Oh, Great Spirit, whose breathe gives life to all the world, whose voice I hear in the winds; I come to you as one of your many children. Hear me, I am weak and small. I need your strength and your wisdom. Teach me the lessons You have hidden under every leaf and rock. Make me strong. Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy: MYSELF. Let me walk in beauty and ever behold the red an purple sunset. And when the setting sunset fades, may I come to You with clean hands, straight eyes, and no shame.

You Are
You are strong . . . .
when you take your grief and teach it to smile.
You are brave . . . .
when you overcome your fear and help others to do the same.
You are happy . . . .
when you see a flower and give it your blessing.
You are loving . . . .
when your own pain does not blind you to the pain of others.
You are wise . . . .
when you know the limits of your wisdom.
You are true . . . .
when you admit, there are times you fool yourself.
You are alive . . . .
when tomorrow's hope means more to you than yesterday's mistake.
You are growing . . . .
when you know what you are but not what you will become.
You are free . . . .
when you are in control of yourself and do not wish to control others.
You are honourable . . . .
when you find your honour is to honour others.
You are generous . . . .
when you can take as sweetly as you can give.
You are humble . . . .
when you do not know how humble you are.
You are thoughtful . . . .
when you see me just as I am and treat me just as you are.
You are merciful . . . .
when you forgive in others the faults, you condemn in yourself.
You are beautiful . . . .
when you don't need a mirror to tell you.
You are rich . . . .
when you never need more than what you have.
You are you . . . .
when you are at peace with who you are not.

I am a Commercial Painting & Surface Finishing Contractor and a color & design specialist (paint, paper, faux, stencil, murals, floor decorating, etc). And I have a part-time job as a virtual call taker for a national call taking center. [there are several - the best source is womenforhire.com then click on "work from home."

We have always been a crafty family. I started working in desk jobs, but I have always been fascinated with old houses & restoring them since I was a little kid. I wanted my first house to be a fixer upper to turn into a Bed & Breakfast. I also have 25 years experience, kitchen prep, in restaurant & catering. I built new, a little "Cape Cod" house in the woods, & never got my Bed & breakfast. But in the mean time I felt the best way to learn to restore houses was to work as an apprentice for the sub contractors in the industry. Now, I do all surface coatings & finishings, minor repairs, staining, papering, stenciling, decorative plastering, Faux finish, murals, floor painting, minor electrical, & minor plumbing.

The second floor of my house I completed myself. It was already rough wired & plumbed, & windows roughed in. I insulated it myself, then the drywallers did the drywall. I installed the doors, floors, casings, outlets, lighting, toilet, vanity, & old fashioned footed bath tub. I had friends help me winch the tub up the stairs. Then I refinished it, & installed it. My father helped me miter the window casings. He designs & builds furniture, & the only electrical saw I have is a hand held rotary saw. I did all the rest myself alone. I hauled the wide-pine ship-lap floor boards through the upstairs window, one at a time. I miscalculated & had a lot of boards left over so I designed & made shutters for the house, I have 11 windows. I just fell in love with finish work, & wasn't happy doing any other job. And, I have done a lot, a lot, a lot of jobs.

Painting is a learned craft just like any other job in this world. It just takes practice, practice, practice. All my guys, I tell them, "I don't care if you are on one window the whole 8hr long day, as long as it is perfect... speed comes with time. As long as you concentrate on making each stroke perfectly... all of a sudden you are automatically going to pick up speed. If you concentrate on speed you will never acquire a skill nor an aptitude. It just can not happen." And I didn't care if the person had 20 years experience. I worked along side each & every one of them & offering tips, to become a better painter. They all thanked me, & told others... if you go to work for The Painter's Touch, you will learn to be a good Painter. When I am too old to do the work, I will dreadfully miss it.

