will see 90 the remainder of this week..I'm not ready, but may as well grin and bear it. On a positive thought, we are one day closer to Fall🙂🌸🙂

06/10/2024 14:22:32

It is a beautiful day at my homestead and I hope your day is beautiful, too. I've gotten a lot accomplished today. Made an Amish chocolate pie, picked blackberries, staked tomatoes, hung out wash....I'm sure you don't want all the details but I feel good about what I've done. Are you having a good start to the week? My silkie chickens are the ones I'm thinking are mostly daggum roos. But silkies are docile and generally not aggressive. We will see. If they start fussing b/c of the females, we will either put the roos together in with our duck (where there's no girls to fight about) or, well, give them a ticket to chicken heaven. I know one of my bantams is a roo for sure but he is, so far, very laid back. I pray it stays that way b/c he is my favorite!

Happy hugs~

Good morning. Well a new week begins. Hope it will be a good one for you. Have you any special plans for the week?

It’s a Long weekend here with a public holiday on Monday.  I’ve not ventured out apart from driving to Church.  Much safer off the roads at this time.  There was a Town Market yesterday where all local products and crafts are for sale where a person can get good bargains but there’s nothing I want so gave that a miss.
I’ve only a couple of appointments this week so should have some extra time to spend doing the things I like.  Enjoy the new week.  Hugs Pat.

06/03/2024 12:47:01

80 here and humidity is not too bad..60%. Sure hope the rain will hold off this week, as we were hoping to finish our shed outside..now the metal (for roof) won't be in till the 16th of this month. So probably looking at having it complete and final inspection done by end of this month..

05/21/2024 13:16:55

A semi busy Tuesday..looks like over cast skies, and humid too. Our grass has grown considerably given the amount of rain that fell since last weekend. So guess what we'll be doing next weekend?

05/13/2024 19:24:17

More rain here Tuesday and Wednesday. But enjoying the cooler temps. Getting hair cut n color on Wednesday. It grows so darn fast. It was a super busy Monday...managed to get laundry done. Hope your week goes well -:)

05/13/2024 10:10:39

I had such a great weekend, I don't even mind that it's Monday. Like it would matter if I did?! LOL Have a terrific week! Darlene, since Dave made a cage around the camera bird feeder, the squirrel has been unable to get to the feed. Not for lack of trying on his part, however. I feed Bill (the squirrel) nuts and such on the ground to satisfy his desires but he still wants the bird seed. Go figure.

Hugs~

Beautiful temps here thus far. Just looked at extended forecast, and rain is on the horizon for next weekend. Of course we cut the grass yesterday. With all of the sunshine, and much warmer temps, it's growing too fast. Our lush mower is old, so we may be buying a new one soon, one that is self propelled..as we have a steep hill in front of house. Our son moved out, so now it's up to the hubby to keep lawn maintained. Wishing you a wonderful new week ahead.

04/26/2024 20:22:44

Hi Darlene, enjoy your weekend  .

It`s going to be a little humid  here they say and  going up to 80 degrees.

Going to rain throughout the day too.

Would of wanted to hose down the windows   but that can get done  next week .

So glad i got my lawn cut and out of the way .

God bless you and hope you are feeling  good .  Night night :)

04/21/2024 13:44:18

Light rain has been falling off and on since 9 am..believe it ends by 3 pm. Currently 51 and overcast. We might see sunshine late tomorrow. Got to jump on YouTube and see if Donald's Wilmington visit has been rescheduled. Enjoy the new week ahead 🙂

04/19/2024 20:15:24

A busy Friday, but got all done, and was back home by noon. We will see 80 on Saturday, but Sunday, rain and 58 degrees. Will be a good day to stay inside. Enjoy your weekend 🙂🌸🙂

04/19/2024 11:17:46

Fabulous Friday to you! It's going to be a "cold beverage" kind of day in my area. I stepped outside a bit ago and the humidity sucks the air out of you. A summer preview, I guess. At least the sun is shining and it's very pretty with all the flowers blooming. Whatever the weather where you are, enjoy the sunshine or make your own!

Happiest hugs~

Darci

04/18/2024 11:34:09

Good morning! If you're having a rainy
day, too, stay cozy. Soon the summer
sun will take charge, Darlene. (ugh)

04/18/2024 08:16:28

Hi Darlene. Hope your day will be pleasant and sunny. Signs of Spring must be showing your way. I noticed a few pre Winter bulbs are bursting into flower here. that will make a splash of colour before the cold wet days set in.  Our days are slowly closing in and  the nights are becomming longer. Enjoy your Thursday.  Hugs Pat.

04/17/2024 13:45:18

I hope your day has been wonderful so far. I've gotten my Wednesday work done, watered plants, filled the bird bath, and hung out plant id tags in the garden. It's quite sticky outside so I'm happy to be back indoors with the a/c and my handy dandy box of tissues. Allergy season! Yes, we feed wild birds as well as the chickens. I swear we spend more money on anim als than ourselves. LOL

Loads of love~

Darci

04/15/2024 12:02:02

We used to have a garden each year.
Now our veggies are from farmers mkts,
and prices are high. But what would we
do w/o okra to fry, and corn to cream?
Merry Monday, Darlene.

04/13/2024 11:12:02

Happy sparkling Saturday! No, I didn't choose to change computers... doesn't work like that when they just fall over dead. lol I do my own setting up, Darlene. Hope you're getting over the warmer weather. I'm having problems w/sinuses; know what the cause is... Spring! ha Take care of you, pal...  *hugs*

04/12/2024 19:39:53

Having lotsa fun (pants on fire) setting up
new PC after old one died Sunday. Win11 is
different, but so far we're gettin' along.
Have a great weekend! *hugs* -di

04/04/2024 11:10:31

The sun is bright and the wind is
brisk 'n cool. I like this:) Hope your
day is beautiful, Darlene!
