Happy beautiful Saturday! At least it is at my house. Can you smell the apple crisp baking? Oh my, it is delightful. Youngest daughter, Jenny, let her sisters and I know that Lidl had mums on sale for $5 and cute little fall gnomes. So I got three nice full mums and a gnome to go with my others. Fall gives me all the "feels" and I just love it so much. Darlene, it will be over a month until we start seeing leaf color. The dogwoods are always first and they are faintly beginning to turn red. I DO go in to get some things at the grocery. Things I want to pick myself like certain meats/fruits/veggies. But the bulk of my groceries I send in my order online and go pick them up. Every Thursday morning. Your ice cream sounds so good. But the coffee woulda been nice to kill some of the sweetness. My favorite ice cream is pralines and caramel. But I like rocky road, too. And, of course, plain old vanilla. It goes with everything. Including my apple crisp. hehe
Friday's here, weekend's start, Darlene :) Am doubtful, also, about red and gold leaves this year. Some are falling, but brown and solt yellow ones. I don't see color on the trees, either. Too hot this year, me thiMks:) But how many times I'm proved to be wrong about everything:) I'm just glad rain is to be had by some who are parched. Our plants do so much better going into winter having enough to drink during the Fall. Have lotsa fun and 'happy', my friend! -di
How has your Thursday been? It's a warm and sunny day at my house. I have swept off the back porch of a ton of leaves already. It's kind of never ending but it's good exercise. Especially when the weather is nice and I'm not melting as I work. Enjoy the rest of the day and have a nice evening. Darlene, we did our grocery pick up today and after lunch, I was outside a bit. As for supper, I just told Dave I have no idea what I'm fixing. How bad is that? LOL I always make out a weekly menu when I make my grocery list. Saturday nights are always take-out. I've been sewing a bit. Nothing fancy; I don't do detailed fancy things. My patience runs thin. I have made a bunch of rag pumpkins for my girls and I. Next is to make some microwaveable heat packs/ice packs. I think I am going to need to buy a mega bag of rice. I also have flaxseed and lavender buds for the packs. Anyway, I'm off to see what I need to do for supper. If it requires something that is frozen, I'll be thankful for the defrost on my microwave, won't I?
Remembering this day 22 years ago and praying that one day there will peace in our world. God bless America. And God bless us all. Darlene, cooler temps are indeed coming Thursday! I am so excited.
Harvest time for apples here, Darlene! I love them baked and fried, and how their aroma fills the house. I bet you do, too. Mmmmm lovin' that this time of year is beginning! :) *hugs* -di
In my area it is to be more like 95* but in my mind it is autumn and I'm ready for hot cider, apple crisp, and sweater weather. Inching closer to my favorite things! Have a great day whatever your weather, Darlene!
Today is a great day, do you know why? Because it's not Monday! Hehe. Sunny and hot here but so pretty to look out on. Going to hang out laundry before it gets too warm. What's happening with you? If the only thing you accomplish today is rest, make sure you do a superior job! Darlene, we did indeed do water balloons. And squirt guns. Not the super-soaker ones of today. The ones you had to constantly refill!
We ate lunch with friends one county up from us. Grilled burgers and hot dogs. Ate inside and enjoyed the ac. Had potato salad and coke slaw..onions and sliced tomatos. I ate two burger Pattie's and no bread. No potato salad either for me. I'm still eating low carb after two years. We warm back up to the mid 90's this week. Looks like next weekend mid 80's😃
And I hope you do, too. Enjoy your Sunday! Darlene, growing up in PA, we didn't have a/c in the summer either. We had the sprinkler to run through and a park nearby that has a swimming 'hole". And, living on Lake Erie, there was Presque Isle State Park. When Dave and I were dating, we went there often on hot summer days. Don't think I truly appreciated it then like I do since I no longer live there. I will miss fresh produce once summer is gone. Especially our own homegrown things. But other than that, I won't miss summer a bit. Gosh, my middle daughter even has a pool and she is over summer now, too. And she spends a LOT of time in her pool. Her big complaint, besides the humidity, is the mosquitoes and other stinging nuisances. She has had a nest of yellowjackets that her lawn guy found their nest and (hopefully!) took care of. She is allergic to bee stings and has been scared to death to mow her lawn. She's hoping now she can once again mow and feel at ease. As a kid, I can remember going barefoot all summer long. My feet were permanently brown from never wearing shoes. I stepped on a bee in some clover once and got stung but even that didn't stop me from having naked toes! Down here, fire ants are a big deal so I no longer go barefoot. We had a creek that ran through our property growing up but it wasn't swimmable unless the kid down the street dammed up a bit of a swimming hole. Otherwise it wasn't deep enough. I used to take my little brother fishing in that creek and one time we were walking through the creek and a snake swam over top of my foot. I lost my mind! LOL My brother was cracking up and here I am trying to run through the creek bc a simple garden snake went over my foot. I'm sure it was quite hilarious but NOT to me.
