SNOWBIRDS in ARIZONA
Posted On 11/23/2008 22:15:10 by redhatqueen

I just had to share this little tidbit of news ....

I always believed it a privilege to be a "Snowbirds" = one works hard all their life so that when they retire they can enjoy the good life and travel south to warmer climates such as Arizona!

Perhaps we are not appreciated and not respected or totally misunderstood!?!?!??!

The news here in Phoenix claims that with all the Snowbirds the accidents increase. Snowbirds are the cause.... really?

There are so many negative comments this year about SNOWBIRDS - but I assume they forget about the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS the Snowbirds our into their struggling economy.

The USA is on the verge of a recession... so one would think they would welcome Snowbirds with opoen arms.

Well this week the local golf course send out a directive. Any employee who refers to a "winter resident" as a Snowbird - WILL BE FIRED.

Can they do that?

I am proud (and very thankful) that we are Snowbirds... although it may very well be the last winter we can afford to be a Snowbird.

My friends too take great pride in calling themselves "snowbirds". The golf course obviously knows who is buttering their bread. That is almost funny if it were not do divisive.

"Snowbirds" are a backbone of the AZ economy, as you noted.  I found this article in an AZ online newspaper:

So you really ARE appreciated, if not by the few rude folks you've happened to run into.  Seems to me their (those rude ones) ignorance is hanging out.

So have fun down there, enjoy the warmth, and I'm hoping we can partake of some of that sun and fun come February!

I've always felt like "snowbird" was meant as an insult when I was visiting in Arizona.  Everything bad is blamed on them.  I think the golf course owner thought he was doing something nice for visitors.

But you're right.  Snowbirds add so much to the economy, especially now.  I remember growing up in a military family and living in places where the local towns didn't want the military there.  Then the bases closed and the towns dried up.  Be careful what you wish for, huh....
