Fall's Arrival
Posted On 08/29/2008 20:18:50

A very large cicada sat on the other side of my window pane, waiting to sing his song before passing on to only a shell of what was....for now, it gave me a chance to view him up close.

Night fell and the air filled with sounds of the impending Fall.  Cicadas, crickets and frogs all chiming in to create a chorus of music which only comes at this time of year.  The smell of chimney smoke filled my nostrils as I imagined someone's fire in a fireplace..was it for ambiance or for some warmth on a chilly night.

The still cool air brought back memories as I gazed upward toward a clear night sky, filled with bright stars.  In my childhood I looked at those same stars, that same Milky Way.  Only now it seemed brighter, nearer as I thought about what lay beyond.

Life is like our seasons.  Spring has new life, summer has growth and as fall approaches, our years are waning toward the cold of winter, of death itself.

The lone cicada reminded me once more of the fall of my life and gives me thought of my winter.  For now, I will enjoy the smell of smoke, the songs of the night and the hope of another tomorrow.  Tomorrows filled with bright colored leaves and the singing of the yellow finch as it feeds on seeds in my garden.  And monarch butterflies as they flit from milkweed to milkweed.

Winter will come soon enough but for now, I'll enjoy the arrival of Fall.

NOTHing
Posted On 04/04/2008 09:59:27

While sitting at my computer, deeply engrossed in the perusal of my latest exciting venture through Cloudeight, NotOverTheHill, my husband wandered into my computer room and sat on the sofa as he so often does.   He said "Can I talk?"  He knows I don't like to be interruped when I'm doing email being I need all the concentration I can muster;  at my age, multi-tasking is not easy.

I said "Sure, what's up?"  He simply wanted to know what I was doing.  So I said "I'm doing NOTHing".  Now that sort of ticked him off as he could see that I, in his opinion, was doing something!  So he says "I know you aren't doing "nothing" because your fingers are flying over the keyboard and your mouse is moving".  I answered, "Yes, like I said, I'm doing NOTHing".

Just a bit more flusterd, he  says how can I be doing nothing if I'm actually doing something!  I agreed and that aggitated him a bit further.  Finally, he says "Well, if you aren't going to admit you are actually doing something, I'm leaving so you can do your NOTHing and with that, he got up and walked down the hall and I thought I heard him mumble somthing about "She always did try to make SOMETHING out of NOTHING!"

Now where was I?  Oh yes, Blogs.
