[IMG]http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm299/oldblueeyes99_2008/Morning%20-%20Noon%20-%20Night/greatwee kend. Good morning or whatever time of day it is in your neck of the woods. I don't know if this happens where you live, but in our area (Eastern seacoast and Cape Cod) in the Spring our oak trees and others are infested with ugly black caterpillars. They are everywhere and chew the tree leaves. Some are stripped down to practically no leaves. Now that Summer is here they have transformed into ugly moths. they have invaded our space unmercifully. When you get up in the morning and pull up the shades there they are just hanging outside waiting for a chance to sneak in if you should open a door or window. At night they congregate around the outside light and bump into the windows and we don't open the doors if we can help it. Some years are worse than others and this year is what the call "the worserest" in several years. There is no sure way of getting rid of them and for the life of me I don't know what their purpose is. Reminds me of that Alfred Hitchcock movie from long ago..The Birds....only we have The Moths. Nothing pretty about them either....Anyway, along with the heat it has been an uncomfortable Summer. I remember saying back in the frigid Winter days that I would not complain about the hot Summer days ( not to mention "the moths", and here I am doing just that. Thanks for letting me vent. Have a great week-end and enjoy the outdoors if you are lucky enough to. Later, Luv, Alice ♥
Funny story about my great g/dtr Thea. She and her mom have pink eye and had to go to the dr's yesterday. When she got up this morning of course she wasn't going to school but was up early anyway. So, she asked her mother what it was that they had (she's 5) and her mom said we have contageous conjunctivitis. So, when her sister Lyla (she's 7) came down stairs she ran over to her and said "guess what Lyla? Mom and I have contageousitis". Close enough. Love it when they make up their own words. xxx ♥
Today we are being bombarded with lots of rain. I have no plans to go out today and it's a good thing or I'd be floating away. So glad it isn't snow...we'd be knee deep into it by now. I have given up driving as I just don't feel comfortable even making short trips so I knew the time had come...and didn't have to listen to my kids tell me that i had to give it up. My friend Barb loves to drive so that means a lot to me when she calls and invites me to go shopping or just a ride. Soon my car will be going to my great granddaughter and so no car in the driveway will seem so strange to me. It was always there for me to hop into whenever I had to do a few errands nearby. Life changes and I'll be going thru another transition in my journey thru life. Three of my kids live nearby and will pitch in also. They were glad that I knew it was time without having to nag me. Due to the weather the past few weeks I haven't been able to do much walking and i feel the difference in my knees..but I do use the treadmill on the days that I can't get out to walk. It's just not the same but will have to do. It looks like a reading day for me today and mabe I'll iron the few pieces that I have ...boring. Hope you all have a fruitful week-end. Take care. Luv, Alice x♥
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm299/oldblueeyes99_2008/Holidays/happynewyear-1.jpg[/IMG] Well, here we are into a new year. Have to remember to change the dates on things. That could be a problem...remembering anything is these days. I try to tell myself each morning that today is the first day of the rest of my life especially since I have added another year to my age. I don't feel any different though so I guess that's a start. I have put away most of the Christmas things and have sorted out the ones I didn't use and am tossing them out. Also yesterday I did some re-organizing in the cellar. I have put "stuff" into rubbish bags and already it looks half way decent down there. I must find a rubbish man to come and tote them off when I am done. Amazing how many things we accumulate in the course of 85 years which is also amazing that I have been around for as many years. The kids were so good to me over Christmas and my birthday even though I told them not to go overboard as I was trying not to have so much of the "stuff" that I forementioned. Well as they say "out with the old and in with the new"....expect for me that is . Have a truly great 2016. Later, Luv, Alice
Saturday November 21 Parade By: oldblueeyes99Date:11/21/2015 Happy Thanksgiving Saturday ...Day of our big Parade. We have this parade every year celebrating the coming of Thanksgiving... Sending a few pics about America's Home Town... My Home Town...