Welcome, September! And today's weather is a wonderful preview of what is to come. But not before Mother Nature tries to bake us again next week. For today, however, I will enjoy the sunshine, light breeze, and beautiful temperature. Have a great day where you are! Darlene, our little fish pond is a preformed one with a small waterfall. Nothing major. I love the sound of water and, when weather permits, sit on the back porch and listen to the pond. It's peaceful. Makes me momentarily forget the world around me. And don't we ALL need to forget the world sometimes?
You're so right... just as time slows to a crawl in summer, it zips past us from Sept thru Feb. First of March I reluctantly pack away my snowman collection:) Fancy your Friday & weekend, Darlene! *hugs* -di
Happy sunny, steamy Saturday. Stay cool and comfy and have FUN! Darlene, we need rain. Maybe next week, they say. As for fish, we often get a combo plate of filet of catfish and calabash shrimp.Salt and peppered. I like tartar sauce with just a smidgeon of cocktail sauce for my fish. Sometimes I buy raw shrimp (tail on and deveined) and put it in foil with butter and lemon slices and Dave puts it on the grill. SOOO GOOD. Now I'm hungry after this food chat. LOL. It's almost noon so I guess I need to think about lunch. We went out this morning to water a few things and I dug up some spearmint to (hopefully) root for my girls. They all want some so I hope it takes. It was so stifling outside it truly felt like an elephant was standing on your chest. So the rest of the day will be indoors. Oh, did I tell you my little fish pond has two new fish? There has been some hanky panky in the pond, apparently.I'm so excited!
I'm letting my hair grow out a bit now before getting a perm. The grey stuff is aggravating, lifeless, limp, thinning stuff run amok. Hope I have good luck w/it as you've had, Darlene. Wishing you a nice weekend whether or not you have "plans":) Enjoy! *hugs* -di
Merriest middle of the week to you. It is a beautiful day here and I've got laundry hanging out since the humidity isn't bad. Must take full advantage of days when the air isn't heavy with humidity. How's your Wednesday?
Happy new week! And our last full week of August. Hard to believe it's almost September but I have to say I'm very glad. Here's hoping September is kind to us and gives us a real cool down. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening. Darlene, I have one aging cat named Piper who is mean and evil. We got her from someone who was moving and couldn't take her with and we were told she was very shy. Shy would've been fine. Mean as a snake is not. She tolerates Dave and I but hates anyone else. She goes into hissing and conniptions. We think, perhaps, the people who had her either abused her and teased her mercilessly. She is not a lap cat and not one bit affectionate. Because our German Shepherd hates cats, Piper lives outside in a nice, roomy cat enclosure. She loves it out there because on one bothers her. One day I'll have a nice, sweet lap kitty again but it'll have to be when we are dogless. LOL
Cute page...so ready for Fall. August is going to be heating back up here again..so I'll be staying inside as much as I can...doing errands in the morning. Enjoy your week Darlene 😉🍁😉

Darlene, I do believe our scorching summers are just too much for sunflowers and a lot of other things. Myself, included. HAHA Things burn out so quickly here and fade fast. Of course we can plant earlier here than back home but....
Yes, I love to listen to the rain. It's so soothing. Like Mother Nature's lullaby. I also love to watch snow fall. The air is silent and so serene and it just calms my soul. Oh...and watching leaves fall in autumn. I love how they crunch under foot. I even like raking and sweeping off my porches! I'm weird, I guess.
Ha-ha-ha-ha...someone who's as pushy for summer to end as I am...yeah, I know I have a summer graphic, but see all the cool, blue water in it and the watermelon? I'm hoping it inspires Mother Nature to send some nice rain our way, as it's been hotter 'n toast around here (triple digits for three days--UGH!!) and it's scary-dry. LOVE your autumn mouse page, by the way!!
