Dangerous ground
Posted On 06/25/2009 11:20:14 by grammy210

I realize I may be treading dangerous ground here, and I sure don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

I was just deleting old comments from my page, I try to keep it down to 6/8 comments showing.  It does tend to get away from me.

I'm wondering if you go back and try to read your comments, only to find that the person sending the comment has taken the picture off from the image hosting service they use, and so it's no longer there?

It seemed to me that some think this is a competition to see how big a size they can send and how many they can gather.  I've appreciated all the comments ever sent to me, but once read, I don't go back to reread.

I've visited the pages of others, added my comment and then and looked at the number of comments and some are into the hundreds.

What I'm trying to say here is, you and only you can delete the comments you've received.  It is a slow process, as it can only be done one by one.  I'm not aware that the administration deletes comments, bulletins are purged, but I wonder about comments.

Let me know your feelings about this, and again, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes or cause hurt feelings.  This is just the way I feel.  Ellie

Viewing 1 - 5 out of 5 Comments

Hi, and thanks for leaving me a comment.

Your page is lovely, the colours and the way you have it done so neatly.

It's a bit late for answering your blog but I have only just seen it so thought I would put my two cents worth in.

I could never let my comments get out of hand, as you say it takes so long to delete them, personally I prefer a message to a comment.

If someone deletes or moves their picture from photobucket then it will disapear from your comment and make it look awful.

As for large comments, I put in the code so that they have the scrolling box as I hate my page being too wide, so all  my pictures on my page are resized so that doesn't happen.

I don't let my comments get too long and sometimes I delete the lot and start again.

At times someone special may leave a really lovely comment and I will leave it there for longer.

What I don't like a longgggggggg comments and usually delete those first.

Ellie...

When I started on the Hill I didn't delete anyones' comments from my guestbook, but as I have been here awhile I have realized that my method of keeping track of who I should go visit via comment alerts wasn't working, as the comment alerts get purged too often.  So my alternative has been to delete the comment once it has been answered.  I know others do this as well.  I love reading the comments and do re-read them when I answer them.  If there is any information I think I will need later I save that.  Otherwise once it's answered the comment goes and that helps me keep track of who I need to go visit.  I start at the bottom of the guestbook because they have been there the longest and so I feel need my attention first, unless a newer comment warrants a quicker answer.

I think we each have to deal with this in our own way, and no one should get bent out of shape by anothers method of saving/not saving.  Whatever works for you is your business...after all, the comments are meant for YOU, and as such are like a little gift of time.  So use your time to read and enjoy, then delete if you like, or save if you like.  No worries!  After all, we're supposed to be having fun here, right?  Not stressing out!  Have a great day...

Kindest regards, Paula

P.S.  Feel free to delete after reading anything that I write!!

You left out Hill people like me. I don't save comments, I simply don't think about them. After I read the comments, they are in the guestbook and out of my thoughts, gone. I do feel pressured to be a neatnik like ya'll now, but I will fight the feeling for the time being, LOL . No time for deleting today.

I don't keep any comments after I've read them. If there's anything I want in them, I save it first, and then delete if from my page.

It's your own choice what you do with them, and I don't think stepping on anyone's toes comes into it.

I also appreciate smaller graphics, as big ones distort the page.

I do think administration cleans things up about once a month.  I delete alerts regularly.  Doesn't bother me if they take things off photobucket later since I enjoyed it when I saw it I guess. Not sure if this answers your question.