I do other crafts as well. I had a booth at the Deerfield Fair for 13 years, selling my crafts. I made things all year long, entered some in the judging at the fair (always got a blue ribbon & once almost got "Best OF Fair", Oh, well) & sold the rest from my booth. I love to do Early American Primitive Painting (AKA Tole Painting), & I don't have much space in the house, so I painted the doors do the kitchen cupboards. So, I have an art gallery in the kitchen. And am painting the 4 seasons on the risers of the stairs from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor. Up at the top is asleep midnight midwinter. Then Spring then Summer to down at the bottom is asleep midnight late fall. There are 3 risers for each season. There are 13 risers, but I am leaving the very bottom one blank.

MY BOOK:
I was born in Boston in 1950...lived there on Summer St?...(or was it Winter St?) one year, then moved to Merritt Ave, Braintree. It was a brand new street of 9-10 small house lots down each side of it, and it sloped down to a woods & creepy peat bog beyond. Just a few houses, at the top of the hill, had been built. We were about 4 houses down...white picket fence down 1 side & across the front somewhat...& a waist high barberry hedge the rest of the way across the front & down the other side...& down the backyard... the back of which was open to the "deep enchanted woods." A driveway was down the right side circling to the garage, that was under the house in the back. Two flowering crab apples took up the front yard on either side of the flagstone walkway leading to the typical Grey Cape. On the left of the house, the front yard was separated from the back yard, by a white picket fence with, a flag stone path, winding down & through a wooden arch, covered in climbing roses. In the center of the arch, nestled in the rose-twines, was a bluebird house. (loved watching those bluebirds)
The back yard, though tiny, had a fieldstone fireplace (lots of scrumptious cookouts from that fireplace), & was shaded by a huge Catalpa tree in the back corner, & an apple by the turnaround at the driveway. Set back, and arranged along the edge of the driveway turnaround was a wooden sand box, then a swing set, then a wooden double love seat swing (facing each other with the platform in between). And...my father & mother created it all with their own 2 hands...my brother & I helped where we could.
When we moved there the rest of the houses still had to be built. My mother would put me in the front of the yard in a playpen, & I would watch the trucks going up & down hauling dirt & whatever. Somehow I learned if I did the "arm pulling thing" the trucks would blow their air horns. The few neighbors that were there (mostly empty-nesters) got fed up. The constant rumbling of trucks was annoying enough, so I was banished to the back yard; but not before embedding a love for the building industry.
My 5 year old brother (Russell) had to have his appendix out, (in those days they cut you almost all the way across the stomach to do an appendectomy) the very day he got home from the hospital, my mother found him, like a monkey, swinging & hanging from the branches of the back yard apple tree.
Every summer holiday, and some weekends in between, the entire street got together to go to Nantasket, Salisbury, or Revere Beach. Then we all gathered (mostly at our house because of the stone fireplace) for an evening BBQ. Week days were spent with all the kids playing in each others back yards, and all over the (secluded dead-end) street. The moms all got together for morning coffee at each others kitchens, which was good to have a panel of "Dr. Moms", because at least one of us kids, randomly, would get a hole poked in them by one thing or another (dropping heavy toys down the laundry chute while another watched at the bottom... needing stitches & almost loosing an eye; or tug-a-war with the metal sprinkler and the winner getting slammed in the head when the other let go... needing stitches & almost loosing an eye;...Ooo....Ooo...the time we were building a tree-house in the "enchanted woods" & Jackie Rodgers was hammering, and dropped the hammer claw first, on my head... almost losing a piece of brain). Man,...we had some "GREATEST" times.
Yes...yes...yes...it was a cross between "Donna Reed" & "Wisteria Lane". (Stuff happened...but the housewives weren't desperate...It really was more like "Leave it to Beaver")

(to be continued....)

I Want To Thank You Again, Thank You Poem for Friends
To me you're like an angel, sent by God above,
To cleanse my soul of sadness, and fill it with love.
You are my inspiration and I want to thank you,
For without you, I don't know what I would do.
You've changed my life around,
And turned my frown upside down.
You have showed me the way,
So that I will never stray.
For this I want to thank you again,
For staying close by and being a friend.
And to end this off I just wanted to say,
That if you need a friend,
I'll be there till the very end.
Thank you GingerSnap

