The Truth WIll Out
Posted On: 09/08/2013 13:52:31

Well dear souls;

I have decided it is finally time to acknowledge my royal status.
I have kept this secret, lo these many years, deeming life would be much simpler if I could manage to live it incognito.
There comes a time however, when even the best kept secrets finally must be exposed to the light of day.

I do realize that those of you who know best me must be somewhat surprised to discover that I am actually a princess.

I do also fully understand that you have always considered me to be a somewhat hoydenish, country gal who is none too fond of dressing up or wearing shoes; a gal who is happiest dealing with recalcitrant critters, yanking weeds, and generally adhering to the pioneer manner of preserving the fruits of the earth, vine and tree.
You have known me also as a gal who is happiest spending her days ambling the highways and byways searching out secret places; a gal who will gladly wade through waist high swamp muck searching out elusive flora and fauna. (often ending up with a case of Poison Ivy).

It is thus with a certain reluctance that I disclose my status, but I have realized lately that the truth can no longer be hidden.

It's the bed you see.

It doesn't love me anymore.

Now, I wouldn't want you to blame the bed entirely.

While it is true, that the mattress is well past it's best due date, the fault lies entirely with me and my royal blood, not the bed.

It is a well known fact to some of you that I am a lifelong insomniac.
From my salad days, sleep and I were ever strangers.
It has now come to the point where we are not even on speaking terms.

My nights are spent tossing and turning.
I have more ups and downs than a toilet seat.

It's the peas you see.

Oh, I don't mean real ones...
But my bed feels like there are peas under the mattress.
I feel every dimple, and crumple, each wrinkle and crinkle.
The nap on the sheets causes excruciating agony.
Now, some people might blame this on the osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, but in fact the entire problem lies with my royal blood.

Phew!
It sure is a relief now that you all know.
Confession really is good for the soul.

So...
Now that the issue is out in the open.. I have decided to treat myself to a bed worthy of a princess.
I've bitten the bullet; grabbed the rose by the thorns; and...
I've ordered a new mattress.

Now granted, I will still be sleeping on a circa 1810-1820 maple four poster bed with canopy, which has been converted from a rope bed, but now..
On top of the 1" plywood platform, which rests atop the side rails there will be a new 14" foam mattress, replacing the current 7" mattress.
Granted, the bed, which is already much higher than normal will be an additional 7" higher..
But I hope that sleep and I will once more become firm friends.

Now..
Does anyone have an antique bed stool for sale?

This is so bizarre that I am reading this today... My mattress set is 42 years old, and firm & very comfy. It was $900, the cheapest "Queen", I could find in Sears, back in 1972. Overnight guests want to know what it is, cause they want one. Well it is so old the cloth material is brittle & disintegrating, & the boxspring foam is dried & shedding out of the (massive) holes in the cover material. I have been researching mattress sets for a couple years, now. So yesterday at noon I went around the block (I live in the country, so around the block is around 5 miles) to the "Mattress Makers" showroom on Route 28. They have been getting great reviews/recommendations since they opened, late 1990's. I went to the website first and checked out the offers, & printed out a $50 discount coupon. All the retailers are having huge bedding sales starting at $399 for Queen size. I laid, & rolled around on all of the $399-$499.,  and chose a firm pillow top for $399 and got $50 off for a grand total $349. And, yes my bed is another foot higher, but I can roll onto it. My mother used to need a step-up for her bed, but they just got a SleepNumber and it is closer to the ground. So she is giving me her fancy wooden step-up, which my father made. All my sheets were made for a thicker mattress so they were too big for the old mattress. I absolutely, unequivocally cannot sleep in a strange bed... never have been able to, so that also put me off from getting a new mattress. Well,... I slept so well !!!... Didn't even feel any difference... perfect support for any position I slept in. And, it was less than half of what I paid for the old one.

So, Princess Derrough, I wish you all the comfort I am enjoying and more. May you always have great night sleeps, for evermore.

Hiya Suzan;

Unfortunately my better half is not overly fond of lavender, although..
As long as you don't tell anyone..
I take a looong lavender soak in a lavender bathroom (circa 1950) every day.
As a child I used to sleep with a lavender cachet in my pillow...
Unfortunately..
I still didn't sleep.
I think I'm a watcher.
I have to watch and make sure the world is safe at night.
Thanks for the suggestion..
Hugs..

Hi Barb...
Now don't be telling me you are anticipating a few cuss words.
Although..
I'm not overly sanguine about this being the cure all myself.
So you could well be right.
I was actually looking for a new air bed, The last one I had was the most comfortable bed for me.
It lasted 25 years before it finally gave up the ghost.
Unfortunately, the one I want they don't make anymore, it was twice the bed and half the cost of a Sleep Number.
So we'll see if this works.
I guess I'm just going to have to win the lotto and bring both you and the steps over on a nice cruise ship.
Until then I'll have to scramble up and hope I don't fall out hahaha.
