It's a brand new day and our final full week in July. Already! We were so fortunate to have rain yesterday and last evening. We got 2 5/8" of Nature's thirst quencher. Currently the sun is shining and everything is glistening with leftover raindrops. Enjoy this day, rain or shine. Darlene, I used to love teaberry gum so I'm sure that ice cream would be delicious. Last evening we had a scoop of vanilla ice cream with maple syrup and pecans. It was wonderful.

With hugs~

I hope you are having a good day and getting done what you set out to do, Darlene. I've got most of my Wednesday work done but for folding and putting away laundry. I bought an outdoor clothes rack for hanging things outside so I have our shirts and pants out there. The sun will surely bake them dry! As long as it doesn't bake ME, I'm good. Happy day to you!

How is your Monday coming along? Mine has been quite productive. The humidity is less today and it's actually pretty comfortable so I decided to bake a couple loaves of zucchini bread this morning, Darlene. I also made us a shrimp pasta salad for supper using fresh cut up veggies from our garden. Now I won't have to cook tonight. Or tomorrow night, for that matter.

Big hugs~

I saw Vegas' actual temp today: 110°,
and other days this week even higher.
Guess I'm thankful for where
I am:) Happy today! -di
PS: Darlene, I still wear flip-flops
everyday, except in winter when I
wear fuzzy ones. :) I'm sorry your
earlier break developed "Arthur".
I do know what that feels like. It's
in my knees, shoulders, hands, wrists,
but thankfully not my feet/ankles.
A shoulder replacement is in the
future, probably last of this year.

A pool is the place to be today. With a thermos full of iced tea, a couple of frozen Peppermint Patties in the cooler, a big straw hat, and plenty of sunscreen! Stay cool and comfy, my friend! Darlene, when we first moved to our street, it was total, peaceful country. Now the growth is expanding and we are being crowded out by a new housing development with over 400 new homes. Homes that are the proverbial cookie cutter houses. But for different colored siding, the houses are all the same. We live on a dead end street with mostly older folks. Except for the places that are rented out....there are some younger people in those. Behind our house is a pasture that used to be filled with cattle but since the farmer who owns the land died, the cows are no more. We technically live in the country but we're rapidly being suffocated by development. Since we no longer have a mortgage and don't want one, moving out of here is not in the cards. Unless we win some big money. In which case we are heading to the mountains to buy land with some kind of water (creek, river, etc) and plopping a small home on that land. See how my imagination works? LOL A girl can dream. Anyway, we have wonderful neighbors on the one side of us and we keep to ourselves so are blissfully unaware of any gossip. Our backyard is our sanctuary. Guess that was more info than you wanted to know, huh?

Have a fun and fabulous Friday! Darlene, if you lived close, I'd gladly share our cucumbers and tomatoes with you. Oh, peppers, too. Our squash isn't doing so well but I've at least harvested some for our use. You asked if I fry it: sometimes. But I've been "oven frying" lately and it's really good. I had hoped to get an abundance of zucchini to shred and freeze for baking zucchini bread but, alas, have only gotten a few small ones. Gardens are weird. Some seasons you get overrun with things and others, you're begging the plants to produce. I've been getting blackberries a few at a time and freezing them. The blueberries are done, I guess, but I check them faithfully. I get a stray one sometimes. Last year I made salsa but I'm not doing that this year. We still have some in the freezer. I think as I'm getting older, I'm running out of steam. My desire to preserve the harvest through canning has gone and I choose to freeze what I can. It's much easier. We have an old upright freezer in the garage that I use for overflow. Mostly I freeze my Christmas cookies that I start baking in November. HEHE Have a wonderful weekend and stay cool. Mid 90s here for as far as one can see. Dew points are miserable. Summer takes us to the brink of melting and then, thankfully, fall comes along and let's us breathe again.

Smiles and hugs~

It's Thursday....thankful Thursday. Today I am thankful for corn on the cob season! We love a good veggie meal once a week in the summer and tonight is the night. Going to run by the produce stand and pick up some ears of corn and have some of our homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers and squash. My mouth is already watering. Have a great day and find something to be thankful for, Darlene!

I woke up thinking today was Sunday and now I can't seem to accept that it's really Monday. LOL Maybe by the end of the day I will realize what day it truly is? Whatever day it is, just have a good one! Yes, we have both yellow squash and zucchini growing. I made oven friend squash and zuc a couple nights ago. I have made zucchini bread and hope to make at least a batch before summer's end. Love the stuff. Well, my tastebuds love it, my waistline, not so much.

Wonderful weekend to you! I've been a worker bee this morning and so has Dave. I vaccumed and mopped, trimmed the cameliia bush, and straightened up the house. Dave's been working on fixing our security camera at the front door. All fixed now. Looks like our afternoon is free of work and the rest of the day is up for grabs. How about you? What's happening at your home today, Darlene?

