 Monday Afternoon

By: oldblueeyes99 Date: 10/21/2013

photo afternoon.jpg  It was like a Winter's morning today. We woke up to 30 degree weather. I think I would have liked to stay under the covers a little later, but Cindy and Thea was coming around  9 and I like to have had my coffee and whatever was on the ajenda to go with it. I made some pumpkin muffins that had a cream cheese filling and a crunchy pecan topping. They are most decadent....just my style. I made 6 large ones instead of the 12 small one the recipe said the batter would make. So....I just had one muffin and my coffee...the other way I would have had 2 muffins and felt guilty because I ate the second one.. small  asWe it was...LOL...When I went to the Dr's last week and found that I had lost 4 lbs. without trying I figured I was doing something right, so may as well continue whatever it was I was doing. Don't where all my logic comes from but at my age I should care. Tomorrow my hairdresser is coming to cut my hair...seems like she was just here....for an old gal my hair sure does grow fast. The rest of the morning after Cindy and Thea left I was looking for something that wasn't where it belonged. I just couldn't find it...in my Christmas room there is a little child's chair with a teddy bear that I made a long time ago holding a small heart pillow also made by me. On the back of the chair is a mini quilt that...yes, I made that too. The heart was gone this morning and I knew it had to be in that room. Thea told me it was hiding. My cat...her royal highness...Calie spends a lot of time on the brass bed and gets a lot of hair on the quilt..not made by me...(grin) so I use one of those reversable brushes on it and got the quilt and the pillows (of course I made them..a long time ago)all spick and span. Looked under the bed thinking Thea had dropped it but not luck. I did look everywhere but to no avail, so I gave it up for a bit. A little later a thought came to me and I checked a cabinet that is above a wicker bureau that I keep an assortment of treasures. Yep, there it was just sitting on a shelf. I have no recall of putting it there. But, last night i did take down some folders and put them on the bed and after I got what I was looking for in the folders I put them back and must have put the pillow on the shelf without even thinking about what I was doing...now who else but me does such an absent minded thing?? So, all's well that ends well...I don't have to wonder where that little heart pillow went to and know that this time it wasn't Calie's fault...when I can't find something I say Calie must have taken it...I often wonder where she stashes all the missing things are that she hides...most likely just where I left them. Well, that's my story for today. Tomorrow I will try to go slower and take notice of what I do..right?    Later, Luv, Alice

OOPS
Posted On 07/15/2013 07:24:19

oops photo: oops Oops.gif  See, sometimes things work out fine. Chris came nice and early this morning (think he wants to get done early this afternoon before he fries in the heat and humidity). He looked at the hole (which by now it looked like it was getting bigger each time I looked at it) and apologized for having missed it and would have to remove the top rail and replace the railing...he doesn't know how he missed it but I'll bet it will cause him to check the rest of them before he installs them. I still think he's a nice guy and he said he gets paid by the hour so it'll just take a little longer to work on them.

Oh, No

So, it's a good thing that I was up and about around 9 a.m. I have been just taking my time in the morning because of the heat and humidity. But there was a slim chance that the guy was coming to start doing my new porch railings. The way things go around here I have become somewhat of a skeptic and only half believe what I'm told by the trade folks. Anyway, the  guy (Chris) came around 9:30...which seemed like an odd time to start a job. Nonetheless...please start no matter what time it was. He is a very nice young man whose last name is Jones (How nice could that be? Being it's my last name too) He set up his stuff and we managed a little conversation before he started and I found out he had lived on the street (court) next to mine a few years back ...but I never knew him. He got the first section going and set up the 4 posts that were part of the system. Around 4 he picked up the old railings that he had detached and put away his tools for the day. Said he should be back today...Friday. It looked so good and I know it will add to the house a lot of charm. However, I got a call from his boss saying that Chris wouldn't be back until Monday as 2 sections that were needed to be used next were not in yet. OK, I was fine with that. Sooo, this morning I was having my coffee on the porch and was admiring the one section that was up when I saw a dark round spot about 1/4 inch. Thinking it was dirt I tried wiping it off only to find out it was a hole. shaking head photo: Shaking headdisappointed shaking_head.gif. And the hole goes all the way through but not out the back. I just don't get it. He must have seen it. Now I have to stew all week-end. photo why-me.gif   photo dontknow.gif  photo pulling-hair.gif. I sure hope he finds some way to disguise it. Just once I would like things to run smoothly. Once again I'm getting out the violin...I seem to be playing that sad song a lot lately.. photo violinsmiley.gif. I think I'll go have lunch and do something constructive.....like watch a movie....LOL.  Later, Luv, Alice