Well according to the calendar this is the first day of Spring. However, according to Mother Nature, she has a different plan for those of us on the Eastern Coast. We will be getting a show of snow later on in the afternoon...but just a dusting or about an inch. I've heard that story before. Things change here so fast you just don't see it coming. The weather folks keep telling us that we beat an all time record ever for the amount of snow we had this Winter..myself I don't want bragging rights for having the most snow ever. I am still hoping the snowbanks along the roads and in yards in our area. With all the plowing and so forth what I'm thinking is how will this affect our taxes. I do believe we have paid out a record amount of money to get it done as the budget we had for such has been the most ever. I went shopping with my daughter this morning and was glad to get out, but, the shoppers didn't seem to be too happy. Mostly from the Winter blues. We'll get over it and can only hope for a nice normal Spring and not a Summer that is overbaringly hot. I do love that we have 4 seasons and can only hope for better days ahead. Take care. Luv, Alice ♥ ♥ ♥
Well, I made some gingerbread. I ate a couple of pieces and cut the rest into squares and put them in the freezer for future reference. The snow angels (above) are something I didn't make. Slept in this morning and am still in the jammies. Not like me to not get dresses first thing in the morning. The snow is slowly increasing and will do so steadily until Tuesday they are saying. Looks like the weather folks called this one right. (I hate it when that happens.) I didn't quite finish my book yesterday but will do so today. I have about 50 pages left. Paper back books go fast. I'm also watching the Medium Series with Patricia Arquette. Never watched it too much when it was on tv. Well, this is a very laid back day for me. I have not made my bed yet...a big no-no in my patterns of life...the bed police will catch me for sure. I will sweep off the outside steps...making room for the snow yet to come. Sunday dinner will be the leftovers in the fridge...more lazy stuff and the list is getting bigger. Anyway, I'm off to get dressed and do the steps and I'll have the rest of the day to do what I want ....oh, wait, I can do that all the time anyway.. Being alone has an advantage at times...Take care and have a great Sunday. Later, Luv, Alice
I decided to plant my morning glory seeds this morning so I soaked them overnight and went out to the porch where I have always had a window box type box on the top stair landing to the back door. When what to my surprise....there was mr. froggie...fast asleep with his front legs leaning up on the box. It was a good size and so i needed to get a picture of it. Went in the house to get the camera feeling for sure the froggie was going to be gone when I returned. Nope, there he was in the same position. I made some noises but he still didn't move. So, I snapped a pic from a fairly closeness and still he slept. So, I put the camera near his face and snapped again. Still he didn't move. I then put the camera back in the kitchen and returned so I could get the seeds planted. When I came out he was gone. Guess he just wanted his picuture taken. Funny thing...last year I had another frog make the flower box him home. He stayed in the box for weeks. I'm thinking he liked the showers that I gave him every nite. I did manage finally to get my seeds planted. If ...If they do grow they will trail up the porch railing spindles. Have never tried that before so we'll see what happens. Maybe mr. froggie was out scouting for a home. He's certainly welcome to stay. Will be thinking up a name for him if he does. Happy Holiday to all. Pics follow. Luv, Alice
That was the most heart rendering funeral I have ever been to. The main street ...Samoset Street...where the cemetary is ....was lined with motorcycle police from all over the state of Ma. and other nearby states. Hundreds. I tried to take some discreet pics but got a lot of my feet. Maybe I can upload what I have later. The whole of Plymouth's police marched in force. The family of the deceased officer and were transported in chartered busses but I didn't take pics of that part as I didn't feel it appropriate. The bikes were lined up for close to a half mile. There was a huge band of bagpipers playing all the way. I only had one kleenex in my purse as I had just changed over to a different one and didn't bother putting in a new small pack. I did a lot of nose pinching. The police were at their bikes standing at attention..we put our hands on our hearts...very touching. We heard the 21 gun salute from the cemetary and then a helicopter flew over with flashing lights. I shall not forget what went on today. He was actually being buried close to where my husband is. He was 44. Similar to one of the firemen who lost his life in that tragic fire last week. So very sad.