Hot and humid hugs~

Have a sunny, happy Thursday! Darlene, I like Gold Peak tea, too. I generally make my own, though. Dave has a pitcher of slightly sweet tea and I have a pitcher of unsweetened. Southerners make their tea very, VERY sweet and I can't drink that stuff. I learned many years ago to love unsweetened tea. I do buy Arizona Arnold Palmer tea and put a tiny bit in a glass to get a nice lemon flavor. We got to North Carolina due to a job. My dad had gotten transferred from his job in Erie to here and when Dave got laid off from his job (he was a tool and die maker) and we were about to lose his unployment benefits, we decided to come here and check out the job market. I miss "home" every single day. I grew up in HarborCreek. I miss the lake, Presque Isle, the grapes in the fall, my old friends....Home is home no matter how long you've lived in another place. Being a "Yankee" in the south was a real eye opener. Mega culture shift. We have lived here 40 years now. Dave retired from Freightliner almost 4 years ago now. Our kids and grands all live here. Dave's mom is in a nursing home in Greensboro. My folks like across town, my sister lives in town, and my brother lives in SC. I'd go back home to PA in a minute if I could take all my loved ones with. I like it here, don't get me wrong. I really do. But I just miss HOME!

Many hugs~

Happy rainy, soggy, sunless Sunday! So what did I do? I made lasagna. It is resting in the frig until suppertime. I also made a salad to go with. And washed dishes. Lots of dishes. HEHE Now my afternoon is free to watch the rain come down. Or nap. I'm leaning toward the nap! Darlene, I am not a summer person either. Give me a lifetime of autumn and I will be happy as a pig in slop. Sweating isn't my favorite activity. We will cook out burgers on the grill but, like you, we are a boring couple!

Sleepy Sunday smiles~

Darlene...

Thank you for cluing me in about the contest; I tossed my page into the winter ring so folks can have more to look at.  It's a nice way to draw folks together, I think.  You have a bright, beautiful Christmas page; I'm happy I wandered over to see it.

It's cold at the southern end of Washington state and today the wind has been pretty fierce, which makes it seem colder still.  But we have wood heat so our home is toasty warm.  Perfect for listening to Christmas music and enjoying the decorations while the season lasts.  I hope you and those you love the most have a peaceful, joy-filled, and memorable holiday.  Merry Christmas, and may the New Year be a better one for us all!

Love and Hugs,
Paula

Hi Darlene, Thanks for getting back.   I'm not on the Hill everyday but trying to keep in touch.  Lots of other good things going on in life. Golf is certainly one of them. I'm playing at least a couple times a week sometimes 3 times and I'm in a league with my 20 year old grandson. That's a blast!   Talk about age sneaking up, we just celebrated my oldest son's 50th birthday. WOW! But all is going well. Hope all is well with you and George. Catch you later!

Blessings,

Paul

Hello Paul - Nice of you to stop by.. I see that you still have your family of bears :-) Pretty soon it will be golfing weather for you.. I never golfed before - wouldn't even know how.. lol

I see that you and George are the same age.. We're all getting old.. Seems a little sad.. When I was a young woman, I thought I would never get old, but here we are.. When we're young we think that old age is so far away, but it sneaks up on a person so fast..

 God Bless You, Paul

Hello Paul - For quite awhile you weren't logged in, now I see you're back.. For awhile there I thought you had left.. Were you sick? Have you been getting any snow out your way? It's been very disappointing here.. No snow for Christmas, so NO white Christmas.. I don't think Bing Crosby would like singing I'm dreaming of a green Christmas..lol

We had a white Thanksgiving.. Got quite a bit of snow over Thanksgiving weekend, then it warmed up and rained and haven't seen much snow since.. I think you might remember I'm the snow girl..

Wanted to keep in touch with you....

  God Bless --   Darlene

Hi Darlene,  I kinda got tired of being online a lot and the Hill was the first to go.  No I haven't been sick.  We actually got snow a couple of days after Christmas and got 6 inches last night. So spent some time with the snow blower today to clean up the driveway and sidewalks.  This snow and cold weather puts a halt to my golf playing.  Yup, I am the golf guy.  Glad to hear from you and hope to catch up later.  God Bless -  Paul

01/01/2020 03:07:39

Good Morning Darlene and a "Happy New Year" to both you and your hubby.  I do hope it will be a pleasant year for you.

Yes, you're correct in thinking the day is almost over here, well, will be in another 4 1/2 hrs as it about 7.30pm here now.   No. I've not done anything special just stayed at home and spent some time this morning out in the garden then back indoors had lunch then spent a little time on  the Hill before working on a local History project that I've been updating and now I'm back on the Hill again with the TV on in the background with the Cricket being played.  I was in bed last night by 10.30pm so didn't get to watch the New Year arrive.  I think most of the Fireworks displays here  outside of major Cities were cancelled due to the Bushfire situation across the country.  There are enough burning without fireworks starting any more. I guess I could have watched the Ball drop on TV as I think it would have been shown here but I rarely have my TV on during the day so missed it.

Temps were nice today as mostly in the mid 80's.  Much cooler than what they have been this past week as all days were 100+. Mind you we are in our Summer months now so must expect that.

Your'e Dinner out sounded nice. I like Pasta & cheese. Ironically I made myself some Spaghetti in a tomatoe and cheese sauce with Ham for my Dinner tonight and have enough left over for another meal tomorrow.

Well, I wonder what the New Year has in store for us?  It's probably just as well that we don't know.

Do you make any New Year resolutions?   I don't, because circumstances beyond our controll usually makes it too hard to keep them.

Love your page its such a pretty scene and colour:-)

I do wish you both a happy, Healthy, peaceful and safe year.  Hugs and take vare. Pat.
