Helping with masks
Posted On 03/21/2020 14:13:42 by Buffalogal

Just thought I would post a little blog here about how some are busy trying to help others. One of my daughters is a passionate sewer, often designs and makes her own clothes, and is in a group that usually meets every week.

Of course that's not possible now. Another lady in the sewing group is a nurse in a hospital and mentioned in a telephone call, how they are so seriously in need of masks.

My daughter has plenty of fabric so she and my son-in-law designed a mask pattern with tiny wires to fit over the ears, seams with thin elastic to fit around the face, somewhat rubberized outside, breathable fabric inside, etc. She is busy now, sewing pleats and shaping the masks to be donated to the hospital 75 at a time..

We all try to do something to carry us forward through this dire virus situation and for some seniors like myself, it might be nothing more than making a call to friends shut up in their homes to check on them and see how they are. I know how much I welcome them myself.

Yes indeed, bless them all, so many we don't even know about.

A kind neighbor just went to the supermarket and got some vegetables for me. I am in the "most at risk" category and cannot go to any place so thankful for good friends and neighbors.

How wonderful.  I have seen news reports about what people are doing to try and help in whatever way they can and I think that is so great.  All we can do is what we can do so I think everyone has a  part to play.  God bless your daughter and all who are finding ways to help.

What a great idea, and to those who still have a sewing machine, I have a feeling that there is still a lot of material stashed away in the "hall closet". Who says that we have to be bored during our self-imposed "stay home"!

Also, thanks to Altara for including the link to the instructions on how to make a mask. I will be sharing it with friends who are not here on The Hill.