I DO BELIEVE FOOD IS MEDICINE...
I decided in high school to never take pharmaceuticals, and that takes a lot of prevention. So I have been a student of so many of the cooperative Doctors. Dr's Andy Weil, Deepak Chopra, Fehrman, Mercola, Christianne Northrup, etc.... and now Dr. Oz. I tape him every day & transcribe to a journal, what pertaines to women 62+ (or my necessities). I follow cooperative Eastern Medicine. I do believe, to the core of my existence, that food, definitely is medicine, and the first resort for any malady; and the first line of defence for preventing any & all diseases. I have only had to take pharmaceuticals 3 times since high school; penicillin twice for impacted wisdom teeth, then Prednisone & Acyclovir for the Bell's Palsy I came down with for Thanksgiving 2012. I went on line & faithfully did everything recommended to do & eat, & what not to do & eat. It has been all gone now since Christmas 2012, & according to my traditional Doctor, in record time. My Holistic doctor recently retired. We have an Ayurveda practitioner (husband/wife team) in my area, who is a Chiropractor & Holistic Doctor. I plan on checking them out. I feel it is good to do & take & eat what is holistic, but it is far more important to not do & take & eat what shouldn't be. I believe (through personal experience) the bad does cancels the good, never the other way around. So, as long as I am a healthy 60 something plus, feeling & acting like a 40 something.... I am sticking to, and gently recommending to others, what works for me, AND so many others; Super-foods & Ayurvedic & Holistic & Cooperative & Dr Oz, et al, as my first line of defense and offense. I have had debilitating pain from deteriorating joints. So, I am so thankful for the new technology in the modern amalgamation of East/West medicine & prevention; and the accessible teaching resources of television; PBS & all the doctor shows & the new food shows... I am turning into a fanatic when it comes to nutrition & health... Money is tight, I am 62, and I refuse to let my aging body restrict my fun and abilities, and I love to eat tooooo much... and I am more than satisfyingly creative with the good & "Super Foods", I am trying to restrict myself to... and... I prefer them. Who knew!!! We are so lucky here in the 21st century.

“...He (Trump) represents the greatest threat to American democracy since the Second World War. He is so fundamentally un-American...” — Ken Burns on Donald Trump, 2016 Variety Interview

I have never in my professional life ever spoken out in this way. I certainly have my own opinions and have a yard sign at elections and make sure I vote. But I spoke out because he represents the greatest threat to American democracy since the Second World War. He is so fundamentally un-American, and not only because he is unqualified, but because he is mentally unsuited. He represents a kind of strong man, narcissistic thing that represents the potential death of the Republic. All of my films are about the United States and all of them are about trying to understand how it works and how it doesn’t work, and I just felt compelled t
to speak out.

The above quote is by award-winning filmmaker and documentarian Ken Burns. Millions have enjoyed his many acclaimed films on PBS. Some of those documentaries include The Civil War, The Central Park Five, The Roosevelts, The Vietnam War, College Behind Bars, Jazz, , Baseball, Country Music, Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony and Unforgivable Blackness. To date, Burns, 66, has made over 30 historical films/documentaries.

In a Variety interview in 2016, Ken Burns discussed a work-in-progress called, “Defying the Nazis.” During the discussion, Burns was asked by Variety writer Brett Lang why he had become so outspoken about Donald Trump, who had not yet been elected president. Here are some excerpts from that interview with foreboding accuracy by Burns as to what would happen if Trump took office.

Why have you been so publicly opposed to Donald Trump?

I have never in my professional life ever spoken out in this way. I certainly have my own opinions and have a yard sign at elections and make sure I vote. But I spoke out because he represents the greatest threat to American democracy since the Second World War. He is so fundamentally un-American, and not only because he is unqualified, but because he is mentally unsuited. He represents a kind of strong man, narcissistic thing that represents the potential death of the Republic. All of my films are about the United States and all of them are about trying to understand how it works and how it doesn’t work, and I just felt compelled to speak out".

While tracing the Vietnam War, Burns said he has heard many tawdry discussions on tape by Johnson and Nixon, forgetting they were being recorded. But Burns says "those tapes were nothing compared to the extreme vulgarity of Donald Trump".