My pen pal (who lives in W. Virginia) and I were speculating on where we could move to so that we'd have spring/autumn-like weather year-round. We've decided the Irish coast is the winner. Since I'm dreaming, I'm thinking a stone cottage back and up a ways from the sea would be ideal. And since I'm having this pipe dream, a cottage garden to go with it. I am not much shakes as a gardener, I'm afraid. I have black thumbs all the way up to my armpits. My hubby grows stuff, though, and he does have one sunflower in the garden this year. It's at least 6 feet tall and still growing--shoot, it probably soaked up all that nasty hot sun we've been having and enjoyed every moment of it. UGH! I dunno about a pink sunflower. Most of what draws me to them is that cheerful bright yellow color. In spite of having cats, we do have a couple of (foolish or brave--can't decide which) squirrels that come into the yard to snitch as much birdseed from the feeders as they can get a-hold of. The deer come along and knock the seed to the ground and the squirrels and birds have a field day gobbling it all up. I haven't seen them for a couple of months. I think they are actually smart enough to head into the deep woods once it starts getting hot.
Thank goodness for air conditioners!!!
And on that note, I'll scamper away, leaving a trail of sunflower seeds for the squirrels to enjoy. See ya!
Welcome to Wednesday. A less humid day in my area so I believe I'll air dry my washing outdoors. At least I can be sure it will dry and I won't haul in hot, damp things I end up having to throw in the dryer. Such are the dilemmas of a Suzie Homemaker. LOL Enjoy your midweek and get ready to coast to the weekend. Darlene, we have tried to grow sunflowers but never have much luck. They stay puny and produce itty bitty heads. It's weird. I love them, though. The pink ones would be so nice to grow but I'm not going to try anymore. Kind of a bummer.
Mmmmm, tomatoes! Ours are getting fewer and further between but we are still getting some. Today's lunch was BLTs. It is so nasty out today with dew points in the mid 70s and feels like temps at 107*, according to my weather app for our area. . We went out a mid morning and watered everything and it honestly felt like we were standing in an oven. So the rest of the day will be indoors. Stay cool today and make it a GREAT one. Darlene, I was 18 when we got married and we honeymooned in Massachusetts. As a kid, though, my family took vacations to several New England states. I've always wanted to visit Vermont in the fall. It must be stunning! Dave and I celebrated 46 years of marriage in June. We started dating the summer before I turned 16. Three kids and 4 grandkids later, here we are.
Yes, sad about Tom Jones. We are losing many we've had around for a long time. I almost cried when Angela Lansbury died. I still watch all her reruns, Murder She Wrote. Begs to question why we have to say goodbye to so many good ones, when 'others' seem to live on and on and on. Guess it's a good thing I don't have to make those decisions, huh. Have a calm, enjoyable Sunday w/friends, Darlene:) *hugs* -di
Have a Saturday full of sunshine and smiles! Stay cool and think AUTUMN! Darlene, Maine would be lovely. Dave and I always say we want to live in Alaska or Maine. Maine would be more realistic but, even then, it isn't going to happen. My kids/grands/siblings/parents are here and I like us all being close by. When Dave and I married, we honeymooned in New England. It's so beautiful and historic up there. So yes, if you are going to Maine to vacay, I'd love to come with. Maybe we can meet the Maine Cabin Masters. Do you watch that show? We love it.
I'm so old I actually attended a Seals and Crofts concert. Summer Breeze being one of their hits and one of my favorites! Hope there's a breeze in your day! Darlene, I'd love nothing more than to tell you the heat has left our area. But, alas, there's no sign of let up. Sunday the actual temp is to be 95 with a feels-like of 105. It better think about cooling down soon; football season is right around the corner and that means fall and THAT means cooler temperatures! Come on, Mother Nature, get it together.
It's a typical summer day in the southern US. Sunny and hot but very pretty. I had taken cuttings from my purslane plant last fall and rooted them over the winter then put them in two hanging baskets this spring. They are so full and beautiful now and the bees and hummingbirds just love them. Bonus is that this plant loves the heat so does very well here. Nice to look at out my living room windows. Have a great day, Darlene.
