Getting older and Losing Friends
Posted On 03/02/2013 23:53:12 by Margaretmonteleone

I certainly do not mean to bring anyone down but I have to get this out or I will cry all night.

This past year (actually almost two years) has been, well...less than good.

My life changed drastically, but probably for the better; no, definitely for the better, but that is not why I am here tonight.

I graduated high school in 1966.  In this past year, I have lost so many of my classmates that it is staggering.

Just two days ago, I received a message from the son of a girl (see?  I still think of her as a girl) from school telling me that his Mother had heart failure and her brain was severely damaged.  They kept her on life support until such time the family could all get together and be there to let her go.  She left this world last night.

At our last reunion in Oct of 2011, several of us girls went out to eat after the reunion, then on to a lodge that had Kareoke (sp) and we had such a good time.  Four of us all stayed at the same hotel.  These were women I was not at all close to in high school but connected at this visit.

Tonight I was playing an online game where you ask for help with the game from your friends.  I clicked and saw that Barb was there.  I have several Scrabble games and Words with Friends games with her too.  I won't delete them, I will just leave them.  I feel so bad for her and her family.  Just last week she posted a recipe from a cook book from high school. I made the dish and let her know how good it turned out.  Now, she is gone.

I can only say, let your friends know how much you appreciate them NOW.  They could be gone tomorrow.  I hope Barb knew how highly I thought of her.

Thanks for letting me vent.  Getting older sucks.  Death sucks.  It happens and we all have to deal with it.

I hope my wording hasn't offended anyone.  I haven't meant to....

Thank you all for the recent "Featured Member"  I haven't been around in this past year but I am going to try to do better.

My best to you all,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I don't think of myself as old,(only numbers) and I graduated High School in 1945. . .married 1947.  You are what you think and if it will help to think you're young with lots of vitality.

Keep smiling!

It is hard seeing those we love die so young.  It reminds us of our own mortality issues.  I'm so sorry you lost your friend, but deep in your heart you KNOW that she knew how much you thought of her.  The words are nice to hear, but in our heart, we already know how people feel about it, don't we?!

Why don't you try writing down on paper how you feel.  It's surprising how much this can help.

Take care of yourself and enjoy your life!
