Do you like one color lights or do you put tri colored lights on?

Do you have a theme each year?

Do you put up more than one tree?

We had a live tree every year when my children were growing up. Now I don't have a tree at all, because there's nobody else here. My children have their own homes and do their own things. We used to have coloured lights on our only tree, which was always located in our living room. I never heard of such a thing as a Theme, and would have thought that Christmas WAS the theme. We used to pile all the presents under the tree, and I still have photos of some of them from around 1970. We didn't decorate anything else, apart from displaying our Christmas cards.

Oh my I am sadden by the comment you do not have a tree at all..... I hope you do be with family and friends during the holiday... A theme is big with a lot of my friends, personally I do not do the theme thing.... lol
We put gifts under the tree when the kids are home but other wise we just do not do much... Not sure why but probably because it is more to take down and put back in storage... I hope you had a good thanks giving.... Thank you for sharing your comment. Pat

I decorate two Christmas trees: I used a live tree (flocked white with snow) in the living room until three years ago, now I use an artificial tree. I have always used an artificial tree in the den. The fire place in the den is also decorated. Both trees are tall; almost reaching the ceiling.I use tricolored lights in the front and on the fireplace. All white is on the tree in the den. I have a large Christmas Village that remains up all year and lighted at Christmas. I use small artificial decorated trees that you can find in the Dollar stores in my two baths. I match each with my Christmas bath towel sets. Most houses in my neighborhood decorate outside. I put out a lot of yard

decorations: reindeer.sleigh with decorated gift boxes made of tube lights, santa and even a snow man. I am like a child in a candy store at Christmastime. It seems like it is the mood of the general public at this time of the year.

Since Arthur is beginning to visit at will, there will be a lot less decorations this year.....lol

My neighbors helped last year.

Billie

Here are my answers:

We had a live tree for a number of years.  But  for at least the last 20-25 yrs, we've had artificial ones.

We put the 'main' tree (varies from 4 ft to 6.5ft) in the living room, in front of our triple windows.

I always have one here in my computer/tv room, since I spend most of my time in here.  Many years, I've had a 4 ft one in front of the window here to the right of my desk--and a 2 or 3 ft one on the other side of the room.  This year...I'll have just a 4.5 ft tree.  I do have a cute 2 ft one, but no place to put it this year.  A couple of times, we've had a total of 5  trees:  one in the living room, a smaller one (fiber optic) on the hutch, two in my room, & one (2ft) in the main  bathroom.    The last few years, there's no room in that bathroom for one, with all of our son's things in there!

We prefer multi-colored lights.  And...I prefer the kind that have multi 'functions'.  I usually set it for 'slow twinkle'.

   We don't do any 'themes'.

And yes, my husband puts up lights outside. I usually put pictures on my page once it's all done.

One thing you didn't ask: do you use all one 'kind' of ornament, or mix them?

My husband prefers one style, in maybe 2 colors, of ornaments.  I have various styles & sizes of ornaments on mine, plus a few 'sentimental ornaments.

Thank you so much for our comment.... Wow I forgot about Fiber optic. I actually purchased one for my mom 2 yrs. ago. She really likes it, small and very easy to pack away until the next Christmas. She does not put bulbs on her tree either.
She puts her Nativity scene under the tree.

This is an interesting "survey", and here are my answers.

  • We had a live tree when the children were small, because we took them to the "forest" so that they could see where the Christmas tree came from.
  • When they were older, we had an artificial tree that was carefully packed away in the attic for the following year.
  • We no longer put up a Christmas tree because we no longer exchange Christmas gifts at our house. I do have a quilted tree that was a gift about 10 years ago, and that is in the front window of our kitchen/family room. We travel to the U.S. every other year to celebrate Christmas with our daughter and family, and when we are at home, we celebrate with our son and family who live three miles from us. The family rule is one gift for each grandchild, and that doesn't mean one BIG box with 12 items (more or less) in that one box.
  • In times past, we had white lights only, and color was added with other decorations.
  • If this is considered a theme, from the time that our children were very small, their contribution to the decorating was to assemble the Manger Scene on our coffee table. All the characters were unbreakable, and the children became very good at telling us the Christmas story, about Baby Jesus, the shepherd, the wise men, and the angels singing in the sky.
  • As already stated, we don't even put up one tree.
  • No outside decorations ... too much wind in our valley, and wild animals at night who may try to eat the decorations.
I hope others will answer these questions ... a very interesting idea.

This was so interesting... Thank you for sharing. I was so happy to see so many different traditions/ life changes... and how we adapt.. I want to say thank you so much for your posting. It was a pleasure to read...