He has tapped a dark unconscious, in which it is easier to vilify the other than to see what you share in common. It’s easier to be afraid than to welcome change. It’s always been there. We had a civil war, you know. We killed 750,000 of ourselves over this issue. He’s appealing to that in the most venal and vulgar ways.

"There’s no one who has occupied the presidency of the United States like that. This is coming from a person who has just finished a ten-part series on the Vietnam War, so I have been listening for years to Johnson and Nixon on tapes that they forgot were being recorded, and the vulgarity there is pretty extreme, but nothing compares to the vulgarity of this man".

Burns refers the time when Trump took out a full-page ad asking for the death penalty to be given to five innocent children, the “Central Park Five,” who were accused of a heinous crime, from which they were later fully exonerated".

"My daughter and my son-in-law and I made a film about the Central Park Five. He took out full page ads asking for the death penalty to be brought back and applied to five innocent children and on Friday he doubled down on that. It’s only the sex tape that’s kept that relatively quiet, but I was very impressed by Sen. McCain who finally disavowed Trump and not only mentioned the completely off-the-rails sex tape, but also the Central Park Five as one of the reasons. He had the trifecta last Friday because he also said while being endorsed by border control folks that the Obama administration under the direction of Hillary Clinton was letting in immigrants so they could vote against him. This is the greatest country on earth, and one of the many reasons is because we have a smooth transition of power. He’s set himself up to continue to roil that dark unconscious that he has tapped into for his base. The fact that he could say the things he said about women, and that his adoring masses are not even flinching at that, is Hitler-esque. I refer you to Michiko Kakutani’s review of the Hitler biography two weeks ago in the Times, in which she didn’t mention the contemporary situation, she just put the bullet points of Hitler’s rise and every single one of them was exactly what Trump has done".

"When you talk about having extra-judicial, threatening rivals with jail. You can call it fascistic or you can call it dictatorial. You can call it monomaniacal or imperial. Whatever you want to say, this is not the way that our country works".

I said this at the time of the Access Hollywood tape. I said it again when he shit on the gold star family whose son sacrificed himself to save his men, I said it when he demeaned that disabled man, I said it when he loomed behind Hilary during the debates — everyone told me I was over-reacting and that he would “never be elected” and that comparing him to Hitler was naïve and even stupid.

But it wasn’t. And it isn’t. He is the most dangerous and vile man on the planet. Everyone in America should read Hannah Arendt’s “Origins of Totalitarianism” (I even reordered it and read it again a couple of years ago) as well as MacLean’s “Democracy in Chains”. In fact, both should be required reading for every high school student in the country.

What he is doing is laying the ground work for much, much worse to come and those who do not think so are the ones who are naïve. It only took a few years for Hitler’s demeaning of Jews as “vermin” to translate into death factories, something that so many seem to have forgotten, even though our parents and grandparents fought and died to stop it — how could we forget? My friends started to really pay attention when the child concentration camps began. Now they are echoing what I said in 2016.

Trump is a monster. And this is not going to end well.

I truly hoped that our generation (and all the ones that have come after us) would be spared this horrendous history lesson, but it seems that every 80 to 100 years the ugliness and horror raises its hydra head again….

This is so scary because it echoes my worst nightmares.

The dark subconscious, yes! That’s the thing. It’s always there, there’s an underbelly to America, in fact one could argue that evil is always afoot in the world, that we ourselves have demons, impulses that we normally keep well under control, which normally we’d NEVER let loose.

When Trump started ranting about “political correctness” and of course his obscene mischaracterizations and stereotypes about Mexicans, immigrants, Muslims, women, Jews, Democrats, the press, etc, THIS is what he let loose: that fear of the other, the anger, the resentment, the rage — we know it isn’t right to even think like that because that way lies the road to perdition. We know this started the Civil War. Extreme “othering,” dehumanizing, allows us to enslave people, to beat and torment them.

When we dehumanize people we can exterminate them. We can commit a Shoah.

Now that genie is out of the bottle.

Did Trump do this on purpose or has he merely unleashed his abominable id upon the world because he could? Has he planned this? Does he have supporters we can’t see?

