What Is Hanukkah and What Does It Mean For Us?
Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, comes from the interocannonical book, Maccabees. Antiochus Epiphanes (a forerunner of the antichrist mentioned in Daniel), endeavored to Hellenize the Jews (force the Jews to adopt pagan/Greek ways).

Many unbelieving Jews did adopt the Greek ways, but Hanukkah is the story of how a devote family, the Maccabees, who led the revolt against Antiochus. By penalty of death Antiochus prohibited the worship of Yahweh and keeping of His commandments. In addition, Antiochus had a pig sacrificed on the altar and erected a statue of Zeus in the Temple. Antiochus became known as the “abomination of desolation” (Daniel)

The Maccabees drove out the pagan army and cleansed the Temple for the restoration of worship. They held an eight-day festival to rededicate the temple. It is called Hanukkah today.

The foreshadowing of the antichrist should be even more important today as we move toward the last days. First, the antichrist will also prohibit keeping of the Yahweh’s commandments and worshiping on His Appointed Days. This won’t necessarily be seen as a problem, as the church has forgotten the Appointed Days and integrated pagan worship with the worship of Yahweh. Like the Maccabees, there will be a remnant, who love Yahweh and will not follow pagan ways and decrees.

“Raising his voice, Mattathias retorted, 'Even if every nation living in the king's dominions obeys him, each forsaking its ancestral religion to conform to his (pagan) decrees. I, my sons and my brothers will still follow the covenant of our ancestors." As for the king's orders, we will not follow them: we shall not swerve from our own religion either to right or to left.' Then Mattathias went through the town, shouting at the top of his voice, 'Let everyone who has any zeal for the Law and takes his stand on the covenant come out and follow me.” 1 Maccabees

12 Yeshua spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light which gives life.” John 8:12 CJB

22 It was now winter, and Yeshua was in Jerusalem at the time of Hanukkah, the Festival of Dedication. 23 He was in the Temple, walking through the section known as Solomon’s Colonnade. John 10:22
