Inconvenient incident is a good experience.
Posted On 01/15/2015 09:05:52 by dabbymac

On January 2 of this year, I visited my local chain drug store in a strip mall.  I spent time checking out the Christmas left overs, looked over some lipsticks and nail polish and finally took my non-glamorous insoles to the counter.  When I left the store, a woman and her teenage son were standing next to my car looking a bit apprehensive.  She had quite substantially side-swiped my car pulling into the parking space next to mine.  She waited for me probably 10-15 minutes.   I have passed the time in my life when I sweat the small stuff.  My thinking is no one was hurt and the rest is just bent metal (or cracked plastic in this case) and the car was driveable.  We exchanged information by photographing papers (don'tcha love technology) she apologized and I thanked her for waiting for me.  What a great example she set for her son.  Anyway...car heads for the shop today.  Fender-bender damage $2300.00 + car rental.  That was the bad news/good news start to my year.  Of course, I'm not happy for the inconvenience of the incident, but I had my faith in my fellow drivers somewhat restored.

There are still GOOD people out there.

You are correct Judd...those cameras definitely contribute to decent behavior.

Wow Winter....good thing you've got Rita!

The only hitch I've run into so far is the price for rental is quite high.  Of course, this is NY.  I asked for a four wheel drive vehicle, but I would have to at least temporarily contribute funds to  that cause, so mid-size it is.  I'm gonna stick with what the insurance will cover.

WONDERFUL OUTCOME. IT IS GOOD TO HEAR THAT THERE ARE STILL GOOD PEOPLE AROUND.

I have mellowed over the years.  I might have expressed displeasure at the situation in my youth, but now I so rarely get angry that it is almost a foreign emotion and I do like myself better for it.  You are absolutely correct, Julio, calm and civil is much better!

I am glad she waited for you and took responsibility in front of her son. That lesson will help him immeasurably in his adulthood in more ways than just fender benders. The way you addressed the situation will also go a long way in his future dealings from the victim's perspective. Calm and civil will get you further along in life than confrontational and tense.

Thanks for sharing, good read.

Salfordian2...Normally I would tend to agree with you.   However, two major insurerers are involved and both have been responsive.

faith in my fellow drivers somewhat restored.perhaps , how about insurance companies, they are first in line on premium paying day but not in the queue when it coms to paying out a claim.

I loved your posting... and your attitude. Your attitude certainly added to the education of the lady's son. I can only imagine his thought process if you had been nasty, demanding, demeaning, and with threats of a lawsuit. What would be the point of doing "the right thing" if the result would be so unpleasant?
