Choosing your own frame of mind

I believe that it's good to take a few minutes every once in a while, take three giant steps back, and look at yourself. Try to see yourself as others see you and try to listen to yourself as others hear you.

If you spend your time whining and complaining, you will attract others who do the same thing. There are plenty of people like that out there. It is certainly true that there are many things to complain about and feel bad about. But if you let y... Read More

Life

Life   Lately it seems to have become an issue that we all be upbeat, positive and pointed in our writings.  While I admit that it would be great if that was reality; it isn’t always the case.   Speaking only for myself, Writing my own poetry always comes to me when I am distressed or sad.  I have written some of my most meaningful work when I was “down” (now, I realize, that what is meaningful to me, probably is not as important to others, but hear me out).  &nb... From Soup to Nuts

I've been thinking about this for some time now. It started when I began to think about the pantry in the house I grew up in. It was really a small room off of the kitchen as many are. It held literally everything from soup to nuts. It had the big pans and the roaster. It had baking supplies and bowls and measuring cups and untensils. There were counters where things could be set, like cooling pies, or rising bread, or any one a hundred things. Even that fruitcake I... Read More

Lily Pond

Lily Pond
It sits there, in the middle of a city -
Amid the trees and rocks
Waiting for nothing -
living and breathing from day to day.

A quiet pond - one filled with and surrounded by life.
Mallards floating on the surface
Or standing on the shore with their young ones.

Koi swimming beneath the surface -
Turtles - snapping and other - under and above
Bluegill of all sizes and ages -
And one lonely carp - swimming as if King of the Pond.

What els... Read More