In all of American history people this awful haven’t risen to the ranks of POTUS until now.

HRC’s “Stronger Together” campaign turned out to be the exact wrong thing in the moment, though I thought it was beautiful. It showed America, the America we are and are becoming, and unfortunately America that includes women, people of color, religious minorities, people in hijab, people in wheelchairs, immigrants with their Constitutions, that is the America that terrifies Trump supporters.

The only thing that makes me feel better is looking at pictures of the House. Yes, yes, yes.
Look at pictures of the House.
That’s our answer.

TRUMP'S SS UNIFORMS

“45” IS BLATANTLY & BRAZENLY CREATING A GESTAPO?!?!?!?! I remember back in 2016, several of the women who were given a tour of Trump Tower and unfortunatelly ended up in the bedroom, most stated that they found it disturbing that the book ”Mein Kampf” was on the bed side table. I have recognized, that “45” has been using many of the teachings of Hitler. My ancestors were murdered by Hitler. That Impeachment Sham, has empowered “45” far beyond what the Repubs can handle. “45” is NOW OUT OF CONTROL!!!!  Creating the seed of Gestapo & SS through uniforms is beyond tolerance, and the Repubs are condoning it & inciting him to ramp up the “Dictatorship” endeavour, of “45”. This man in the White House is beyond redemption, in any way, shape, or form. He is already ramping up his agenda to do as much hideous (and in most cases PERMANENT) damage and destruction and DEATH as he possibly can stuff, into the next months until the swearing in, of 2021. No one has terrified me as much as this horrible, evil, satanic beast who is defiling our precious White House; and has a hideous RESOLVE to do as much permanent  destruction to this United States of America and all the EARTH planet, as he can stuff into his horrible reign of terror. Republicans, also, MUST be held accountable for the dissolving of our military, the three branches of checks and balances, and the destruction and dissolvement of the very “U. S. Constitution” itself; and sending WORLD stability into chaos and hatred and intolerance and deadly resolve.
But… there is no one, it seems, to willingly be the hero and stop this satanic beast, before he can fill his heinous resolve, to destroy everything beautiful and good and innocent, before him.

When life is getting you down, and you need a little hope.
Look deep down inside yourself, and you'll find the way to cope.

When life is getting you down, and you need a little love.
Go to the person whom you are the closest, as the rest they are above.

When life is getting you down, and all you need is a laugh.
Find the friend that makes you smile, they may even be your staff.

When life is getting you down, don't allow it so.
Change the way you think of life, and life will be better, you know.

When life is getting you down, don't sit and mope
Take action and always have hope.

When life is getting you down, take time to pray
Don't allow yourself to frown God will help you see the blessings of the day.

Thoughts on Getting Older:
Kids today don't know how easy they have it! When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel!

Ate a salad for dinner... Mostly croutons and tomatoes. Really just one big, round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE! It was a Pizza!!

I may no longer be that funny, or athletic, or good looking, or smart, or talented... I forgot where I was going with this!

I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day!

For those wondering if getting walloped by both Harvey and Irma, with half the country on fire, will persuade Republicans to re-think climate change denial, Naomi Klein argues, "no, don’t count on it." It goes back to the old Upton Sinclair adage: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it." (Was Upton Sinclair, right?)

***** D O N A L D __ T R U M P *****
The irony of Trump's bullying is that it threatens to make him impotent. If international allies decide there's simply no point in negotiating with Trump—given that he both lies during the interactions and can't be counted on to uphold whatever he agrees to in those conversations anyway—they will certainly ignore him. That which can be negotiated with individual states, will be negotiated with individual states, and that which can't be will simply be placed on hold in the hopes that the United States will at some future point have a leader who is not mentally ill.
Thank you all you world leaders for your understanding & patience... we will be back to normal soon.

"The president and his men are incapable of feeling shame about shameful things. It is the banality of this corruption that makes it so appalling". (Michael Gerson) In the realm of political ethics, voters last year did not prioritize character in sufficient numbers. Now we are seeing the result. “In a sort of ghastly simplicity, we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.” (C. S. Lewis)

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?
Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.
