Oh my! I am so ready to get in the car and go somewhere. Now I can stay at home for a week, easily, unless I know I can't get out; then I get claustrophobic.
We have been at 33° for about 6 hours now and the roads are trying to clear but it is not warm enough to completely rid them of slick icy spots.
The ice may be beautiful to look at but it is so damaging to the trees and to the electric lines in our area. We are blessed to still have our electricity on.
And with all the ice melting there is no going for a stroll with a river running through the backyard and mushy ground everywhere. Maybe tomorrow I can run away!
Another day with almost nothing open... no schools, no banks, no local government offices, very few planes taking off and landing, etc. So we are not leaving the house. There are kids, adults, and animals outside but not for long. Everything is solid ice and not soft snow. More freezing rain in the DFW area and heading in this afternoon. I am wishing you Winter Peace for this first day of February and all month long. Starting Monday, we hope for a week of temperatures in the 60's.
I took this picture at 8:15 am. The sleet had already started falling. When I looked at about 7:30 and there was only a tiny puddle in the driveway but no white stuff.
Around 10 am we could hear the sleeting rain loudly falling on the plastic covering the plants in the backyard. This is a picture from the front where the icicles were hanging from the roof and forming on the youpon.
What a difference a couple hours make! Our total whiteout... you can't tell where the street ends and the grass starts. It is 28° at noon; 29° was high yesterday; 33° high tomorrow. About an hour after I took this, the Mail truck delivered our mail.
Wendy sent me this from Bowie. All 30 or so chickens are inside the coop. Can you see the Rooster on the top?
Is it Springtime yet? Barefoot walking in the GREEN grass! I am so ready for flowers to be blooming!
Good Monday Morning to you! We started this day at 26° feels like 16°. We will NOT be above freezing until noon on Wednesday when our high will be 35°.
We are supposed to have freezing rain and sleet for the next 3 days and then on Thursday... just rain. Are you jealous?
Now, I know a bunch of you like winter and are used to this for months on end. However... this is TEXAS! And I really do like it 80° to 90° most days.
Lots of people moved here from other states. I wonder if they know how to drive on ICE??? At 6:30 this morning, the news was reporting 18 wrecks in the last 40 minutes and that was BEFORE rush hour. They said you could easily be stuck in your car for over an hour.
Ok! I am ready to read a book now that I have my new glasses. What do you think? Do they make me look younger?
Do you have a good book you just finished that you might like to share or recommend?
Let me show you my favorite part in the book I just finished. I laughed and laughed at this part.
Then I started looking for another good book by the same author and got so tired that I just closed my eyes for a minute.
Oh, who am I kidding? When I read I just seem to fall asleep and dream. Now where was I? Time to get up and go do something exciting. Where is that ball of yarn?
As you can tell my birds are much happier! We didn't get any snow at our house. There was snow or snow flakes around the area and we ended up with about 1" of much needed rain. The birds are flying high and enjoying the sunshine. I hope you share your smile with those you encounter today and every day.
I have been a terrible Bird mama! One I don't like going outside when it is cold or a cold wind is blowing. Two I don't like going outside when it is dark by the time I get home from working (3 months). Three it has been so dry here again and with the hose rolled up and the faucet winterized the birdbaths were completely dry. Bad, bad, bad Bird Mama! They should now be much happier with water to drink and warmer temperatures for a few days. But Old Man Winter is on the way again. Come on Spring!
It is 42° this morning and we are getting a much needed rain. Our temperatures are supposed to drop and in our area we have a slight chance for snow flurries. However, the pictures are from our best friends for nearly 50 years, Julie and Tommy, in Lubbock. January 2, 9, and 15, they sent us pictures and videos of the Tumbleweeds that blew into their yard. Twice they had to pay the yardman to haul them off. I can only imagine the seeds that they dropped and what their spring yards will look like this year. Today they got snow in Lubbock. It made some unique and beautiful pictures... as long as it is NOT near our home! Enjoy your day and share your smile, no matter the weather.
Have you ever tried to teach an old dog some new tricks? As you can tell, we aren't having too much luck. Our groomer just up and left the country! So we took all four "4" of our girls to a new place and a new business that started a couple of months ago, Elms Grooming, in Royse City. They do have lots of years of experience and were wonderful to all our girls who came out with beautiful grinded nails and a sparkly scarf.
Yesterday we left home at about 10 am. Picked Wayne, my son, up at the airport just after 11. Then we went to two of the three of Michelle's, our granddaughter's, basketball games. They won the 8 am game and the 11:30 game but lost the championship game. We got to see our other granddaughter, Nicole, before she had to meet her class at school as they are doing the background changes for the play, The Addams Family. We had a wonderful lunch (all 7 of us) at Subway. We were back home by 5:15.
I came home with over 170 pictures from Wayne that he took while he was in Israel and over 25 videos from two of Michelle's basketball games. Also the most wonderful memories of a fun day.
Well, hello there! What are you doing today? Why are you hiding? Don't you know it is Friday? You should be jumping for joy! I know it is hard to concentrate but the weekend is almost here. Let's go do something fun.
What makes you tired? Does staring at the computer, the phone, the pad make you tired? Does a good workout make you tired (ok, I have no pictures of that)? Do you seem more tired after a day of doing nothing? When you see or hear someone YAWN, do you yawn too? I can just look at that picture and it causes me to yawn. Some days are just lazy days! I am thankful that some days are NOT!
We are still starting each day in the 60's and I like it but this morning is overcast and dreary. Sunshine, where are you? The sunshine makes me smile. So do you! Thanks for being in my life!
Winter, one good thing about winter is filling the freezer with lots of meat. Oh how I miss venison!
Another good thing is baking cookies... just to warm up the house. Oh how I like a nice warm house and HUGS!
OK... that is just NOT happening. I don't even want to go outside in the winter. However, we are 68 this morning and cloudy. We had terrible winds for a couple of days. Friends in Lubbock have Tumbleweeds piled up for the second time over 7' high in their yard. I know that winter is not completely over in Texas so I am off to make some tea or hot chocolate. Hope you are enjoying Winter!
Good Morning sweet friend. Hope all in well in your corner of the world. We have lots of snow. Hope it makes up for the rain we never got this past year.