Gone Fishing
Posted On 06/11/2013 14:52:22

photo Apocalypse.jpg   This is my oldest son Mark's boat. He has a Sea Captain's License and can "drive" some pretty big ships. His boss in Falmouth, Ma. owns a ferry service to the Islands...Nantucket and Martha's Vinyard. Mark has driven them on a few occasions. The name of his boat is "Apocalypse"...Don't ask me why because i don't know..he says the word apocalpse has more than one meaning. Anyhow it is just a fishing boat to him although he can take out a certain # of people fishing for $$. In the Summer he goes out on his boat on Sundays and Wednesdays and he's been taking my grand-son Trevor with him. They generally get  a bunch of fish.He seems to know just where they are. I have shown them here before when Bill was alive. Just sending a pic of Trevor's catch last Sunday. Stripped Bass. One of the guy on this trip has lobster pots out in the ocean and they stopped to unload them. Trevor loves fishing as much as his uncle Mark and his Papa (Bill) did. Alice

THE ROOF
Posted On 06/04/2013 17:23:02

Jumping for joy photo: jumping for joy jumpingforjoystickgirl.jpgI got the word yesterday afternoon that the roofers would be here tomorrow morning around 7:30. Perfect. I have been forewarned about all the noise but bring it on I'll survive as long as the job gets done. The weather promises to be perfect for at least 2 days with the threat of rain on Friday.gloomy rain photo: gloomy rain.jpg I guess I'll just have to wait and see. (Trying to be positive here). My car is parked down in the back 40 and I won't be going anywhere for the next few days. I have plenty to do however and I can even watch movies on my ipad with the earphones on. I'm going to pack the cooler with bottles of water for the guys to drink and the woods out back are handy for any other needs. I'm calling it a day now and psyche myself for the long awaited day. Later, Luv, Alice

The guys are getting together to make a plan. group of old men photo: A group of local Amish men gather near the scene of a mass shooting at a one room Amish schoolhouse in Paradise Pennsylvania Monday 02 October 2006 Police say a 32-year-old milk truck driver took about a dozen girls hostage at the school barricade 00832335.jpg

Shingle That Roof Please
Posted On 05/28/2013 15:51:03

I got up early this morning (6 a.m. ) to prepare for the roofers to start arriving. That's right no one showed until after 10. One man brought the shingles and then later on the man came with the dumpster. However, no guys came to start the roof.  Still one piece of equipment coming I would presume tomorrow. We may have showers tomorrow....then boiling hot for the next few days...wonder what my chances are of getting this roof done? When the guy with the dumpster came there was a large truck with a trailer that carries lawn cutting equipment and i mean it is a long trailer. The neighbors across from me get there lawn cut every week by this outfit. Consider that I live on the last house on a dead end street with close quarters when it comes to turning around. Envision both trucks there at the same time. The dumpster is being brought in by a large flatbed. It was a 3 or 4 ring circus. i have to say that the dumpster guy was a heck of a driver. He had to make many turns to get it in my driveway then turn the cab around to get out into the court. The lawn guy backed up as far as he could get without plowing into a neighbor's son's truck that is parked out back. I did a lot of head shaking and hoped for the best. Joe, my neighbor, said he hoped they both wouldn't arrive at the same time , but, it happened anyway. I said to him "well, those guys will have something to talk abut at the supper table tonite". Thing is what will happen when the dumpster has to be picked up?? We may be o.k. as long as it isn't on Tuesday...that's when Joe gets his lawn cut again...there may be a part 2 to this tale.

Memorial Day 2013
Posted On 05/25/2013 08:22:04

photo MemorialDay.gifIt is so remarkable to think that the last week in May is coming upon us. I distinctly remember the first of May thinking ahhh at last some nice warm days will be right around the corner. Now that's not happening any place that I know of. The weather all across the country has gone bazaar. The poor people in OK are the  recipients of the worst possible weather. So devastating. I cannot in my wildest dreams know how disastrous their lives have become. God Bless All who were affected by those horrifying tornadoes. As for here on the east coast, the weather is still unsettling as far as "nicer" weather being just around the corner. I am still in my sweat suits for crying out loud. Take this morning for instance...it has been raining all night and everything outside is wet and yucky. I DO have on my sweats as i WILL NOT turn on the furnace. OK, so we had a couple of nice days but they were just a tease. Due to the dampness  my "Arthur-itis" has been at it's worse and I finally had to remove my beautiful rings before they had to be cut off. I did, however, keep on my family ring....there is still a little movement there. I am scheduled to have a new roof put on next week and so far there is a chance of there being no rain after Sunday until the end of the week...however, here in New England there is an old saying that goes " if you don't like the weather just wait a minute" It's true it can change at the drop of that proverbial hat. Still and all for all of my ranting I would not change the fact that we have 4 seasons...more of one than another maybe but nothing as life threatening as some of our country have. Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful week-end even if it means instead of a traditional cookout it may be a "cook out/eat in " mishap.    ♥ ♥ ♥
